Hi my sweet friends! I have been knee-deep in floor demolition at my house this weekend, but I am thrilled to say that I actually started laying my hardwood floors today…can I get a WOO HOO?! I’ve been sharing some of my progress on Instagram, so you can hop on over and see what I’m talking about if you like!
I painted a couple of pieces for my booth last week before demo began so today I’m sharing one of them with you. This is one of three tables I picked up at the Salvation Army at the same time I picked this one that I shared during March Madness.
It was just a plain little table before:
The top had a scratch running right down the center, its a little hard to see in the above photo.
It was only $20 and I knew a fun pattern on the top would camouflage it perfectly!
I love the harlequin pattern! I have done it on several pieces and I never tire of it.
This is painted in my go-to ivory, Cottage White by Behr. I used it to make DIY chalk paint. It is the perfect backdrop for French Linen which I used for the pattern. I’ll be putting together a full guide on how I paint my pieces soon! Update: See it here now!
What do you think of my roses? Thrift store! The Silver pitcher was an estate find from a while ago, but I found this bunch of roses stuffed into a gallon sized Ziploc bag for $1.25 and thought they were just so pretty once I set them free!
I replaced the drawer pull with one from another table after I gave it a couple of coats of Rustoleum Heirloom White Spray paint and roughed it up a bit:
I also lined the drawer with a little of this pretty contact paper I had left:
This table makeover was actually quite simple to do…
- I painted the base color in my Cottage White by Behr DIY chalk paint.
- Then I created the perfect Harlequin pattern with this how-to.
- I taped off one set of diamonds using FrogTape.
- Painted two coats of French Linen chalk paint
- Removed the tape immediately
- After about an hour, I taped the rest of the diamonds. (Yes I reused the FrogTape!)
- Painted two coats on those diamonds
- Removed the tape immediately
- Voila
- Sanded a bit, sealed with Annie Sloan clear soft wax
Pretty easy, and although this is a busy pattern, the muted colors make it totally work!
Now it’s a one-of-a-kind. 🙂
Gotta go get back to those floors. Have a great day!!

Woo hoo For your floors! Your table looks so sweet! I LOVE the pattern. It’s my all time favorite pattern. I still haven’t tried it yet but I found the perfect Ethan Allen coffee table at Goodwill this weekend for $9.99 so that’s what I have planned for that:) thanks for the always awesome and easy to understand tutorials.Take care!

Thanks, Heather! I love this pattern too!! I think this was an Ethan Allen table as well, but you got a much better deal. 🙂

Ha ha I see these tables all the time, but a little paint can totally give it a whole new feel. So glad you like it, Paige! 🙂

Dang, I’m on the hunt for a table just like that for my living room. The Harlequin pattern makes this piece even sweeter. Wish you lived nearby because I’d be buying that from you for sure!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Marie! I’m considering going back to my booth and bringing it back. 🙂

I love the table! Good thing I never spot these cuz you’ve made this all too tempting.
You have my respect for taking on a tile removal job. Yikes! I’ve put tile in… and always thought “This has to get UGLY when it comes to removal!” You are the picture of dedication! Hope the new floors go in fast and easy. : )
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Becky! That tile was the worst part, but I rented a tool on day 2 which made removing it so much faster. My new floors are 90% in now yay!

You’re making me want to throw on my shoes and dash over to the Good Will right now!

Ha ha yes, go forth and thrift! 🙂
