It’s officially Spook-tober around here! We have been decorating outdoors all weekend long, and my body sure doesn’t feel as youthful as it once did after two long days of bending and climbing. That’s right, you can see what I mean by checking out last year’s Outdoor Halloween Tour. It’s a big deal around here y’all. I can’t wait to take pictures so I can share! (BAM! See our 2014 outdoor tour here now!)
Today I’ve got a not-so-spooky project to share…a super simple way to make your very own personalized Halloween hand towels!
Aren’t these fun? I made these using Transfer Artist Paper:
This is supposed to work on many surfaces, but so far I’ve had the best luck on fabric. It works amazingly well on fabric! (This is NOT a sponsored post by the way, I just love this product!)
I just print out the image I want to transfer in the reverse. In this case, I used a photo I found online and added my own words using the “A Lolita Scorned” font:
You could personalize it with your family name or anything you want.
I found a hand towel at TJ Maxx and already had a cotton napkin and black ribbon:
I ironed the graphic onto the napkin.
Then I cut it about two inches above and below the image, and ironed the top and bottom edges over. I kept the original side seams in tact.
Next I sewed the black ribbon to the napkin using a zigzag stitch:
Then I centered the panel on the hand towel and sewed in place, close to the bottom edge:
I folded the sides over and sewed them in place also.
Tada.
Cute, no? The only thing spooky about this is the word “spooky” printed on it.
It’s perfect in my downstairs guest bathroom that we already added a few spooky touches to…
Here are a couple of pretty projects that I’ve used this paper on:
Pretty Stool for Her from a Men’s Valet Stand
My next project is not Halloween related, but I’ll be sharing my outdoor tour very soon! My new Halloween Wreath is feeling right at home!
Are you decorating for Halloween?

I love these. I have never used iron-on transfers, but have always wanted to and a sewing machine scares me, but I need to learn to use one!!! Some day……. 😉
Christy K. James says
OOH I see a sewing machine in your future…sewing opens up a whole new area of DIY projects! This transfer paper is great, although a bit pricey. It comes with a lot of sheets though 🙂

Your bathroom looks about ready for ghost-guests to visit! 😉 Joking aside, the Halloween hand towels look totally cute and rather easy (even for me, haha) to make. My only worry would be how durable these transfers are, especially when you put them to use and dry your hands with them often, so I’d probably just use them in a strictly decorative manner.
Christy K. James says
The package says they are totally washable, so they may feel a bit stiff, but I think they’d be ok. That said, I took it down after I took my pictures because I’m afraid my boys will use it ha ha!

Christy, This reminds me of when my grandmother used to decorate her bathrooms. I loved it as a child. I’ve never been one to do bathrooms, I guess because Ive never found anything I like. I’ve been inspired. I especially love the curtain!
Christy K. James says
I’m so glad you like it, Heather! I don’t normally do much in my bathroom either, but since I did something different with my mantel this year, I had a few extra props. 🙂

You-ou-ou….I wanna be like you-ou-ou….I wanna walk like you…talk like you….Oooo ooo ooo….You see it’s true….someone like meeeee…can learn to be….like someone like you….
I’m officially a dork.
