Hi friends and welcome to day #7 of my 31 Thrifty Makeovers March Madness series! We’ve made it a whole week woohoo!
Today’s makeover is a quick one. I am sharing how I repurposed this cigar box I picked up at a yard sale a couple of Summers ago:
I ended up paying one whole dollar for it, and figured eventually I’d do something with it.
Well eventually finally came, and I turned it into…
A key holder!
I painted it white with leftover chalk paint, then this pretty blue. I gave it a little sanding and waxed it to seal, then added pretty paper to the back using Mod Podge.
See how easy that is to do here.
I used clear adhesive hooks from Command to hold the keys.
I’m not getting paid for saying that, just happy this step was so simple.
Right at our fingertips as we head out the door, but still hidden.
If you’ve missed any 0f my thrifty makeovers this week, you can catch up here…

Do you know how much I’m enjoying your March Madness series?? Between it and the Swap Til You Drop that you were a part of, I’m wanting to hit as many yard sales that I can this summer.
My husband made a key holder out of an ammunition case that is super neat. I should say that he’s making it, it’s almost complete. I’ll have to share it when he finally finishes it.

Aww I am so glad to hear you are enjoying this series, Paula! I think I’m enjoying the challenge even more. And I cannot wait for yard sale season either! I know your key holder will be fabulous! 🙂

Thanks, Tania! It did sit in my garage for a year or so before I found something to do with it, but eventually it got its turn for a makeover. 🙂

I seriously need to do something like this for Phil to hold his crap. I have a little depression glass bowl on the counter, but it overfloweth and looks like…well…crap! This is the perfect solution! I’m so glad I have really smart friends like you. 🙂

How is this attached to the wall? Did you screw it in from the inside, glue it? I love the idea for the command hooks.
Christy K. James says
Hi Amanda! I added two small saw tooth hangers to the back. 🙂
