Hello sweet Friends! I have the cutest little table and chair set to share with y’all today! But first do you mind if I share my heart a bit? We had to say goodbye to our sweet kitty, Holly on Friday. You may have seen her in photos from time to time. Most recently I was photographing this table I shared last Thursday:
I didn’t include this photo in that post, but took a few pics of her after she made herself comfy in the shot. I’m so glad now that I did. I shot this a couple of weeks ago, but she took a turn for the worse last weekend and very rapidly declined. She was my sidekick and lap blanket for 20 1/2 years and will be deeply missed. RIP my baby girl.
Thank you for letting me share that, Friends. I try to keep things light and fun around here, but I felt like I owed her a little tribute.
Ok now onto what you came for…
I found a couple of child’s chairs a few months back for a whopping $5 for the pair at one of the Goodwill stores near me. Although they looked a little rough, I have come across lone tables before and knew I’d eventually find a table for them. Then what should I spy on the same thrifting day that I found this hutch not too long ago? The exact table that went with the chairs!
How lucky was that? It was in excellent condition.
Let’s just say the chairs had been very well-loved:
And after a bit of TLC:
So sweet!
I ended up using a razor blade to scrape all of the tape, stickers, and random paint smears off of the chairs. Then I sanded all three pieces lightly all over. I spray primed them with Rustoleum Spray Primer, then spray painted the chairs and table legs in Rustoleum Universal Satin White Spray Paint. (Spray paint is definitely the way to go on these little chairs!)
I never got a picture, but you can barely see them in my spray shelter behind the console table I shared on Thursday…
I added some color to this set by painting the seats and table top in Behr’s Taffy Twist, made into DIY chalk paint.
I adore this color! It is the same color I used for this mini vanity set I shared not too long ago.
The table top got this pretty Paris-Inspired Stencil:
I found it on Etsy here, but it looks like the owner is either no longer selling stencils or is taking a break as of just last week. I used Loctite spray adhesive on the back of the stencil to hold it in place.
I love how this added a touch of sophistication to this set:
I added a fleur de lis from this stencil to each seat to tie in with the table:
After stenciling, I sanded the surface of each lightly with 220 grit sandpaper to knock down any rough areas.
We don’t have any doll babies in our house for staging, but teddy seems to fit right in…
And of course Brennan had to give it a try too…
He gave it a thumbs up…er…sideways. 🙂
I sealed the seats and the table top with Polycrylic in satin using a brush made just for sealers. I like this one by Wooster. The brush makes all the difference! I gave them three coats, sanding very lightly in between each coat with 320 grit sandpaper.
You can see here the satin polycrylic has a nice subtle sheen:
I chose not to use wax to seal this because I wanted a durable finish fast since I planned to put this in my booth. Wax takes about three weeks to fully cure. (BTW I did use wax on my son’s play table and it has held up well. I just didn’t let him use it until it had time to fully cure.)
I hope you enjoyed this sweet makeover. I am so thrilled I was able to unite the chairs to the table.
I’ll be back on Thursday with my new Furniture Fixer Uppers group! I’ll be sharing what I did with this thrift store find:
And my friends will be sharing furniture makeovers too!
Now go give your fur babies a little extra lovin for me. 🙂
UPDATE: Check out how I updated this china cabinet HERE! (Although it may no longer be holding china!)
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

So sorry about Holly! 🙁 20 years though, wow… she definitely made it to a good age. It’s always hard to lose a member of the family, but at least you have lots of memories of her.
You did a fabulous job on this set. It’s so cheery–I just love pink and white and this clean look. 🙂 Hmm, three coats of poly with sanding between… that definitely sounds durable! I’ll have to try that myself, my desk takes a lot of abuse.
Christy says
Thank you, Zovesta…she did have a good long happy life, and I do have many memories to cherish. Glad you like the set…I couldn’t resist a girly makeover! XO

You and Holly had a long time together, and it’s always sad when a pet dies. Enjoy your memories of that furry lap warmer.

Dear Christy;
So very sorry to hear about your kitty. Last year we lost our beloved Bailey to lymphoma and it has left a hole in my heart. So I totally understand the pain of loss of a loved pet. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of him, and I am sure you will feel the same. Also want to tell you that I love getting your emails and look forward to reading them. Lois Keffer says
Dear Christy, I’m so sorry you lost your long-time friend. We had to put down our 17-year-old fluff ball of a terrier mix in November. We also have a larger dog, but he’s not so cuddly having been rescued from a terrible situation. We decided to wait for two months to see how we would do with just one pet. In January we visited a shelter and came home with a pair of brother “teenage” kittens. I’m so glad we did. Please take care. Sending love and hugs.
Christy says
Thank you, Lois…so sorry to hear about your pup. I’m glad you opted for kitties this time…they can be sweet! Some day I’ll get another kitty too. I like the idea of finding one that isn’t a kitten. 🙂
Cyndi J says
I’m so sorry about Holly. It’s a major loss. I had to put Hope down just over two years ago and cried every day for four months. So I understand completely. Of course the table and chairs are adorable (goes without saying). And Brennan is a cutie pie!

Thank you, Cyndi…yes sounds like you know exactly how I feel. They really become such a special part of your life. Glad you enjoyed the makeover and thank you…he’s a keeper! 🙂
