Hi awesome friends!! I’m back today with my Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday girls, my favorite! I have a good makeover for you today.
I found this dresser at the Salvation Army a few Saturdays ago when all of their furniture was 50% off:
I ended up still paying $45 for it, but it was in excellent condition, just a bit dated.
I decided to give it a more feminine feel:
I used a 50/50 mix of French Linen (Annie Sloan) and Pure White for the stripes.
It has personality now, but it’s still neutral, which I love.
I’ve included affiliate links so you can see some of the products I used.
To make the stripes, used 1-1/2″ Frogtape for delicate surfaces.
I started by adding a strip of tape down the center. Then I added a strip to either side, and removed the piece in the center.
I used the piece I removed as a guide for the rest of my stripes…
Then I painted them in with two coats, and removed the tape while it was still wet, as soon as I finished the second coat. After the paint was dry, I lightly sanded the drawers with 220 grit sandpaper. The whole piece was sealed with Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
To save money, I reused the original six pulls for the top…
They add a nice contrast on top.
The other handles were just not working for me, so I replaced them with these much prettier ones from Hobby Lobby:
I had to fill in the old holes first, using Elmer’s Wood Filler.
The drawers got a pretty fabric liner as well…
I also purchased that at Hobby Lobby.
I prefer fabric to line the drawers in larger pieces if I can find a good deal on it, since it can more easily be removed down the road. I cut it with my rotary cutter and cutting mat, then used matte Mod Podge like a glue to hold it in place. I just brushed it all over the bottom of the drawer with an inexpensive chip brush before applying the fabric.
I hope you enjoyed this makeover!
Don’t go anywhere just yet, my treasure maker friends are also sharing a thrifty trash-to-treasure makeover today!

This. Is. Gorgeous! This may be my absolute favorite that you have done. Following your blog has really inspired me to try the chalk paint myself. My daughter is due in November and we just painted the baby furniture I had saved for her to use. We just did black with clear wax, so nothing fancy at all by any means, but I really love how it turned out and mostly how incredibly easy and fast it was! I think I might be hooked. lol Maybe I will try this beautiful color combination on something soon. Beautiful job, Christy!
Christy says
Thank you, Lori!! It really is easy… and you can create one-of-a-kind pieces. I bet the nursery will be gorgeous!! XOXO
Julie Timmerman says
You are amazing! When I grow up I want to have talent like you, the only problem, I’m already 58 yrs old!! LOL! I’m thankful that you are willing to share with us, so we can learn new things.
How long does it take you from start to finish for a project like this? I have a booth here in Charlotte,NC.
It’s amazing how much time it takes to keep things fresh and new in the booth. I love that you share pics of your space and your pricing, I found that so helpful.
Any more secrets you can share are welcome.
Hugs,
Julie
Christy says
Oh my Gosh you are so sweet!! Thank you, Julie! This dresser took me a couple of days to finish, and that was working several hours on it both days. It really is a lot of work to keep our booths stocked, isn’t it?? And to find the motivation lol! XOXO
Teresa says
Gorgeous, please tell us how you did the stripes. I’ve always been afraid to try stripes.

Love the gray and white stripes. I like the black knobs on the top drawer so well I think I’d paint the larger pulls black also. Great job on updating this old forlorn dresser!
Christy says
Thanks, Barbara! I was surprised how well the darker knobs looked against the white. I bet the others would have been pretty dark as well!
