Hi friends! Today I’m sharing ten fantastic thrifty makeovers that each cost me less than $10! I dug through my archives to find a few that some of you may never have seen before so this is a good walk down memory lane for me. Often times, I share a post and it’s rarely seen ever again!
Here are ten reasons why thrifting (including thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, etc.) is a smart way to stretch your decorating budget!
First up is this little table I found at a yard sale for $7:
And after a little paint magic:
I found this table at my favorite thrift store for $9.98:
I kept the original hardware and used paint I already had, so I didn’t need to spend any more:
Look familiar? I just finished one very similarly!
Next up is this shelf that cost me all of $5:
A few adjustments to that funky shelf, new bead board backing, new knobs, and some paint, and this turned out to be a real beauty:
The knobs were $1.49 and the bead board was a scrap piece, so the total for this pretty cottage shelf was just under $10.
I recently redid this next one, but I love how simple, yet pretty it turned out.
I started with this thrift store frame and bulletin board I picked up for $7:
They became this pretty bulletin board:
Next up is this headboard I picked up at the Thrift Store for $3.99:
Headboard turned Cottage Inn Bed and Breakfast Sign
It got a new life as a Cottage Inn sign!
This next piece was a $10 yard sale find:
A little grey and white paint goes a long way to bring this bench up to date:
This ugly duckling of a chair was a $5 yard sale find:
But it had a secret drawer that made it a must have:
Sewing Chair with a {Top Secret} Drawer
Next up is this hotel-esque picture I found at a yard sale for $5:
Picture Update Using French Graphics
It got a whole new attitude!
How about a sweet little rocker? I picked this up at the thrift store for $4:
Some spray paint and a new padded seat and it looks like a whole new chair:
That is one of my favorite makeovers!
Finally, little stool was a $5 yard sale find:
My original idea for this makeover failed miserably, but sometimes that’s when great ideas happen:
Mini Drop Cloth Rosette Stool Makeover
There you have it! Ten pretty terrific makeovers all under $10! Having unique, beautiful pieces in your décor doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Sometimes you just have to let go of the fear of messing something up, of thinking that it won’t turn out right, and just go for it! If you paid very little for something, you have very little to lose!
This round-up of fun and cheap makeovers was my contribution to this month’s Get Your DIY On theme:
If you are new around here, Get Your DIY On started as a 16 week Fall challenge where I and four awesome bloggers challenged ourselves to create a project that fit a particular theme every week for 16 weeks. It was a blast and so we decided to keep it as a monthly challenge. We share our projects and then follow up with a link party the following on Sunday at 7:00pm EST (first Sunday of every month) where other bloggers can join in and share what they created to fit the theme for the month. There are always a ton of creative ideas shared that you can visit to get inspired!
Here’s what my lovely co-hosts came up with for this month’s thrifted theme:

I’m just blown away by your thrift store and yard sale finds and would love to come across similar goodies in my own area. You’ve done some awesome transformations here, and the chair (with the hidden drawer) especially, is absolutely adorable. It would also make the cutest teacher chair! Thanks for sharing your creative ideas-love them!

Thank you, Trinity! Paint is like magic in a can for sure! And yes that chair would make a perfect chair for a teacher! XO
