Hello sweet Friends!
I hope you and your loved ones are all safe from the devastating floods Harvey has caused. I’ll be keeping those affected by it in my prayers!
We had a busy weekend around here, and I am just putting the finishing touches on my first completed space in our new house.
Here’s a hint:
It’s our guest bath downstairs!
It is just about complete and I’m hoping to have it done and photographed to share soon. It will feel so nice to have one room completely finished!
Last week as we were finishing prepping the old house for the market, I took photos, and today I thought I’d share some of them. It officially went on the market on Saturday.
I had really hoped to keep it staged for selling, but we didn’t want to start off in our new house with only half of our furniture, so it is pretty much empty. I personally can imagine myself easier in a space that is empty, how about you? I know they say staged homes sell better though.
Here is the outside:
You can see from this street view how close we were to our neighbors. Living so close to the beach was worth it, but having a pool now, we really haven’t missed it.
Now I will miss watching all my plant babies come up in the Spring. You can see a full tour of our garden HERE.
My Hubby did all the stonework on this house…
My Hubby and I got married right there in that courtyard! I shared some photos from it HERE.
Our empty dining room…
So sad, huh?
My hubby had added that textured wall color to all the downstairs walls just before I moved in. (I sold my house after we got engaged since it was more market ready.) With the dining room being two stories, I never did change it, but I wasn’t in love with it at all. I just worked with it.
It was small, but one of my favorite spaces…

And the doors…
I used them as a backdrop for most of my furniture pieces…
I also was not in love with the wood trim either, but it was a compromise with the hubby. I am really happy to have all bright white trim in my new house!
I tried to brighten this space with paint where I could, like the kitchen…

The Living room…
Faux Coffered Ceiling / New Hardwood Floors {& total chaos}
It really would have been nice to keep the living room staged especially while we were selling it, just to give an idea of furniture placement.
It was such a bright and sunny space with our huge sectional that I slipcovered:
A small peek at our downstairs bath…
And upstairs…
This was Brennan’s room. I never did paint that trim like I wanted to, but it is a nice bright space.
The boys’ bath:
I really should have painted that striped wall.
I did repaint Jack’s room but I haven’t been back with my camera to take pictures.
The master…
I only got this side of the room since there was a pile of cords and stuff on the left side.
Remember this tribute to me and my hubby I did above our bed?
I don’t think I ever shared that outdoor space before. I loved being able to just step outside in the mornings to get a feel for the weather before getting dressed.
A peek at my closet I built…
I gave all the built-ins a fresh coat of paint.
I had that thing packed!
Our master bath was a total redo:
That was one of my very first posts! See the full makeover HERE.
We didn’t have a huge back yard, but we did have a nice sized deck…
Sew Easy Outdoor Cushion Covers
Brennan called this his treehouse. Wish we could have taken it with us!
I built this little granite stone patio on the side of our house out of granite landscaping stones from our old landscaping…
I also built that gate. See how HERE.
Some of the outdoor space starts to look a little sad this time of year with nothing blooming, and my hubby cut my hydrangeas way back before most of them had a chance to bloom. Then extreme heat hit and they never really recovered. This was the first year I didn’t have a ton of them.
You can see how full they get (and why Hubby took the clippers to them) in this picture from last Summer:
We’ll leave it at that pretty picture. 🙂
And that wraps up the empty house tour. Hoping we don’t sit on it for too long!
While I tried to make the most of this house, it was definitely a compromise for me. The hubby has given me full reign on the new house and I am loving every minute!

XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Wishing you many happy years of memory making in your new home, it can be a little sad walking away from a home that obviously has so many great memories????Love your blog! You are giving me strength as we work towards finding a new home for our retirement years, after raising our family in our current home for 28 years, yup, saying goodbye to our pool that provided great times????
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karen! It is bittersweet for sure, and I can’t imagine walking away from a home that you’ve lived in for 28 years, but sometimes change is necessary. We just need to embrace it the best we can! Good luck on your search! XO

Thanks for sharing. It’s one thing to see a house empty but when you see pictures of a empty room and then see the same room what it looked like with the furniture in it, it’s like you see the life that it was breathing. You can tell you put a lot of love into it the old home and I’m sure you will do the same to the new one.
Christy says
You are so right, Sheila…a room’s décor really brings it to life. Thank you, I did try to love the old house the best I could. I am really enjoying getting into the decorating in our new home now! XOXO
Donna says
What a lovely house! It’s too bad we can’t put bits and pieces together from past homes. Hope it sells soon! It’s a seller’s market here in Indiana.
Christy says
Thank you, Donna! Wouldn’t that be great if you could bring parts of your old home with you? I’d love to bring my old neighbors with me if I could! It is supposed to be a seller’s market here too, so we’ll see how it goes! XOXO
Larissa ~ Prodigal Pieces says

My husband and I are in our 70’s so we are down sizing. Moved to Texas in Dec. 7 miles from Round Top. If you love Antiquing this is the place to be Spring and Fall for the Antique Festival!
We’re in the middle of renovating and painting. I do love your style and you’ve given me many ideas.
Christy says
Thank you, Beez! I have heard that Round Top is fantastic…maybe I’ll get the chance to visit it one day! Best of luck with your renovations! XO
Julie Briones says
Thanks for sharing. I’m really excited to see what you do with the new place. The glimpse of the shower curtain made me sigh. 😉
Christy says
I enjoyed this last look as a good bye of sorts…now onto new projects! My bathroom is complete, just looking for a couple of décor items! Can’t wait to share! XOXO
Pam says
You can always leave a ‘scrapbook’ on the kitchen counter so that potential buyers could see how you arranged your furniture and to give them ideas. You have such beautiful photographs of how it looked that I can’t help but think it would be a boon to selling the house.
Christy says
That is a great idea, Pam! It would give buyers an idea of what they could do with it! Thank you! 🙂
Addie says
Good bye old house ;( she was beauty…with all your talents.
I think Pam above me has a GREAT idea. Good luck with the sell. Pray!!!!
I made a deal with your hubby…chop those hydrangeas way down soooooo
It will be easier for me to sneak over and get them!!!!
God Bless!!!
Addie
*Be sure to leave a picture of those hydrangeas….that seal the deal!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Addie! We will miss her for sure, especially the hydrangeas!! I’m thinking I really need to leave the pictures as well…anything to get it sold! 🙂
Annette says
Christy, I have loved seeing your posts. I am sitting here, in Houston, with Coastguard, Army and National Guard Helicopters flying over, and your “empty house” post was a nice relief! Can’t wait to see the touches you put on your new house :)))
Christy says
Bless your heart, Annette, thank you! I hope you and those you love are safe. We have been watching and praying for ya’ll down there! We have been through many hurricanes here on the east coast, but nothing that compares to what Houston has seen from this storm. Glad I could provide some small relief! Stay safe! XOXO
