Hello, lovely Friends! I bet you didn’t think you would hear from me today since I stopped in yesterday to share my Halloween décor. I know Halloween isn’t for everyone, but at least while we still have kiddos at home, we get a big kick out of it, so thanks for letting me share!
Today I’ve got a great little makeover for y’all. I found this magazine rack at one of my favorite thrift stores for a whole $3:
I swear there must have been a magazine rack collector that just gave up their prized collection that day at the DAV because there were at least 10 magazine racks on the floor the day I spotted this one!
This is another project that got a quick update using spray paint.
Good bye brown, hello aqua goodness!
I used Krylon spray paint in aqua.
Krylon isn’t my first choice for spray paint, but they do have some beautiful colors, and this came out rather nicely.
And did you notice something different about the handle?
I loved the petite size of this magazine rack and the simple lines, but when I got it home I knew I wanted to change it up a bit to add a little more character to it.
So I grabbed this spindle that was one of a pair I purchased at an estate sale:
I cut it to fit to replace the original handle. It was just screwed in place on either end so that made it simple to replace.
I used Rustoleum’s Blossom White to paint the handle. The edges all got a light sanding as well.
It has such a light coastal feel now.
I love how durable spray paint is. It can be pricey and sometimes blotchy or streaky on larger projects, but for small ones like this magazine rack, it’s perfect.
The new spindle handle adds a bit of charm to this piece. You may remember I used the other one on this CD Holder turned Caddy that I shared not too long ago.
And how about using a magazine rack for children’s books?
My son loves books and has them scattered all over the house. This is a great way to be able to have a few of his favorites downstairs as well.
This one isn’t too big either so it can easily be carried from one room to the next.
This would also be great to gather coloring books and crayons!
If you liked this project, here’s another you may enjoy:
That’s all for today…quick and easy, just like I like my projects! 🙂
I’ll see y’all on Thursday with 10 of my favorite thrifty reclaimed wood projects:

I have seen a magazine rack used for rolled up hand towels in a bathroom. I use an old wine rack for mine. I like seeing things re-purposed, especially in a different way.

Oh great idea to use a wine rack for towels! I never thought to do that. I really enjoy seeing things repurposed in a new way as well. 🙂

Easy and lovely, great combo! When I saw the before, I wondered what you could do to it. The spindle addition is brilliant, adds just the right touch. I had to go back and ogle the CD rack again. I love that project!

Thank you, Marcie! You know I just couldn’t leave well enough alone lol. And I too love how the CD project turned out… that one surprised me! 🙂

Very nice! This looks a little sturdier then the baskets my boys keep wearing through, haha! The new handle is PERFECT.

Thanks! This was headed to my shop, but my youngest one has been carrying it all over the house lol! XO

Hi! In answer to the question regarding the Wayfair ad I have a new HP Lap top computer.
The Wayfair ad is no longer an issue. I now have a JC Penney’s ad. Thanks…
Christy says
Thank you. Generally the ads you see are tailored to what you browse for on the web, so they will continue to change. I contacted my ad network, and you should only see the first image be replaced with an ad, and it should only last a couple of seconds. Hopefully that won’t be too intrusive for you. 🙂
