Phew, I’ve been in a decorating frenzy the last three days! My halls are officially decked.
Today I’m sharing a fun little ornament project. We are coming up on our 14th Get Your DIY on Challenge: Ornament Tutorials. After this week, there are only two more challenges left!
When I was deciding what kind of ornament I wanted to make, I thought I could make my DIY Twig Wreath on a smaller scale and that’s just what I did.
Here is what I started with:
Don’t mind the painted mason jar lid ring, that was part of a project fail. It happens 🙂
I started by breaking my twigs into 3″ pieces. Then I hot glued them to the flat side of the ring.
I continued adding twigs all the way around.
Then I added a second layer and a few stems from a cranberry cotton easter plant from my front yard to add interest.
I spray painted my mini-wreath white. I also spray painted my star silver.
I decided to add a monogram to my mini wreath, “J” for my last name, James. To add a wintry texture to my letter, I used “Buffalo Snow Flurries” from Michaels. If you have a Christmas Village, this is the most life-like snow! To apply it to my wreath, I spray painted the letter and while it was wet, piled the “snow” on top.
Then I shook off the excess. I did the same to my mini wreath.
I hot glued all of the elements together and added a small piece of silver ribbon to the back as a hanger.
Voila! The red ribbon really pops against the white wreath.
This would also be pretty as a keepsake for each guest at your dinner table. You could even just make one for each family.

Christy, this ornament is just gorgeous and what a brilliant idea to use the Mason jar lid!! lol, I have a couple from a failed project and you just totally inspired me! Love this so much! Pinning! Have a happy Friday!

I could probably write a very entertaining post about all my project fails lol! Luckily I was able to use those lids! Have a fantastic weekend! 🙂

Love your sense of humor! and I really like the wreath – I just bought some spray snow – I think I will make these for my adult God children – Do you mind if I steal your idea?! Question for you……Is it overwhelming and difficult to come up with a craft for your link party every week? Your ideas are always great and appear to be thought out by a person who is not surrounded with little kids!!!!!! Just saying! Keep up the great work cause I enjoy seeing each new idea! Trisha

Aww you are so sweet!! Of course you can use this idea, that’s exactly why I love to share! As for coming up with a project for each theme every week, there’s a bit of panic involved to be honest, but it’s fun to push yourself to be creative too…especially when a project turns out well 🙂

Thanks, Andi! I’m losing so much hair these days, I could make a wreath out of it! On second thought, that would be kinda gross ha ha 🙂

This is just lovely Christy!! And it’s my initial 😉
Christy K. James says
Thanks, JoAnne! I considered making them for each of my Christmas guests (one for each family), but since I can only find the twigs by venturing out in the freezing cold…might have to come up with another idea 🙂 XO

I am loving this ornament. I love that you used twigs and then spray painted them white. Makes the ribbon and letter really pop! I’d love you to share at our Link It or Lump It party!

So lovely and I like that it is ornament sized, though it would make a gorgeous standard wreath, too, I think!
