Hello lovely people! Welcome to Themed Furniture Thursday! Every month I, along with several of my favorite blogging buddies, makeover a piece of furniture to fit a particular theme. Any idea what this month’s theme was by seeing the preview picture?
Red! The color red is this month’s theme. This was a really tough one for me because I don’t have anything red in my house, and it totally doesn’t suit my style…with one exception…at Christmas time!
I had the perfect piece of furniture for a Christmas makeover:
This little chair was originally painted by my Mom. She had it stored in her attic and when she pulled it out, realized that the red stain beneath had bled through in several places. She gave it to me to fix up for my booth.
And fix it up is what I did…
How cute is that?
Of course it wasn’t bad before, just too hard to cover the bleed through without messing up the design on the top. This was a perfect solution!
The chair was already painted a creamy white, so I taped off the legs and the back…
And gave it three coats of Behr’s Cherry Cobbler, which I made into chalk paint.
I found this clip art online after searching for “Merry Christmas Clip Art”:
It was perfect for the seat. I transferred the outline of the letters using the chalk method seen in this post, and painted it in with watered down chalk paint.
I sanded, then sealed the whole chair with clear soft wax.
I love how it turned out, I was planning to stick to a neutral theme for Christmas decorating this year, but I might have to change that so I can include this sweet chair!
My four-year old was so excited to see presents! He would be very disappointed to find a box of light bulbs under that brown wrap! Ha ha!
Hope you enjoyed this little Christmas Inspired makeover!

Such a cute makeover! I saw the “before” on G+ I was thinking it was a mistake, since the chair was so pretty with its nautical star, but how fun is this Christmas chair? Adorable! This would be a fun chair for the grandkids to sit up on at the counter to help Grandma make Christmas cookies.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Chloe! I thought the “before” might be taken as the finished product ha ha. I hated to paint over it!
Marie@The Interior Frugalista says

This is so so so so so so cute. Did I say “so” enough times? It makes me want to grab my pair of chairs I painted about a year ago and give them the same treatment. 😛

Thank you! I thought a Christmas chair would be fun for the “Red” theme since red isn’t really my color. Hope you guys have a very Merry Christmas! XOXO
