ColleenB. ~ Texas says
Happy Birthday.
Consider special people
Who love you, and who care,
And others who have enriched your life
Just by being there.
Think about the memories
Passing years can never mar,
Experiences great and small
That have made you who you are.
Another year is a happy gift,
So cut your cake, and say,
“Instead of counting birthdays,
I count blessings every day!”
A thing to always remember. The more candles you have, the Bigger your cake gets to be. :}
Enjoy your day
Christy K. James says
Aww that was awesome, Colleen! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 🙂
Jody Tirone says
I think we all had the Dorothy haircut! I have one picture of me with that haircut and my favorite faux leather boots that zipped up in the back. I thought I was all that! Thanks for the fun facts and Happy Birthday!
Christy K. James says
I think you’re right. Those were an unfortunate few years for little girl’s haircuts. I bet you rocked those faux leather boots. 🙂
Carolyn Price says
Happy Birthday, Christy!!
Thanks for the fun facts. How cute!! I enjoyed them very much. : )
(Somewhere in there you should have added: Master Landscaper!)
I can go you one better on the “gender confusion.” I graduated from high school the year you were born. (Yes … I am old.) Shortly after graduation, I was shopping for some shoes I’d had my eyes on at a “women’s” shoe store. I was very thin at the time, had a short, Twiggy-type haircut … the 60’s were just barely in the rear-view mirror then … and God hadn’t endowed me with much above the waist.
Walking into the women’s shoe store with my boyfriend/now hubby, the salesman asked, “What can I do for you fellas today?” : /
Better to be confused with a boy at age 10 than 18!
Have a blessed birthday!!
Christy K. James says
Oh no! That’s funny! The poor guy probably felt awful if he realized you were a girl. Thanks for the birthday wishes and the sweet Landscaper part. You are one of those that cheers me on from the sidelines and I am very grateful. 🙂
Sue Farmer says
Have a great birthday!!
Christy K. James says

Hey, Christy.
I’ve enjoyed stopping by to see what you’re up to for a while — and now I feel I know you a little better. By the way — still have a ‘version’ of the Dorothy Hamill. Just cut from shoulder length a month ago! 🙂
Christy K. James says
I’m so glad you took a moment to say hi, Charlene! We could probably pull of that cut much better today, and I’m sure yours looks great! 🙂
Eneida says
Happy Birthday. Have a wonderful day. I just subscribed to your website. I love all the great things you do at home. I consider my self a do-it yourself too. Come to find out, you are about 20 minutes away from my daughter in Virginia. Small world.. Thanks for sharing the inspiration.
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Eneida! I’m thrilled to have you following along, and it is a small world indeed. 😉
Marie@The Interior Frugalista says
Happy Birthday Christy! Your talents have never ceased to amaze me but learning here that you’re also an RN and mother to two boys I am baffled and more than impressed at how you do it all and run this blog so successfully. Lucky you to have been taught by Connie Hindmarsh! I watched that show every stink’n day waiting for that dang magic mirror to see me. Hope you have a great birthday and enjoy lots of cake 🙂
Christy K. James says
Aww you are so sweet, Marie! Mrs. Hindmarsh actually brought the mirror to school one day. We were fascinated lol. 🙂
Kendra @ www.joyinourhome.com says

My oldest child (who lives in Chesapeake!) was born in 1971. Apparently that was a good year for producing talented, helpful, good looking, Jesus loving folks! Happy Birthday!!
Christy K. James says
Hey small world! Chesapeake is only 20 minutes or so away from me. Thanks for the birthday wishes! XO
Chrisitne says
Happy birthday! I am a year older then you. I have 2 kids; 17 and 9 yrs old. I am intrigued by the fact that you don’t own a microwave. We had a German exchange student and his parents did not have a microwave either. He said his mom felt the food didn’t taste as good and for fear of getting cancer. Anyway, enjoy your day!
Christy K. James says
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Christine! When I married my husband, I sold my house. The microwave was attached to the wall above the stove. My husband never owned one and we just never bought one. Honestly. I don’t really miss it at all. Crazy, I know 😉
Stephanie @ One Mile Home Style says
Happy Birthday!!
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Stephanie! XO

Jennie says
Happy Birthday!!! Where did you get that cute shirt? I want one!! I love, love, love Virginia Beach!! I graduated from Granby High School in 1971!! I know, I’m old, don’t laugh!! I met my husband in Norfolk and when he got out of the Navy, we moved to Texas. Even though Virginia is my home state (born in Winchester), I have not lived there since 1973. Too much snow and cold weather!! I love reading your posts!!! Have a Happy, Happy, Happy Day!!! Hugs!!
Christy K. James says
Thanks for the birthday wishes, Jennie! The shirt is just a pic I found online…I want one too though! You’re right, we have more cold weather in recent years than ever. Hope you get to come back and visit every once in a while (when it’s not cold of course!). Thanks for taking a minute to say hello!! XO
Paula@SweetPea says
Happy Birthday! I loved reading your fun facts and especially love that you ran a surf shop. I’ll bet your boys love that.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Paula! Funny story…the surf shop I ran was called 17th Street Surf Shop and when my oldest was around 9, I replaced the bearings in his skateboard wheels, and then I overheard him tell his buddy, ‘Yeah my mom changed my bearings, she used to work at 7-11.” It was so funny!
Christa Peachy says
I don’t know why, but I am sitting here teary-eyed as I read this…perhaps it’s because I’m so proud of you…and proud to call you my friend! You are an awesome multi-talented woman and I love you so much.
Christy K. James says
Awww…you are SO special to me and I love you too!!!!!! Thanks for being so supportive and such an amazing friend!! XO
Kerryanne @ Shabby Art Boutique says
I love posts liek this Christy, where you get to find out things that don’t just pop up in ordinary posts. Now I’m intrigued… where did you live in Australia? I spent 45 years in Melbourne and now live in Port Macquarie on the NSW mid north coast. At least if we met, you’d understand my accent and Aussie slang 😉
Happy birthday xx
Christy K. James says
I’m so glad you enjoyed this post, Kerryanne. We lived on the NW Cape in Exmouth. The closest city at the time was Perth. My dad was born and raised in Sydney, then joined the US Navy when he turned 18. He went back for the Navy. We moved there when I was four and I completely picked up the accent, but lost it when we moved back to the states, as kids can be cruel and I remember being teased for it. I wish I still had it now lol. My dad still does, and when people ask where he’s from he says, “The South…the deep deep South.” 🙂
Joanne Boulter says
Happy Birthday young lady! Yep, that’s what I said young lady! Your post today was really fun, getting to see your darling family. I hop you have a really fun birthday week!
((HUGS)) Jo from Anne’s Attic – design blog http://fulcolbaxia.wordpress.com
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes, Joanne! I’m glad you enjoyed the post, it was fun to write. Have a great week too! 🙂
Julie at Being Home says
Aww..I loved reading more about you! Thank you for sharing. Do you have an American accent? I ask since each parent is from another country. How cool! I love different languages. Did you learn a second one? My son started developing a British accent cause he like to watch Kipper (kids cartoon). lol We are big on language in our home – proper usage, enunciation, and vast vocabulary.
Happy Birthday, beautiful lady! 😀
Christy K. James says
I’m so glad you enjoyed that post, Julie! I had an Australian accent when I was little because we lived there, and I played side by side daily with Australian kids. I’ve lost it though, I have an American accent. My youngest was picking up a lot of British inflection too from watching Peppa Pig lol. Funny how that happens. Have a great week! XO
Andi says
Awwwww….GREAT post!!!! And happy belated! Only one more year and you’ll catch up to me! Well, that’s only if I die in the meantime…cuz otherwise I guess I’d be a year older then, too.
Okay, that turned weirdly morbid.
Happy birthday!
Love,
andi
Christy K. James says
Even being morbid, you still make me laugh, Andi! Thanks for the birthday wishes! XO XO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Christy!! I SOO loved reading more about you!! Fun! And Happy Birthday again! 😉
That was so much fun to read I may have to steal the idea myself for mine! lol
Hope you had a great birthday!!
xoxo
Nancy
Christy K. James says
Aww I’m glad you enjoyed it! I decided at about 9:00 at night…how about writing a birthday post? lol. Your readers will NOT believe you when you tell them how old you are. Not that you’re so old lol, but because you look so amazing! XO
Krista @thehappyhousie says
My Mom totally made me have short hair growing up much to my chagrin…I wanted long beautiful barbie doll locks. That is awesome that you ran a surf shop:) And you sure can dance girl! I have seen it!! Happy (be-lated) birthday friend:)
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Krista! My little sister had hair down to her backside and I had boy hair. There is no fairness in that!
Christy H. says
Happy belated 43rd b’day – you’re exactly 8 days younger than me! This is so random/funny (well, to me anyway). I discovered your site today and it’s FANTASTIC! We have a lot of the same taste. More interesting (again, to me anyway) is that my name is also Christy – spelled the same way and not short for anything. 🙂 People have spelled my name wrong my entire life.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know I admire your talent and all the great DIY projects you’ve created.
All the best,
~Christy H.
Christy K. James says
Hi Christy H.! I’ve had my name spelled so many ways! I have a friend named Christy also, spelled like ours and when I text, I use the microphone feature on my iPhone…when I say the name “Christy”, it spells it differently every time! Its so funny. Welcome to my blog, thrilled to have you here! 🙂
Liz says

Happy Birthday Christie!
Thank you for sharing that with us and for sharing 43 things about you! You sound like a wonderful person, someone who I would enjoy knowing if I lived in your town. You are blessed to have your family live close-by, your brothers & sisters and parents. I hope you had a very special birthday.

Christy K. James says
Thank you, Sandi! I’m so glad you enjoyed finding out a little bit more about me. Yes, I am very blessed to have my family close! XOXO
Layne says
Love this and your blog!!!! What was the name of the surf shop you ran? My college roommate’s family owned a surf shop company in Virgina Beach and it was so fun to visit there!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Layne!! I ran 17th Street Surf Shop. 🙂
