Hi friends and welcome to Project #20 of my March Madness, 31 Thrifty Makeovers in 31 days series! Today is a fun one because I am not only sharing a thrifty makeover of my own as part of March Madness, but at the bottom, there are 24 VERY TALENTED gals sharing these fun projects too:
But first things first…yesterday I shared my Mason Jar Blue Headboard Bench and promised something pretty to go with it.
This is a table that my Mom painted a while ago and had stored in her attic:
She used to paint and sell furniture pieces like this like hotcakes back in the day! I dragged this out of her attic and put it in my booth, but unfortunately nobody appreciates the pretty lighthouse scene I guess.
I wanted to do something different with it that might appeal to more buyers, and I did not have the heart to paint over her beautiful work so…
I covered it with fabric! I’m including a few affiliate links so you can find the products I use. Read my full disclosure here.
That’s the headboard bench I shared yesterday in the background! I love them together.
I purchased this fabric at Hancock Fabrics from the bolted decorator fabric section.
I used Lesley Riley’s Transfer Artist Paper to transfer this Paris image. (Origin unknown, probably The Graphic’s Fairy)
If you’ve been following me for a while, this isn’t the first time you’ve seen this graphic or this TAP used. You can see how I used it here also as well as how it works:
Mini Drop Cloth Rosette Stool Makeover
Black graphics transfer best in my experience.
It gives this little table a whole new feel:
I didn’t want to make the top too busy since part of it will probably be covered by décor pieces.
I also sanded the edges to bring out the pretty details.
I added a piece of cotton lace to the inside edge to add a little detail:
It also hides where the fabric didn’t come completely to the edge.
If you ever wanted a break from the French feel, just change the fabric or…
cover it up!
I don’t know about you, but I am loving the new feel of this sweet little table!
And I’m glad I could change it up without destroying what my Mom created. That will be a fun surprise for someone to uncover some day!

This is beautiful Christy. I don’t think I would have had the heart to paint over something my Mum did either, I like your compromise though, it haut looks stunning!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Gilly! I just didn’t have the heart to paint over it either. 🙂

You should write the history on the bottom of the table. That would be another sweet surprise to discover. I’m not sure how to spell it, but don’t they call that provenance?
Christy K. James says
That is such a sweet idea! You would really like this post I did not too long ago where I preserved all the layers of the fabric I removed: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/dressing-table-bench-makeover/ 🙂
Marie@The Interior Frugalista says
How pretty your table is – what a great idea to cover but keep your Mom’s artwork. It’ll sell, if it hasn’t already.
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Miss Marie! I sat looking at this for a while because I didn’t want to paint over it, so this was a perfect solution. Have a great weekend! 🙂
Paula@SweetPea says
I am so glad that you didn’t cover you mom’s art work. Please tell her that she is so very talented! I love the new look you gave the piece and especially love how you edged the fabric in lace.
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Paula! I’m thinking the folks that are shopping my booth just weren’t looking for that style/theme. If only I could have snuck it into someone else’s booth with a similar style! It will be a nice surprise for someone to uncover one day. 🙂

I felt so bad that it had sat there so long. I think people coming into my booth just weren’t on the lookout for a piece like that. Glad I was able to save it beneath the fabric!
