We’re starting week #2 of my March Madness series and welcome! I can’t believe it’s been a whole week already!
How many dated headboards have you passed by without a second thought? I’ve redone several headboards because they are perfect for repurposing!
Here is the $5 beauty my son and I picked up a couple of weeks ago at the thrift store:
I’m sure it was only $5 because it had no tag and the cashier was put on the spot. It’s getting harder and harder to find a great deal at thrift stores these days!
This little cutie got a simple, but functional makeover:
I took advantage of the snow for this one, but imagine it hanging in a mudroom to collect coats as you enter, or how about in a bathroom to hang towels? It would also be super sweet in little girls room to hang dress up clothes or purses.
I cut off the legs using my table saw, then gave it two coats of my DIY chalky paint in white. I sanded it a bit and sealed it with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax.
The hardware came from Hobby Lobby and most of them were originally brown. I spray painted them with Rustoleum’s Blossom White, and sanded them a bit to age them.
My stone pathway looks so pretty against the snow!
I kinda wished I had had other things ready to be photographed before this snow disappeared!
Here are some pretty cool headboards I repurposed previously that you might also enjoy.

Love what you had done to your headboard. You give us the best inspiration
You’re right; it would make for a good item to hang in one’s mud room.
Wondering, something that large and heavy, how to hang it?
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Colleen! This is actually super light for a headboard. I’m not sure what kind of wood it is. I added hangers to the back of each post, so you could just hang it with anchors and screws. 🙂

This is so cute! And functional 🙂 I totally agree about finding bargains anymore at thrift stores…I was shopping them way before it was the cool thing to do! I did recently find a headboard sitting beside the thrift store and asked an employee about it. He said it was trash and I could have it! Yes I am that thrifty….little shame in my game;) lol

Thrift stores are getting wise to us lol. I used to buy clothes and purses at thrift stores when I was in High School. We always found great stuff. Been stalking them ever since. Great deal on the headboard…you can’t beat free! 🙂

Kirsty I love the stuff that you make. Every morning when I wake up (after having sleepless nights with my 6 months old baby) I kind of look forward to check my email to see what you have made.
I want to try this stuff but usually struggle with power tools as to which one to use. I would love your advise on which ones are appropriate for cutting peices of wood as there are so many out there.

That is so nice to hear! Thank you, Sheeba! As for wood-cutting tools, it really depends on what you want to cut. I usually use a table saw for most things. To cut trim pieces or angles pieces, I use a miter saw. I’ve also been known to use a hand-held jig saw. I’m sure I’m a ton of help in guiding you here, but it really depends on what you want to cut. 🙂
