Hi friends!
This is the transformation that took place in our master bathroom. Our house was built in the 1980’s and this is definitely proof of that!
This is our ahem, awesome 1980’s bathroom before:
Gold fixtures, anyone?
The vanity used to be outside the bathroom.
I know it’s ugly, right?! And why yes, that is a bidet in the foreground!
What? Doesn’t everyone have two bathtubs in their bathroom? And how about that “spa” feel? Nice!
The best thing about this picture is my cutie patootie posing in it!
Much work was needed to complete this transformation:
(My son took these pictures!)
You’re doing a great job, honey!
The After
Ahh… and here is what all our hard work was for:
This is where the second tub was. Since we have a tub in our other upstairs bathroom, we didn’t feel the need to have one in here. We brought our vanity area inside the bathroom from the hall (which turned into my husband’s closet).
These were not the beautiful mirrors I envisioned for this space. However, they open to reveal a medicine cabinet inside! That was a functional feature that we really needed.
By mounting each mirror so that it opens toward the wall, I can use them to see the back of my hair when they are both open!
My husband and I did all the work ourselves and we just love the results. Here is a bit more info:
-
The tile is from The Tile Shop. It’s travertine and was a splurge for us at 9.99 a square foot. The listello was $20 per one foot piece.
-
The granite counter was a remnant piece and was $850 installed and included our choice of sink.
-
The faucets were purchased at Lowes.
-
The mirrors were also purchased at Lowes for $169.
-
The wall paper was chosen to hide ugly wall blemishes and was ordered from Sherwin Williams. If I can locate the name I will update here.
-
The cabinets had to be custom ordered due to the odd vanity size and were purchased from a local cabinet maker my husband does business with.
-
The towel fixtures came from Home Goods/TJ Maxx.
-
The curtain was a pair of panels I purchased at HG/TJ M. I cut one panel to add to the top to extend the length and used some of the rest to cover the little chair (also from HG/TJM).
-
The light fixtures were ordered online for $60 each.
We started this renovation just before our now 2 1/2 year old was born. It took a few months to complete. Is it perfect? No, but you know what? We did it all by ourselves and couldn’t be happier with the results!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

Needless to say it’s gorgeous! Trumps our makeover 100 times over 😉 since the holidays began, with fall decorating, I decided to hold off on posting any updates on our MB makeover, so I’d have something to post about in the new year 😉

Thanks, Joann! I can’t wait to see yours! I think one of our upcoming themes is before and afters…perfect! We did this when we had a decent budget. Two years later, I’m still waiting on hardwood floors…waiting for $$! Happy New Year! 🙂
