I just love your blog. I don’t know how you find the time to do all you do!! I’m going to tackle the outdoor cushions later this Fall. Thanks so much!!!
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Suzanne! I hope the cushion tutorial is helpful, it’s pretty easy to follow. Honestly, I don’t know how I get so much done either, it sure would be nice to hire an assistant. Do you think my husband would go for that ha ha?! Thanks so much for following along and taking the time to leave such a sweet comment! 🙂

It’s great to see what can be done to revive and give a new life to old pieces of furniture, decoration items, etc. What terrific ideas and everything looks sooo nice! Thanks for sharing and allowing others to follow along with the tutorials and also to enjoy the “before and after” pics – a real pleasure for the eyes and imagination. You’ve got some talent! Keep it up. Kathy from Geneva, Switzerland
Christy K. James says
Wow, thank you so much, Kathy! What a wonderful compliment. I’ll keeping sharing as long as there’s someone out there to enjoy it! Hope you come back to visit soon 🙂

Christy,
It is time I told you how much I enjoy your blog! I check in often. I will be taking your advice on the stripes, and follow your way of doing the corners soon on my patio cushions. I like all your projects. I want to do a fairy garden, I have two sons 7 and 8 years old. I am brainstorming now about a more masculine vibe for mine. It may have the charm of yours with some army men stuck in the midst. 😉 Thanks so much for sharing your talent.
Michelle

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me such a sweet comment, Michelle! I’m glad you have found some projects here that you like! Our fairy garden is looking a bit sad at the moment since it’s the dead of winter lol. My eleven year old son got a big kick out of it even though it was a but girly! The army men will surely help toughen it up 🙂 I hope you continue to come back and visit often! XO

Hi Christy – your blog is my go-to for awesome ideas … I love your style. So many great pieces and inspiration. I scored some free fence panels recently and attempting signs … struggling with lettering smearing after dry. I’ve been using carbon paper to transfer the image onto the wood which works great for me and using Sharpie paint pens to fill in letters. Can you think why the Sharpie would be smearing. Very light chalk type paint underneath. Just can’t figure it out and getting frustrated.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl!! I haven’t tried Sharpies for the lettering myself, so I checked with a blogger friend who has and she uses oil-based sharpies. Also be sure to use a fine grit sandpaper like 220 or 320 grit and use a very light hand. That helps when I use paint. Hope this helps! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Neet! I am moving very slowly with adding my personal touches, but it will be fun to see it all come together. Yes, I am still in Va…just moved about 10 minutes up the road. So glad you had a chance to visit my booth! Take care! XOXO

Hi Christy,
I just LOVE your creations!! ????❤️❤️❤️
I’m trying my hand @ similar creations (just for myself)… the keyword here is “trying”. ???? Lol!!
I’m in the process of re-decorating my Living and Family Rooms.
Would you please be so kind as to share the color of paint you used on your walls and trim in your Living Room?
Thank you in advance and I look forward to your future e-mails!
All the best!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Annette!! The color I used on my living room walls is Campfire Ash by Behr in eggshell. It is the perfect grey-beige! For the trim I used Behr’s Ultra Pure White in satin. Best of luck to you on your own spaces! 🙂

Hi Christy!
I sent you an email wondering what the glass jar with the metal handle on your white washed sofa table is called and where you got it. Did you get my email??? I hope you did.
Thanks for all of your inspiration!!!

Hi Christy!
I just bought out the entire box of red poinsettias at walmart 🙂 I have 2 hutches in my house that I would like to decorate for the holidays. Can you give me some guidance as to what type of swag/fake greenery that you would suggest?
I love your dining room christmas decorations!!!!
Christy says
Yay!!! I love those poinsettias! I bought my new garlands at Michaels last year on Black Friday. They were on sale plus there was a coupon for an additional amount off on sale prices! These ones looked pretty realistic with a little bit of frost and some pinecones mixed in. Hopefully they will have them again this year! XOXO

I don’t ever comment on blogs– but your sister’s kitchen Reimagined is so spectacular. I wish my sister could do that for me– or I could do a kitchen redo like that even for myself! The new kitchen is a “sister love gift” and it’s wonderful!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Rachel! I think I responded to your email earlier…thank you so much for taking a minute to comment!! XOXO
Dana says
Hi Christy! I just purchased from your Etsy shop some Dixie Bell paint. My question to you however, is how to decide what furniture to paint and the color. I have an older bedroom suit (headboard, footboard and dresser with mirror) which I LOVE the shape but the color isn’t doing much for me. It is currently a cherry color I think. The walls are gray and I’m using white bedding with blue and pink accents (not pastel though). I’m struggling with what color I would paint the furniture and which pieces should I paint. Thank you for any advice you have!
Christy says
Hi Dana! I appreciate your business! For your bedroom suite, I would stick with something neutral so that you can change your bedding and accessories and the furniture will still work. I think either of the whites will work nicely with the gray walls..Fluff or Cotton. Fluff has better coverage so you can probably get away with one less coat. I would paint all of the pieces that are wood in the set with the same color. Then if you wanted to bring in an accent color, I would do that with lamps, draperies, and maybe a chair in a corner. I don’t know if you’ve seen our bedroom that I tackled in the Fall, but I used Fluff in there: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/painted-bedroom-furniture-and-master-bedroom-reveal/ I hope this helps and good luck! XOXO

Hi Christy! I just discovered your site yesterday evening and have been bingeing ever since. I am embarking on a new chapter of my life, and it involves a lot of mismatched gifted furniture and not a lot of money. Your made over pieces and tutorials are an inspiration. My question is actually a bit off topic…what is the paint brand and colour on the walls in your main living space? Thanks so much. I love your aesthetic!
Christy says
HI Myrna! Thank you and welcome…I’m so glad you found me! My wall color is Campfire Ash by Behr and we have it in most of our home. I still love it three years later! XOXO

i could not figure out how to leave a reply on your sectional destruction post but i had to figure out how to leave something somewhere!
THANK YOU! i have had the idea to do this since bringing home a brand new FREE ashley furniture sectional (that is actually the exact one i wanted just in another also tolerable color but couldn’t afford at $1600) & was so excited to set up only to find out its configuration is wrong for my living room! ive been heartbroken but i’m actually very skilled in both construction & automotive mechanics thanks to 7 brothers i just wasn’t sure if this were possible. i’m going to give it a go thanks to your blog. ive wanted to start my own but nerves get me!
thanks for the motivation & confidence!
Christy says
Oh awesome!! You should be able to make it work! Luckily, I didn’t have springs in the seat, but if you do, you could probably just use upholstery web to support the seat instead. Take a ton of pictures as you dismantle it, and that will help! Wishing you all the luck!! XOXO
Michele says
I love your posts and have become addicted to thrifting and repurposing!! Your work is just so inspiring! I have a question…. I’ve been using Dixie Belle paints, which I love. However if I tape to make stripes , it often peels some paint. Should I seal before using the tape?
Thanks so much!
Michele
Christy says
Thank you so much, Michele!! I appreciate that! I only use the yellow FrogTape for delicate surfaces on my projects. If you aren’t already using that, try it. You should not have to seal the paint first. I hope this helps! XOXO
Michele says
Hi,
I got this cool wooden box that had a red mallard type duck on the front. I couldn’t sand it off and I used boss from Dixie belle and bullseye. I thought I got it covered. I painted it grey- two coats- and stenciled it. About 3 weeks later the duck is back!!! Any ideas to cover it?
Thanks,
Michele
Christy says
Hi Michele! After applying the BOSS, did you wait at least overnight to paint over it? Adequate dry time is key to its success! 🙂
mary ann says
a while back I saw a small sewing cabinet, similar to the one I received from my mother – I keep looking to see if you worked on it yet, because I love your transformations and need ideas to do the same (probably not as nice as yours – but would appreciate any ideas)
Christy says
Hi Mary Ann! I am hoping to share that makeover next week…stay tuned! XOXO
Michele says
Good morning and Happy Easter.
I have a question about booth rentals and commissions. I live just outside of northern Virginia and a booth has come available. I’m just getting into furniture and have a pretty big inventory of thrifted items I’ve made over. The booth rental is 300 for a 10×6 or 350 for a 10 x8 with a 12% commission. Does this seem accurate? It seems high to me. It’s a busy little mall but I worry I’d be working for the people who run it!!
Thanks for any advice!!
Michele
Christy says
Hi Michele! I pay $300 (I believe it’s $2 a square foot) plus 10% commission and 5% for transactions using a credit card. It sounds like my space may be larger, but the building is also pretty old. That figure isn’t too far from accurate. I say go for it, and best of luck to you! XOXO
