Do you make Christmas ornaments as gifts? Is it something you do every year for your special friends and family? My older sister and her daughters make a new ornament each year for us. They started when her girls were young. Now they are 17 and 22, and we still get them, and I truly look forward to seeing what they create each year. My amazing friend, Christa, receives several handmade ornaments from her MIL that she makes to giveaway, and I look forward to being the lucky recipient of one those every year as well. It’s such a wonderful tradition.
Today I’m sharing an ornament I created, and at the end of this post feel free to check out 37 more handmade ornaments at the links below!
I recently made these Anthropologie knock-off sweater stockings, and I had a bunch of scraps left over. Of course I couldn’t throw them away, and I’m glad I didn’t.
I used them to make my ornament…sweater mittens!
No knitting required here because they were made from sweaters!
Here’s how:
I used fine fishing line and these beads I found at Hobby Lobby for $1.49 to join the mittens together.
The beads add a touch of sparkle to the textured mittens.
I cut these out of the sweater sleeves and used the finished edges for the wrist part.
I included these in the box with the gift I made for my Secret Santa. But I just had to make a set for myself too.
I didn’t have any finished edges left from my sweater scraps, so I cut the wrist part a bit longer , then folded them over and sewed them to create a finished edge.
They still look just as cute:
There are a ton of fantastic handmade ornament ideas from my fellow crafty bloggers below! Maybe you’ll be inspired to start an ornament tradition of your own?
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

Dar says
I was thinking these gloves would be cute for a couple that were dating/engaged/just married! and you could put each of their initials on each mitten. And with them being joined(the mittens) well how cute, maybe even making them more personal if just married-putting their “wedding colors” onto the beads.
Christy K. James says
Very cute idea! Thanks for sharing! XO
