I’m sharing another well-deserved makeover today!
It was part of this haul:
That day included an estate sale, a few yard sales and one thrift store stop! The large picture on the left was a $5 yard sale find and became a huge chalkboard. The claw-foot console table (see the after here) was a $10 yard sale find and received a frenchy makeover. Both pieces sold in my booth a while back.
This is the 80’s country charmer that’s getting a makeover today:
Ah…80’s décor. We’ll just say it was “homey” and leave it at that shall we?
This was a simple update:
The body was painted white and the top was painted Sparrow by Behr, the closest to Annie Sloan’s Paris Grey according to this great source. Both paints were made into chalk paint using this recipe.
I decided to give this one a simple grain sack stripe in white, using frog tape to create the stripes.
I left the interior as is:
But I did add a pretty lining to the bottom using scrapbook paper and Mod Podge (MP bottom, then apply paper, then MP over…thin coats!)
I love all the extra storage this piece has. It would be perfect in an entry hall for backpacks and what not. It would also be perfect to replace two chairs on one side of a dining room table. Or how about at the foot of a bed to store blankets?
This piece was finished off with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax.
Better, right?
Thanks for stopping by, beautiful friends! Have a terrific weekend!

Everything you do is done with such ferver and meticulousness. What an A to Z project. Lovely! By the way, where did you get the faux plant atop the bench? I’m equally in love with it!!

Thanks so much, Robin! The boxwood came from HomeGoods a while back. 🙂

Betsy @ Happily Ever After Etc. says
Such a pretty makeover! Thanks for the tip on Sparrow by Behr being a close match to Annie Sloan’s Paris Grey chalk paint! I was looking for a good alternative… I love Annie Sloan but no one in my town carries it… it’s a drag having to drive an hour just to pick some up!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Betsy! I used to have to mail order it and then a shop about an hour away started carrying it, and then a friend alerted me to a store that is less than 10 minutes to my home that now stocks it. So maybe if you keep checking, someone closer to you will become a stockiest too! But this is way cheaper anyway and a fantastic match. 🙂
Amanda @ Dwelling in Happiness says
Ahhh, I’ve been loving the grain sack stripes lately! Love that gray you used. This bench is such a great storage spot, too! 🙂
