Thrifty Sweater Upcycle and more {Swap it Like it’s Hot!}

Hi Friends! Have I got a fun post for you today! It's time once again for Swap it Like It's Hot hosted by the very fun Charlotte of Ciburbanity!  This challenge is where we go to the thrift store and find a bunch of crap, then send it to another blogger to make over. In turn we also received a box of crap, only my crap was good. Real good, ya'll. But first, let's back it up a bit. Here is what I received from my sweet friend, Shanna at Restoration Redoux last time we played this swap … [Read more...]

From Tea Towels to Halloween Pillows

Turn Halloween inspired tea towels into fun accent pillows!

Hi Friends! I'm back with a much simpler sewing project today! I'm sharing what I did with these fun Halloween tea towels I found at Homegoods last year.  I originally shared this project on another blog as a contributor then, but never got a chance to share it with you! We love Halloween at our house. Every year we each get to pick something new to add to our Halloween display. You can see our Spooky Outdoor Halloween Tour from last year here. We put a LOT into our outdoor display, but … [Read more...]

Sectional Slip Cover Reveal

Sectional Slip Cover Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer

Hi sweet Friends! Today I 'm sharing how my attempt at a sectional slip cover turned out. We bought this sectional when my husband and I combined households to replace his bachelor black sofa and my girly patterned sofa. Mine was much better than his (ahem, of course), but I didn't want to force my more feminine style on him. This sectional was neutral ground...very neutral, but I tired of the brown very quickly. With two boys, it has saved a lot of headaches though since it is the basically … [Read more...]

Mail & Key Holder Update

Hello lovely Friends! We are a bit drenched in our area this weekend...perfect weather for working indoors on a few small thrifty makeovers, wouldn't you agree? Today I'm sharing one I found a  couple of weeks ago. I knew it was still perfectly functional, just a little outdated: A quick paint job (DIY chalk paint), and it's fresh and new again! I love you, paint. So much better...unless of course you are a huge mallard fan, then I'm truly sorry I ruined this. I was … [Read more...]

Petite French Chair (& How to Fix a Broken Seat)

Bonjour mes amis! Ready for Themed Furniture Thursday? It's about time for a makeover anyway, right? I've been spending so much time lately on my Fall décor! Can you  guess what this month's theme is? If you guessed French, you would be right! I have painted many French graphics on pieces over the years, but for this challenge, I chose a chair and I chose not to paint graphics. Here is the chair I chose: I found it a couple of weekends ago when all furniture was 20% off at one of my … [Read more...]

Neutral Fall Mantel

I'm loving a neutral Fall pallette again this year. My mantel /Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer

The first day of Fall is in two days...come on, Fall...I'm ready! I've got my mantel all decked out to welcome you! I am excited to be a part of a fun Fall tour with some of my favorite blogging friends this week, and I'm participating today with my mantel! Come on in... I decided to use last year's Fall wreath on my mantel this year instead of on my front door: I love this neutral color combination for Fall.   Remember my mini pumpkin garland I had on my … [Read more...]

DIY Reclaimed Wood Crate

Wood crate made from discarded fencing and an old chair spindle. See how easy it is to make here! Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer

Hi lovely people! It's time for my Tool Girl Crew and I to break out the power tools and build something! This month's challenge is to make something out of wood for Fall. My first thought was a sign, but then I decided I needed something for entry way table to add a little something there for Fall. Here is what I started with: A 1X6 and a cheap fence picket, both from my curbside fence picket score, and a spindle I salvaged from this weird half chair I found at a thrift store forever … [Read more...]

Bookcase Makeover & Styling {A Décor Challenge}

Welcome to our newest decorating challenge, Styling Bookcases. This theme really is a challenge for me for a couple of reasons. One, I do not own a bookcase. (Unless you count the one in my five-year old's room.) And two, how can I possibly guide anyone on how to style them properly if I don't own any myself? How then am I going to participate in this fun décor challenge? No I didn't steal the bookcase one from my son's room, I found one at one of my favorite thrift stores and gave it a … [Read more...]
