Hi there, sweet Friends!! One of the things I always look for at thrift stores is headboards. They can be repurposed and Upcycled in so many fun ways! They are almost like a blank canvas.
Today I’m sharing ten of my own Upcycled headboard projects. Maybe I’ll have you looking for a great deal on a headboard too!
Click on each “After” photo or the link below it to take you to that post.
Let’s start with my first headboard project ever, this $5 yard sale find:
I found this for $5 at a yard sale. They had another one too and I kicked myself after for not grabbing that one as well, but honestly my car was at max capacity that day anyway.
And here it is after:
What to do with that Old Headboard
The next headboard I redid was this gorgeous pineapple bed I scored for $15 at Lucketts:
It was scratched from corner to corner, but it was getting paint anyway…
How to Build a Headboard Bench
This spindle headboard is from a set I got for $15 at the thrift store:
It got a sweet graphic and became coat storage:
How to Turn a Headboard into a Coat Rack
I found this headboard for $60 on a local Facebook yard sale site:
It was a king size and I could just kick myself for not redoing it for my own room. This would have been gorgeous reupholstered and tufted!
It did get new upholstery though, and a fresh paint job, and sold almost immediately:
This next headboard was a steal at $4. It was one of a ton just like it at the thrift store. Clearly a nearby hotel was getting an update:
I decided to repeat the “Cottage Inn” theme I used before since that one sold quickly at my last Christmas Craft Market:
Headboard Turned Cottage Inn Bed and Breakfast Sign
Next up is this bed I found for $30 at the thrift store:
It was in really rough shape, but I loved the first bench I did that was similar to this, so this became a bench as well:
Mason Jar Blue Headboard Bench
This headboard was a $5 score from the thrift store. I prefer ones that have solid pieces across as opposed to ones with spindles…more possibilities:
This also became an organizer of sorts:
Earlier this year I found this pretty one for $10 at the thrift store:
I loved the lines on this one. I decided to pull the “Cottage Inn” card on this one too:
Repurposed French Provincial Headboard
That last one was from this year’s March Madness, 31 Thrifty Makeovers in 31 Days series, and so is this next one.
I found this headboard for $10 at a yard sale:
This got a farmhouse makeover:
Completing this Headboard Upcycle round up is this recent headboard project I shared that started as this $10 thrift store find:
And became this pretty and functional chalkboard:
And there you have it, 10 upcycled headboards!
I have at least six more that I can think of that are still in need of makeovers. Somehow that still doesn’t stop me from looking for them when I’m thrifting. Wow I might have a problem, y’all. No worries…I will redo all the headboards…eventually. 🙂
If you liked this post, you might like this one too. It has a bunch of my older repurposed projects!
I’ll be back on Tuesday sharing what I did with this buffet. You won’t believe what I paid for it!
UPDATE: Hey y’all…no need to wait! See it HERE now!
Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Addie!! Glad you enjoyed the pic! I’ve cut a ton of those beautiful blooms off, but I just love to enjoy them inside! XOXO

I like all but the beds made into benches. Having the full bed, I would be temped just to paint it pretty
Christy says
Thanks, Jane! Yes a full bed can still be a pretty feature piece! 🙂

They are all great!
What do you put on the back to hang them. They’re so heavy. Thanks.
Christy says
Thanks, Jan! I attached d-ring hanging hardware to either side on the back…like this: http://m.homedepot.com/p/OOK-2-Hole-D-Rings-Value-Box-10-Pack-59980/202258033http://m.homedepot.com/p/OOK-2-Hole-D-Rings-Value-Box-10-Pack-59980/202258033 🙂

How much fun to see all the headboards again. Although I adore them all, I think the benches are the best! I wish I had the patience to take on a project like that. Instead, I’ll enjoy yours!
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! The benches are my favorite too! XOXO
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
Great fun seeing all your amazing headboard transformations in one place, Christy! Ooooh, can’t wait to see what you did with that buffet.

Christy says
Thanks, Becky! It’s one of my favorite projects too…sad to say good bye to that one! XO

Christy you are very talented. I would love to have seen you redo the Pineapple headboard with the original beautiful Chinese influenced material (pineapple, foral and vases) on the facebook $60 headboard. I think that would have been lovely.
Best regards,
Delia
Christy says
Thanks, Delia! Unfortunately I did the pineapple bed long before the upholstered one, but I did love that fabric, so I still have it! 🙂
