Deck Makeover

I know that sometimes all you see is the pretty. Well get ready for some ugly...really ugly... This is how our deck looked before I finally got out there and cleaned it up! Seriously, how does it end up like this? No...take it all in: peeling deck paint; cardboard from spray paint project (from months ago); nasty, dirty, faded cushion covers; green growth on the deck; and do you want to know what has been driving me crazy since we reclaimed our back yard? That weird deck … [Read more...]

Dressing Table Makeover

This is the story of one of my latest estate sale finds.  This particular estate sale had a lot of goodies, but it was a bit pricey.  That is until we made  it to the garage and found this little baby ( I think the men were in charge of pricing everything in the garage!), and a beautiful side table my mom purchased for $20. Here is the before: I love the lines of it and I think it's really pretty just as it is, although it looks better in the picture than it does in real life. I … [Read more...]

Front Yard Makeover One Year Later

It's been a little over a year since we completely overhauled our front yard.   I found that nature can be a fickle thing. As much detail as I put into selecting  just the right plants for just the right spot... ... and made sure that I had odd numbers for aesthetic value,   Nature took it's own course... ...and  I'm ok with it.  Instead of the expected 24" in diameter, I got 36". Instead of my original perfect grouping of three, I now have  many pairs, with one being … [Read more...]

Desk Chair Makeover

If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen the hint I gave about what I was working on yesterday, while the rainy weather had me confined to the house: This arm belongs to this chair:   I found this chair at the thrift store for $40.  You may be looking at  it and wondering why on earth I dragged this home for $40?  It is without a doubt, the most comfortable and supportive desk chair my behind and I have ever experienced.  It had to come home with me. When I got … [Read more...]

What I Brought Home from Lucketts

Probably like most, I've heard quite a bit about The Old Lucketts Store from Marian of Miss Mustard Seed. When she started blogging about getting ready for her annual trip to Lucketts  Spring Market a few weeks ago, I thought it would be great if I could actually go.  As a mom to a toddler, you can't just make those decisions on the fly. Especially when Lucketts is four hours from your front door. Then Funky Junk Donna announced she was coming too.  Okay now this was serious! I love me some … [Read more...]

DIY Summer Wreath for Under $10!!

It is time...time to change out my Winter to Spring wreath. Isn't it crazy how expensive wreaths can be to buy already finished? There are so many new ways to create a budget-friendly wreath floating around out there, but I'm a fan of the traditional flowers-on-grapevine wreaths.  Call me unadventurous I guess, but that's what I like. Creating this type of wreath can seem harder than it really is.  Sometimes I think  it's just  knowing what stems to buy. I'm going to … [Read more...]
