Fun Christmas Place Holders

Hello to all and to those that celebrate Christmas, from my family to yours, I wish you a blessed Christmas!  My heart is so thankful...for my children...for my husband...for my wonderful family and the life that God has so blessed me with. OK now who wants to see the cutest place setters you ever did see? For years I have hosted my family for Christmas Eve dinner.  I love this tradition.  Every year, I try to come up with a fun, unique way to mark our designated places at the table.  It … [Read more...]

How to Make a Christmas Tree Card Holder

My mom has been looking high and low for a Christmas card holder.  It's been really hard to find them this year for some reason.  So, I decided to be a good little elf and make her one. Here's what I came up with:   Cute, huh?  What was that? You want me to show you how I did it? Okay! Not too difficult, you can probably look at it and figure it out. But I'll show you anyway. :) Here's what you'll need: For the body, I used these pieces of molding I found at … [Read more...]

How to Make an Illuminated Holiday Sign

The most important component of our Santa's Workshop is the sign that let's everyone know what it is.  Making the sign was pretty easy and would be a fun addition to any outdoor holiday display so I thought I'd share how I made it!  It's not too late to make one for this year.  After all, most of us keep our Holiday lights up until at least New Years, right? What you'll need: 3/8" ply wood (thick enough to be sturdy but not so thick that the lights won't show through the other side) … [Read more...]

Fun and Inexpensive Bathroom Art

When our master bathroom redo was nearly complete, I started shopping around for something to hang on the walls.  I had a difficult time finding just what I wanted so I decided to create something more personal to adorn our walls.  My baby boy was the inspiration. We had newborn photos taken at our home and the photographer captured all sorts of body parts that were so cute on film.  I thought it would be fun to take photos of different parts of all of our bodies to frame (rated G, of course).  … [Read more...]

How to Make a Silhouette Ornament

I've seen silhouettes popping up all over the place and I thought it would be fun to make silhouette ornaments as gifts!  I made these ornaments as gifts for my nieces. They were pretty simple to do, here's how... Gather your supplies: Black card stock, white card stock, scissors, frames, ribbon for hanging (or onament frames already made for hanging), side profile images First you'll need to re size your photos to fit your frames. I also inverted the colors on mine because I … [Read more...]

Building Santa’s Workshop

That's right! We built Santa's Workshop, right on our front lawn!  We love love love to deck our halls.  My husband doesn't stop until every last string of lights has found itself a home for the holidays. Here is proof...my husband had just gotten back from being diagnosed with a bacterial  upper respiratory infection less than an hour before I caught him doing this: That's him in the back yard putting up more Christmas lights he found in the garage. And I know he thinks I have a … [Read more...]

Master Bathroom Redo

This is the transformation that took place in our master bathroom.  Our house was built in the 1980's and this is definitely proof of that!   This is our not so awesome 1980's bathroom before: Gold fixtures, anyone? The vanity used to be outside the bathroom.   I know its ugly, right?! And why yes, that is a bidet in the foreground!   What? Doesn't everyone have two bathtubs in their bathroom? And how about that "spa" feel? Nice! The best thing about … [Read more...]

China Cabinet Makeover

OK ladies, why do we feel like a gigantic china hutch is something we have to cross off the list of must-haves when first furnishing a home? Maybe it's because our mothers and grandmothers had them? We have to have a place to display those dishes we so carefully chose for our wedding registry? Maybe a better question is, what do we do with our hutch when we no longer cherish it in a way we once did? Craigs list is full of them so good luck trying to sell it there. Mine sat in storage and then … [Read more...]

A Man and His Possessions

That's right, all two of them.  When my beloved husband and I married, we both owned homes of our own. We decided to sell mine since his was bigger.  He had actually done a fantastic job of decorating his house...or so I thought.  It soon came to light that his mama was the genius behind the decor.  Although it was very nice, even impressive  (for a single male), it was a bit too masculine for my taste so when I took over  moved into his castle, he had two requests: Don't touch my … [Read more...]

There’s a fake-pumpkin-eating bandit on the loose!

Someone has been up to no good around my house!  It's just before Thanksgiving and since I am hosting it this year,  I don't feel like I can get out my Christmas flare...just yet. So, I still have my little fake pumpkins here and there. What you don't see may surprise you. See these cute little fake pumpkins?    They have all been assaulted by my two year old, he's the  fake-pumpkin-eating bandit!    He just loves apples and he still hasn't gotten the message that these are NOT apples … [Read more...]
