I have another easy picture frame project to share today.
Do you have that one thing you look for when you’re junkin”, yard salin’, or thriftin’? For me, it’s frames. I surely do not need them. It’s just that there are so many things you can do with a simple picture frame. So I always keep my eyes open.
I gave this one a new life as a pretty tray:
There are so many uses for a cute lil’ tray, right? Here, I’m offering you sugar and starfish. What?? (Just go with it and think, “That tray sure is versatile.”)
Are you dying to see it before? Here it is…
I showed this to my mom and she said, “Oh that will be sweet in Brennan’s room.” Um, no. Although it is very sweet, it will be going no such place! It was marked down to $1.58. It doesn’t get much better than clearance at the thrift store!
I painted the frame with pure white ASCP and distressed it a bit:
I reinserted the glass after a good cleaning.
Then I wrapped the sweet picture in pretty fabric and secured it the most professional way I know how:
I covered that expert tape job with brown wrapping paper using hot glue. (You know, it never occurred to me to use hot glue to secure the fabric!)
Lastly, I added these screen door handles:
And Voila!
Old Picture to pretty tray!
I wouldn’t try this with a frame any bigger than what I’ve used here since picture frame glass can be fragile.
The fabric was leftover from my mom’s mother’s day present (which I’ll share soon) and the handles were $2.49 each. So with the frame, this project cost me less than $7 🙂
Thanks for letting me share, I’m so glad you stopped by!

Christy, this is SO pretty and what a great idea to use an old picture!!! hmm…now I need to rethink some of those pictures I had earmarked for a yard sale! Thanks for the inspiration and am pinning. Have the best weekend.

I have done something similar and used pretty scrapebook paper…no duck taping.
Love your blog. Thanks for sharing!
Christy K. James says
That’s a great idea! I actually started this project b/c I had a little bit of fabric left and was wondering what I could do with it. I’ll have to keep the paper in mind in the future:)

So nice:) I love the fabric- so elegant:)

Thanks, Andi! Anyone reading this response, needs to check this gal out…she is hilarious!!!

Hehehe…thanks! You show up as a no-reply blogger so I couldn’t reply by e-mail. Is that a Google+ thing? I don’t understand Google+ at all…perhaps you could post a tutorial for dummies like me. 😛 I’m stalking you as well…I thought I’d also left a comment on one of your landscaping posts, but now I can’t find it. We’re building a new home very soon and I need all the landscaping help I can get!!!
Thanks again!!

Andi says
Okay…that was on your Facebook page that I talked about the landscaping. I’m such a scatterbrain… 😛

What a super idea! Absolutely above clever, and it turned out sooooo cute! You could always replace the glass with lucite, but that would add $. Love the black and white fabric too!
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Jenna! Lucite is a great idea! I need to keep it in mind if this glass should ever break 🙂

Hi Christy. I have to stop giggling so I can write this. When I saw this old frame with the Teddy Bear, I thought How Cute. Just like your mother and one of your other comments I read, they thought their mother would say the same thing. I think I painted a little picture just like that once upon a time. OMG, I AM your Mothers!! But, on the other hand, I really love the tray you made. So pretty and useful. Your “mother” is proud. I’m visiting from French Country Cottage..Happy Thursday..Judy

I’m visiting from Inspiration Link Party #34. Love your frame, the fabric so perfect with frame, will go anywhere. Great re-use. Love projects like that.
Uh.. using the duct tape to wrap the picture, I’m also a quick one to grab the duct tape. I even used duct tape to wrap a sofa cushion with fabric to try out the look. When you live out in country a few miles from a store you tend to make do with what you have on short notice. Saves money and time.
I’m always looking for great frames. Don’t know what I’ll do with them at the time but something always presents itself eventually. Just good to be on lookout for them. I passed on couple nice bamboo ones at thrift store and was kicking myself for couple weeks. Why didn’t I buy them? Boohoo. lol I’m a new subscriber.
Christy K. James says
Thanks Jane Ellen!! I am famous for “making do” with what I have haha! So glad you are following along:)
