Hello sweet Friends and welcome to day #5 of this fun thrifty series! Isn’t it fun to see what becomes of these thrift store and yard sale finds? Today I’m sharing how I turned this plain thrift store mirror into a one-of-a-kind piece.
Here is what I started with:
It was marked $8.25 but it was half off.
Yesterday I asked if you thought I kept it as a mirror. Let’s see if you guessed right….I did!
There wasn’t really anything special about this mirror as it was, but giving it a new paint job and adding a few rosettes gave it such a sweet new look:
Kind of a shabby chic look?
I’ve used these rosettes on a few other projects like HERE, HERE, and HERE. They are made from drop cloth!
I was almost tempted to keep this here, I liked it so much.
Looks so pretty with my entry table I redid in my Favorite Fabric from Hancock Fabrics.
I did this last Summer, as you can tell by the beautiful hydrangeas from my garden. I cut them for my house all Summer long. If you have a spot in your yard that is sunny only early in the morning or very late in the afternoon, but shady for the rest of the day, plant a hydrangea or two. The Endless Summer varieties are my favorite.
These white ones are called, “Blushing Bride”.
Back to the mirror…those flowers are pretty too, no?
If you’re interested in making some yourself, I put together a video tutorial last Winter. Just watch that hot glue…it’s a real pain. 😉
If you have trouble viewing or it’s buggy, see it HERE on YouTube.
(I know now not to record in portrait mode sorry about that!)
And here’s a bonus makeover!
I did one of these just like this before and it sold so quickly, I had to buy another when I saw a good deal on one:
Here it is after a few hours in front of HGTV making rosettes…
This would be so sweet in a little girl’s room don’t you think?
I just love the shabby sweet feel of these little rosettes!
I’ll be back tomorrow to share a do-over of an this wooden tote that just would not sell in my booth:
UPDATE: Kablam! See it HERE now!

I love how the mirror turned out. It does look perfect over the table. Maybe keep it for a little while?
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Debra! I loved it there, and did enjoy it for a little while! 🙂

This is so shabby chic, I’m going to use them on a frame for my bedroom. Thank you. If mine turns out as well as yours, I’ll post and link back to you.
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Tonia! I’d love that. I just checked out your work and I love it…those pieces you made with scraps are SO cute!
Tonia L. Conner says
Sorry, I couldn’t hear what type of fabric you used, and did you spray paint them to match the frame?
Christy K. James says
I used drop cloth for these and this is the original color of the drop cloth. 🙂

Ha ha! I am definitely keeping it plus I may do my coffee table and a table in the garage to match! Happy weekend! 🙂

I love these flowers that you have put on several DIY items. I don’t know how you could not keep this mirror after all the work of making so many flowers. It is such a gorgeous piece and useful too.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Carole! I actually have two oval mirrors that I bought, this one which was very heavy and another cheap one that is plastic, but very light. I planned to make the lighter one for me, just as soon as I am ready to sit and make all those rosettes again lol! XOXO
Treva says
Those are the sweetest little flowers. I am going to give a try making some. I don’t know what I will put them on but I have to have some. Did you put a finish of any kind on them.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Treva! I have also put them on a picture frame…I just love them too! I didn’t seal them with anything.
Kathy says
I would like to know what kind of paint you use on your make-overs. Will you please tell us on each one coming up?
Christy K. James says
Sure Kathy! I usually do include all of those details in each post. This mirror was Cottage White by Behr made into chalk paint. It was mostly covered so I didn’t share this time. Thanks for following along! 🙂

Very cool—my mind wandered to other possibilities with the roses…they are so interesting. Could you dip them in a soloution of primer/water/sealer—-and make them permanent…can just imagine dry brushing all that texture—-especially on the large mirror—to make it last for a long time after all that work?
Gorgeous project, Thanks, Sandi
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Sandi! These should last a long time as they are since they are made of drop cloth. I have a frame I trimmed out with them a year ago and it still looks like I just made it. So glad you like it! 🙂
Kim says
This might seem like a silly question but….. 🙂 I have a booth also, and I made some of the rosettes to put on some things. There is no air conditioning where I rent booth space and I was wondering if the rosettes will turn loose if they get too hot, since they are glued together with hot glue. I’d hate to do all that work just to have it fall apart.
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!! Hope you don’t mind if I copy a few.
Christy says
Hi Kim! Not silly at all…those rosettes should be on there good if you used hot glue. I can’t imagine the heat making them fall off. Glad you found some ideas on my blog…copy away! ????
