Well hello! Do you follow me on Facebook? {You really should.} I share all kinds of little fun things on there that don’t make it here, like this little kid’s table I found at a local online yard sale FB page a little while back.
I had been searching and searching for something sturdy to replace a cheaply made table I had purchased for my son a couple of years ago, and this looked perfect! It was $50, which is more than I wanted to spend but it was solid. It had also lasted through the original owner’s four kids, so I figured it could handle Brennan. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I used.
Since this table will be staying in our living room, I wanted to give it a makeover that would fit in the space, but that still reflected a fun kid’s table. Here’s the result:
I know my favorite way to describe many of my makeovers is “Fun”, but come on, this really is FUN! I used a mix of a few Annie Sloan Colors to get this pretty aqua blue…
I love the result!
To get the starfish detail, I found an image of a pencil starfish online and made it the size I wanted, and printed it out. Then I cut it out very carefully and traced it onto a piece of blank vinyl. I cut that out just as carefully to create a stencil:
Then I stenciled away! I used to call myself stencil-impaired, but I think I’m getting the hang of this!
Cute, right? Who doesn’t like starfish? I just love them on this table.
To give the chairs a mind of their own, but still keep them in the family, I chose stripes. FrogTape is my favorite for this sort of thing!
Be sure to remove the tape while the paint is still wet. I removed mine right after the second coat.
Here is the table top before. I already knew I was going to paint it, but this made it easier!
I painted this set in Old white first, so that a little of the white would show through when I sanded.
I waxed it with clear wax and have been guarding it like crazy so it can cure before Brennan gets a hold of it and tries to stack every toy he owns on top of it!
I really tried to get a cute picture of him sitting at his table…looking natural. Nope. This is his “just act natural” pose…
Love my little blurry man. 🙂
I was stumped for a while as to what I wanted to do since my options were wide open, but in the end I stuck to what I love. I really enjoyed redoing this set. I hope you enjoyed this FUN makeover too!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Great job as always, Christy. The key to a great stencil job is a very, very dry brush! Your stencils on this table look terrific!
