Mmmmm…French Provincial. I just love the lines of these pretty pieces. Hey there, Friends. I have a simple makeover for y’all today.
I picked up this pretty end table for $20 about six months ago and have been waiting for inspiration to strike. I finally decided I just needed to get it out of the garage. I’ve said before that sometimes you just need to start, even if you don’t know where you’re headed. Isn’t that true for SO many things in life??
My Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday girls and I had an Instagram giveaway a few months back for a Homeright Paint sprayer, and the generous people at Homeright were awesome enough to give each of us hosts one as well. I decided this table was the prefect opportunity to try it out. (This is NOT a sponsored post, just sharing my experience with the sprayer!)
Here is how this pretty end table started out:
I already had purchased a Homeright Spray Shelter a few months back, mostly for spray painting on hot or windy days. I heart that thang!
You may remember I used it when I spray painted my outdoor glider bench :
It has had a lot of use since then! You can see how big it is too. I painted several things when I painted this end table:
While I had the sprayer at the ready, I grabbed every miscellaneous board I could find that might make a good sign to put in my booth. This was a super easy way to knock those out!
Here is the table after the first coat with the sprayer:
The coverage is pretty good, and so much faster than hand-painting. I used a fresh batch of DIY chalk paint here, and it did great.
And here it is all done:
So how did I like the sprayer?
Well… I kinda missed the brush strokes. I think they are what give a piece an authentic hand-painted finish. That being said, it would be awesome for things like chairs that are a huge pain to paint by hand. And it was really awesome for painting the inside…
That too would have been a big pain to paint by hand.
The sprayer gives it a bit of a rough feeling finish, but since chalk paint requires a quick sanding after painting, it smoothed right out.
I waxed with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax like normal.
In the end, a simple makeover was all this table needed. This is a mix of Cottage White by Behr and Pure White DIY Chalk Paint.
I dragged these accent chairs in here and I think they make for a pretty set up. I made these covers out of drop cloth a couple of years ago. They were pretty simple to do. I shared a tutorial for them HERE.
I usually spray paint the hardware, but decided to leave these as is…
Love those pretty details.
I really love this piece for the storage it adds. Too bad I don’t have the space for it. Off to my booth it goes!
I’m not ditching my paintbrushes just yet, but it is nice to know there’s an easier option for those hard-to-paint pieces!
I’ll be back later this week sharing a fun round-up of ten of my own headboard upcycles.
See ya then!

Thanks, Rose! That’s a set of doors in our dining room…I do love them too! XOXO
Paula@SweetPea says
Looks great, Christy. I like the brush strokes that hand painting gives but the sprayer sure is nice to quickly complete a project.
Christy says
Thanks, Paula! Yes, the paint sprayer was a huge time saver!! 🙂

What a pretty piece! Love it with the slipper chairs. Perfect addition!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Anne!! XO
Sandra@lookingforpotential says
It looks so pretty with that white paint, great job!
I have a question when you use the 2 colors”cottage white and pure white” do you mix equal parts of paint to mix up your recipe for chalk paint?
Christy says
Thanks, Sandra! Yep, 50/50. 🙂
Tammy says
Great job! I have been wanting one of these spray tents forever! I think I’m going to have to just go for it. Thanks for sharing.
Christy says
Thanks, Tammy! I love that thing! We purchased a new car recently and I do most of my spraying in the driveway. This protects my car from overspray as well! 🙂
Cate says
I think the cabinet looks awesome, and I’m not a fan of covering wood with paint. Kudos!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Cate! XO
Marcie Lovett says
Beautiful, Christy! I’m sure it’s just as lovely in person, with that rubbed-off, chippy finish. I wonder if you can drag a brush over the wet paint, like you can after using a roller, to get the look of the brush strokes.
I dream about getting a sprayer sometimes. It certainly would have been handy for your kitchen cabinet redo!
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! That’s an idea…someone else suggested doing the final coat with a brush which I like too! And yes, this would have saved a ton of time in my kitchen! XO
Carole says
It came out beautiful. I didn’t realize you could spray paint with chalk paint – good to know. I suppose you could spray a light coat and then use your brush for another layer, especially if you have several things to paint. It could save time.
Christy says
Thanks, Carole! I love the idea of doing the final coat with a brush. You are so smart! I made a fresh batch of chalk paint so it would be nice and thin and it worked great! XO

Love the table! Like you said, it provides great storage, too. I’m new to the blog and hadn’t seen the spray shelter before. How clever is that!? I’m going to check it out along with the sprayer. A little bummed I don’t live in the same area as you….I’d love to check out your booth!
Enjoy your day!

Thanks, Tracy! I love that shelter and the sprayer saved a ton of time. Wish you lived closer too! Thanks for following along! XO

THOSE HYDRANGEAS !!!!!!! That beautiful blue color!!!!! Those are truly AMAZING!!!
Could you show us a pic of the plant outside?
God Bless~

Christy says
Thanks, Addie!! I have five hydrangea bushes! I took a few pictures of the three on the side of our house a couple of weeks ago and I’ll share in my next post. They’re huge! 🙂
Selene says
Hi! I’m thrilled to have found your site and have learned so, so much from you–thank you! I’m anxious to get started but have some paint color questions. In your chalk paint recipe it says Behr’s cottage white isn’t available so now you use the red and white can of ultra pure white. So I thought most of your pieces were in that color. I later read another tutorial saying you mixed cottage white with ultra pure white. Is that because ultra pure white is more gray-white vs a creamy white? I want a warm white but not creamy/yellowish white (does that make sense)? In your kitchen cabinets tutorial, you used cottage white latex and I thought it looked great. So I’m confused about the color I should use to do some small pieces like a stool and small book shelf. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!
Christy says
Hi Selene and thank you! The Cottage White is still available, just the base that it is mixed with has changed, at least the can looks different. I love Cottage White and it does have a creamy tint to it, but without looking yellow. Lately I have mixed it 50/50 with the pure white for a lighter shade, but it still has a creamy tint to it. The pure white is pretty on its own too. It just depends if you want a pure white or more ivory. Good luck! 🙂

Love this little guy, Christy! I got a Homeright sprayer for Mother’s Day, but haven’t used it yet. I’m worried about overspray. I may just have to invest in one of those tents! Are you going to post the signs you’ve been making?
Christy says
Thanks, Jennie! That spray tent is awesome, and it’s huge! I tend to make the same signs over and over for my shop since they continue to sell, but I did take a before shot of the scrap boards I used, so it might be fun to see the after side-by-side. I still have two more to finish, so we’ll see. ????
Debrashoppeno5 says
Each week I tell myself I am going to set up my Homeright Spray Booth and start spraying. I never make it, you have given me inspiration.
Christy says
Yes Debra! Bust that thing out! Have all your pieces you want to tackle lined up and ready and spray away. I love how fast the sprayer paints things!
Michelle Roberts says
I just love French Provincial furniture and this end table is no exception.
Christy says
Oh I do too, Michelle…thank you! 🙂
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
Your French Provincial table looks great! I don’t know what I’d do without my HomeRight paint sprayer. I definitely NEED one of those tents. Have a great weekend.
Christy says
Thanks, Marie! I love how fast the sprayer is!! Yes, you need a tent. I use it for regular spray painting as well. 🙂
Joanne Taggart says
Lovely, Christy! And I agree, the hardware is fine as is. It goes well with the piece. What a nice job the sprayer did. And after seeing you painted the inside also, I can see the sprayer would be a huge help. I’ve painted inside pieces before and am aware of how much of a pain it is. Thank you so much for sharing and showing all the potential some pieces have that is not evident at first! Awesome!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Joanne! The sprayer sure did make it so much easier to paint the inside! XOXO
Becky says
I love this table! The wood version looks so hopeless and dated, and then your perfect paint job… and all that is completely changed. Beautiful!
Christy says
Thanks, Becky!! This had such pretty lines, I just couldn’t not bring it home! 🙂
Teresa says
I have a couple of questions about using the sprayer and shelter. Is the shelter easy to take in and out and do you take drawers out and paint them separately? If you leave the drawers in when you paint does the paint make the drawers stick? Thanks!
Christy says
Hi Teresa! The shelter takes less than 10 minutes to set up and is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. It is very large and that is why understandably it takes a minute to figure out which end is up, etc. I usually only paint the drawer fronts when I use a brush, but I have painted the insides and sides of drawers with the sprayer. I took the drawers out completely to spray, and had no issues with sticking. Hope this answers your questions!
