Remember field trips? We were always so excited leading up to them. We got to bring our lunch in a brown paper bag and eat it on the bus…such an adventure…
We’re taking a field trip today…to my Parent’s house!
Their loo, to be exact.
If you missed it on Monday, I shared this fun yard sale find makeover:
I made it for my Parent’s bathroom. My Mom has been wanting to update their master bathroom for a while now, but wasn’t sure what she wanted to do. The accent color in here was dark red, playing off the bedroom colors. The bedroom is beautiful, but the red just wasn’t working in this space. So a couple of weeks ago we put our heads together and came up with an idea.
My parent’s guest bathroom has white wainscoting, and black and white toile wall paper with yellow towels and accents. My Mom loves it so much that I knew that was more of the look she wanted.
She bought a few things and I updated a couple of things, but there was still an empty space above her tub.
This framed French graphic was the perfect addition:
I mean, hello? Is this not the perfect spot for this perfect addition?
I showed up unannounced on Sunday and surprised her. She loved it!
I could kick myself for not taking before photos of this room before we started. The walls were already this beautiful shade of yellow and my Dad installed the wainscoting last year, so I didn’t think our update would be that dramatic to share. But it is such a beautiful change!
She purchased these towels and pictures at Homegoods:
These towels were in here previously but had dark red embroidery. I added leftover toile from another project to the cover the red:
A piece of wide black ribbon added to the center of each piece of toile would be even better…hmmm…might need to add that!
A quick and easy update!
Now they match the new toile valance we found at Lowes:
We found this set of three metal pieces in the attic. They were originally brown, then ivory. I gave them a couple of coats of Rustoleum in gloss black to make them work in this space:
I love the black against the yellow!
Opposite the tub is the vanity.
This little print was already in here. We just moved it to this area. My Mom shopped the house to find this candle and the orchid on the tub.
Brennan came along to visit his Nana and Papa… I see you, cutie!
{He’s like a one-man demolition team that one.}
And that concludes today’s field trip. It was fun to get out for a change, but thank goodness I didn’t have to eat a brown-bag lunch.
This would have been a fantastic makeover to share had we been smart enough to take those darn before shots! The black accents give this space a more cohesive feel than what was in here previously, and they really have made a dramatic difference in this bathroom.
My parent’s house is really lovely. I need to share the grand tour some time.
Thanks for coming along!

Christy, that turned out beautifully! I love the graphic you made and embellishing the towels was a great idea. Overall, the colors and accessories in that room are wonderful.
I have a bathroom that desperately needs a little work like this. It’s just too dark! You’ve given me some great ideas. Are you going to share how you made the french graphic? It’s so cute.
Christy K. James says
So glad you like it, Stacey! The post just before this one shows how I made the graphic print. You can find it there: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/french-graphics-revive-a-5-yard-sale-find/ Have a great day! XO

Thanks, Sherri!! My Mom prefers a bath over a shower and I think I would too if I had that tub. 🙂

Very pretty Christy – I love the black accents with the soft yellow. Those vintage bath tub pictures are adorable and I love both sets of towels. Your Mom must be so pleased with her new Parisienne Hotelesque bathroom!

What a beautiful room! Love everything!! I’m in the middle of a remodel and would love know the paint color. I think it would be perfect in my room, too.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Sandi! This is really a beautiful shade of yellow in person too. It’s “Stable Hay” by Behr from the Home Depot. 🙂

It looks fantastic! And I absolutely love orchids. I have yet to buy one for myself…I just know I’ll kill it to death. And that would make me sad. Loved the field trip!

Thanks, Andi! I love orchids too. That one was actually fake, but it’s a good impersonation. I have one that miraculously is still alive after four years. It hasn’t bloomed in a about a year though. I saw your “stool samples” in my inbox. Can’t wait to look at them. 🙂
Trina says
Hi, I was scrolling through some of your projects and I love them all, but where did you get the print for the black frame in this bathroom project. I love the Hotel Perrin etc…. was this a stencil?
Christy K. James says
Hi Trina, You can see all the details on how I created that picture here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/french-graphics-revive-a-5-yard-sale-find/
Christy K. James says
Trina, I recently purchased a couple of stencils to try and when I pulled them out of the package yesterday to do the cradle stencil, I realized one of them is very similar to this print! It is on sale right now too (which mine was not). Here is the link: http://www.artisticstencildesigns.com/item_308/Hotel-Ad-with-Crown-Stencil-11×16.htm#.VRKe9p5FCUk

Awww maybe if I were just a little closer! I always try to stop at the antique mall there when I’m in town.
