It’s that time of year again…you know the one…my mom’s birthday! My mom is always happy when I make her something, so since she’s been hinting at a new wreath for her front door, that’s exactly what she got.
I love how it turned out, so I’m excited to share it with you today!
I wanted to make her something fresh and cheerful, but that didn’t scream Spring, especially since there is still snow threatening our area.
This was so simple to make. First I gathered my supplies:
- Grapevine wreath
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters
- Hot glue gun/hot glue sticks
- Wide wired burlap ribbon
- Stems of your choice (I chose three stems and apples for an accent)
You probably know by now that I prefer one-sided wreaths. That’s my technical term for “all the stuff on one side”. You don’t have to worry about keeping everything balanced and you spend less on floral stems to fill it.
That’s the best reason for us cheap-skates. 🙂
I started by cutting my first stems apart:
Then I added them to my wreath using a little hot glue on the end of each to secure in place.
A little sad to start, no?
Keep going…
Better!
I cut my next set of stems apart too:
And added them to my wreath…
Looking good so far…
Then I continued to cut my third set of stems:
I liked that these had some leafiness to them (that’s a word, right? 🙂 ).
I added these and my apples:
A pretty burlap bow attached with floral wire finishes it off perfectly!
So simple, right?
I tried it out on my front door:
I’m thinking I need to make one for me too!
I love the burlap against the freshness of the flowers:
I didn’t tell my mom I was making this, I just hung it on her front door and rang the doorbell. She was so surprised and loved it!
I need to create something pretty for my own door now!
It would be really nice if all I had to do was hint around to somebody that I wanted one hmmm…
You might also like my Summer wreath from last year that I made for less than $10! It would also be perfect for Spring!

Thanks, Cindy! I think it’s safe to say we are ALL ready for Spring!! It’s funny because last year our winter was so mild that I wasn’t really ready for Spring and then we got a late winter storm and that did it lol, but this year…I am SO ready! Hope you have a fantastic week! XO

Julie at Being Home says
Lovely! I have trouble making wreaths. When I try, they turn out wonky. he key for me is to not try so hard. lol You make it look effortless. 😀
Christy K. James says
Aww thanks, Julie! Making a “one-sided” wreath helps with the wonky-ness. I have that issue sometimes too. 🙂
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says

I completely suck at wreath-making. Can you come out to Illinois and tutor me?
And not to sound like a complete imbecile, but how is that wreath hanging? It looks like you’re magically levitating it against the door. Inquiring (stupid) minds want to know….

Christy K. James says
I only make one sided wreaths because they are kind of no fault…plus they’re prettier to me! How far away are you from Wisconsin? My sister lives in Kenosha! I have this hung with a heavy duty suction cup hook. It’s attached to the glass panel…like magic. 🙂
Krista @thehappyhousie says
Love it Christy- so fresh and pretty but natural feeling. I am so excited to see a spring wreath post – that means spring can’t be far behind right? (as I look out the window at snow here… lol).
Christy K. James says
Yes! Come on Spring! We have snow coming our way this week boo…so ready for warm weather! You’ll be ready for that sunny vacation! 🙂
JoAnn @ SweetPepperRose says
Very light and pretty, and adds a breath a freshness, even with the snow.

Thanks, JoAnn! Even as I was taking these photos, there was snow on the ground. I think we’re all ready for Spring this year. 🙂

Christy, I really like the white forsythia you choose. I even like the photo where you just have two kinds of floral added to your wreath….add a bow or a cluster of apples and you could call it done. 🙂 Of course I LOVE the finished product with everything…but surprisingly it was looking fabulous early on.
I bet your mom was thrilled with her beautiful gift.
Thanks for linking up your gorgeous wreath at Project Inspire{d}!!

This wreath is so beautiful – I like how it’s just a little bit of bloom, and still a lot of bare brown – just like the season! I’ve featured this on our 1st Day of Spring Round Up – http://rchreviews.blogspot.com/2014/03/14-ways-to-celebrate-spring-equinox-2014.html
Christy K. James says

Took me a bit to get down here to leave my comment, you got quite a few. I’ll read them after I leave mine.
Love your wreath for the simplicity and softness of color for spring, love the apples. Looks so pretty, loving it. I don’t have quite the kind of stems you do but will make do with what I’ve got on hand. Got quite a few more papery faux flowers at Habitat so using those. I go around taking things from other arrangements when the need arises if necessary until I can get some more. We live out in country few miles from available sources so I’ve really learned to make do, somehow the things I make turn out pretty well.
Happy spring days pinned this also.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, JaneEllen. I bet living out in the country a bit, you have a lot of natural resources that would make lovely wreaths!
