Welcome to the Twelve Days of Christmas Holiday Tour! Today is day one of a themed tour where each participant selected a Twelve Days of Christmas theme to decorate around. Sounds fun, right? My theme was Two Turtle Doves, so I think I had it pretty easy! Not sure about Eight Maids a Milking, but I know my friends can pull it off.
Here is my take on Two Turtle Doves with a new Christmas Wreath:
Those are turtle doves umkay? (Wink) A wreath was the first thing that came to mind when I was deciding how to interpret my theme. I think the birds look perfectly at home nestled in the center:
Making this was so simple! I started with several items that I could possibly use, but I only ended up using half of what I purchased:
The ornaments came from HL, the birds were a Michaels find, and I found the wreath at JoAnn Fabrics.
I also found the nest below at Michaels:
I started by making the bow out of printed burlap ribbon I already had, but found at Michaels, and secured it to the wreath with floral wire.
Honestly I love the simplicity of this alone, but continued on to suit the birds theme.
I added pieces of an old grapevine to add texture and a bit of a woodsy feel. Then I started to add my ornaments, securing everything with hot glue.
I continued to add more ornaments to either side until I was happy:
Then I added the nest and birds, trimming the tail feathers so they wouldn’t stick out too far at the back:
That’s it…probably the most simple Christmas wreath ever!
It rests perfectly against this old $2 estate sale window that I added metal grate to:
I continued the theme on my mantel with the addition of these pretty glittery birdcages I found at Michaels:
My poor little elves from last year are trapped in them for now…just think of them as little elf dancers. 🙂
You might also notice my glass candle holders…they are left over from my Pottery Barn Knockoff Halloween Mantel, and are actually thrift store dessert dishes glued together top to bottom!
I decided to let them stay a while longer. You can also see the sweet music sheet birds my Secret Santa, Angie from Postcards from the Ridge, made for me:
They are the perfect addition to my mantel this year! You can see how she made them here.
My Sweater Stockings are also right at home hanging from the fireplace!
I ended up adding a few dark red bows to the mantel garland. I had to add a tiny bit of color…
And that’s my Twelve Days of Christmas “Two Turtle Doves” themed Wreath and mantel. Told you I had it pretty easy!
My friends will be sharing their themed décor all week. I’ve included their links below, so you can see how everyone interpreted their theme! I’ll be very interested in seeing how “Eight Maids a Milking” plays out. 🙂

Ha ha! A wreath was the first thing I thought of for the Two Turtle Doves theme…but I do love making wreaths. 🙂
Carole says
Christy, I have only been following you since summertime, however, I have truly enjoyed your style and creativity. I loved your bird wreath so much I made one for myself; not exactly like yours, no bulbs and I added an ice looking wreath on top of the green one. I love it. And your stockings are gorgeous; maybe I will try those next year. Thanks for all your wonderful posts with so many great ideas.
Christy K. James says
Your sweet comment made my day, Carole! Thank you! I’m thrilled to hear you were inspired to create a similar wreath. That’s the fun of making your own wreath, you can customize it any way you choose! XOXO
