Hello lovely Friends! It’s my favorite day of the month…Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday!! Who doesn’t love a good makeover?
Today my talented treasure-maker friends and I are transforming forgotten pieces into awesome new décor pieces!
My find came from one of my all time favorite thrift stores for a mere $4.95:
I just cannot walk away from a good deal on a headboard. There are just so many possibilities! {See how I repurposed 10 more headboards HERE.}
This one got a simple update:
Cutting off the legs and adding hooks made this a perfect place to hang coats or towels.
To cut off the legs, I used my miter saw:
After painting the headboard with DIY chalk paint in Ultra Pure White, I used this clock stencil to add a bold graphic:
I sprayed Loctite spray adhesive to the back of the stencil to hold it in place. Then I used black acrylic craft paint from Delta and a small brush to fill in the stencil.
This headboard had a lot of blank space to fill and I think the addition of the clock worked out well here.
But you know what I did? I added the stencil and was so happy with how it looked except something just didn’t seem right about it. It turns out I had stenciled it with nine o’clock at the top on the first go…oopsie! I had to sand it and it repaint, then add the stencil again correctly!
The words in the center weren’t part of the original stencil. I added them for a bit more interest…
The original stencil also had breaks in the circle, but I filled them in.
These hooks from Hobby Lobby finished it off and added function…
I just love how this dark and dated headboard became fresh new updated décor!
Don’t go anywhere just yet…my friends are sharing makeovers of their own as well today. Click the links below the photos to see the after!

Christy I totally did not see this one coming. A great repurpose indeed. And it looks so pretty hanging on the wall. Now I’m going to have to go looking for a headboard. Pinning and sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! XOXO
Allison says
I love this! You always have great ideas. 🙂 I know the first thing my husband will say to me is, “How am I supposed to hang that up? Will you show me what you used please? Thanks!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Allison! I used “D” ring hanging hardware like you see here: http://amzn.to/2clxR1g to hang it. 🙂
Becky says
I am curious as to what you put on the back to hang them on the wall?
Christy says
I never think to share that part, sorry! I used “D” ring hanging hardware like you see here: http://amzn.to/2clxR1g to hang it.

You are so creative! I honestly am continually surprised with what you come up with for all your makeovers. FYI- I painted the top of my dresser in stripes just as you had done in one of your projects. (I had left it alone not knowing what to do until I opened your email one day). I l have received more compliments on it than any other project. Thanks for the great idea and for all the inspiration 🙂
Christy says
Aww thank you, Moriah! I love that you found inspiration for your own makeover here! XOXO

Christy,
That’s sooo pretty. I, too, love to re-purpose old furniture pieces. You mention frequently that a piece will sell quickly. Do you have a “formula” for pricing your pieces? I know they will be different in other areas of the country, so giving a specific price on your re-dos won’t help us. I’m sure any advice would be helpful to many of us..thanks!
Christy says
Thank you, Karen!! Unfortunately I don’t have a magic formula for pricing. It’s not so much the price that helps items sell, but more the fact that these are one-of-a-kind unique pieces. Honestly I think I price a bit high, but my overhead isn’t cheap so I try to recoup that as much as I can. I did write a post on tips for selling your items where I did share some basic prices that you may find helpful here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/10-tips-to-a-successful-booth/ Good luck! XO

Jen @ Girl in the Garage says
i just love this Christy! I keep wanting to buy an old headboard and update it… I just need to DO it! You’ve done so many great projects with them. (funny story about the stencil being upside down, I would probably do the same thing!) 😉
Christy says
Thanks, Jen! I have about five more in my garage lol. I just can’t pass them up! XOXO
Patty says
Oh Christy that is so adorable. You just continue to amaze me with your creativity, I would never think to do something like this.
Wonderful job and simple enough that anyone could do it. Thanks for being the creative sharing person you are.
Christy says
Oh Patty, thank you so much! Your words are always so kind and so appreciated! XOXO
Gina Keysor says
The size of the clock and the addition of the script were perfect! When you realized you did the wrong 1/2 of the clock you really just said oopsie??!! LOL.
It’s a great piece, I love faux painted clocks, I made a round coffee table with one painted on top. Thx for sharing!
Christy says
Thanks, Gina! I’m so glad the clock stencil worked out, I hadn’t had the chance to use it on any thing else yet! I bet your table turned out beautifully. And there were definitely other words involved lol!! XO
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
You always come up with the great ideas, Christy. I would never have thought to use a clock face stencil on the headboard. Pinning to share 🙂
Christy says
Aww thanks, Marie! I wasn’t sure how the clock stencil would do since it was too big for the headboard, but only doing half worked out pretty well. 🙂
Tania says
Whaaaat?! That looks SO awesome, what a great idea!!
Tania
Christy says
Thanks so much, Tania! XO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says

Christy says
Ha ha now I only have five more left to redo lol! And I really did consider leaving it, but it would have bugged me like crazy! XOXO
Joanne Taggart says
This one was a surprise Christy! And I LOVE it. Who would have thought to cut it off and put hooks on it and at the price of $4.95 you can’t go wrong. I have a thing for numbers and so the clock on the headboard is awesome! Thanks so much for thinking outside of the box!
Christy says
I’m so glad you like it, Joanne!! It was a fun makeover to do! XO
Marilyn says
What a wonderful remake. Is it possible for you to share where one might find the clock stencil? Thank you.
Christy says
Thanks, Marilyn! I linked to the stencil in my post, but here it is: https://www.artisticstencildesigns.com/collections/miscellaneous-stencils/products/antique-clock-stencil-various-sizes?variant=24622765059 I have the 20″ size. 🙂
