Hi sweet Friends! I’ve put the paint brush down today to share what I did with this hanging basket I found at the thrift store about a year or so ago:
It was only 99¢ and I figured I would put it to use eventually.
Well today is the day!
It now holds wildflowers on my front door:
I didn’t even paint it; that is so unlike me!
It’s so Summery and fresh and picks up the colors I have in my planters in the front. I also have a patch of daisies just starting to bloom out there as well, so this was perfect!
It reminds me of wildflowers.
Funny thing is, as Summery as it feels to me, all of these stems came from Michael’s Spring florals. That’s because I refused to pay full retail for the stunning array of flowers from their Summer collection. I couldn’t believe that not a one was on sale. These however, were all 60% off, so I made them work. 🙂
Here is what I used to create this pretty arrangement for my door:
All of the stems came from Michael’s Spring Collection. You may still be able to find these if you hurry. The ribbon was 40% off.
I started by cutting a chunk off floral foam with a steak knife to fit my basket:
I just wedged it in there in case I want to change it up in the future.
Next I cut the first two bushy sprays in the photo above into three pieces each. Here is the one with the white flowers…
The leaves on these are actually plastic.
Then I added them to my floral foam, spreading them out evenly. I trimmed the stems on the two in the front of the basket using my needle nose pliers.
It looked a bit sparse at this point, but I kept going.
Next I cut my daisy spray apart:
And started added them to the basket…
There were some pretty green stems in that bunch as well which I added next…
It was filling in nicely now. The last thing to add were the purple stems that I also cut apart:
I purchased two stems, but only used one.
They added the perfect pop of color and pick up the purple in my petunias I have out front.
This sweet bow, finished it off perfectly.
My Hubby is s-l-o-w-l-y working on restaining our trim on the outside. The door is in desperate need of fixing. The two-toned look does nothing for our entry.
But hey, don’t look at that…look how my new door basket picks up the color of the flowers!
Okay Summer, I’m ready!
This project was perfect for this month’s GYDO theme, “Outdoor DIY Projects”!

Christy says
Thanks so much, Victoria!! I seem to remember you love wildflowers too! They are so Summery to me! XOXO
Pam says
I love your wildflowers and basket. One question how do you hang it on a door with glass?
Christy says
Thanks, Pam! I use a large clear command hook. 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
It’s lovely, Christy! I so understand about slowly finishing projects. I have been living with paint patches all over my house, trying to decide on a color. For two years. I barely notice it, but everyone who comes in asks when I’m going to paint. I finally committed to a color, so we’ll see if we can get a whole wall painted now! If only we were able to spend all our time doing projects around the house…
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! Ha ha isn’t it funny how we just stop noticing the things that need attention? Hopefully we will both be able to cross these projects of our to-do lists soon! XO
Shelly says
Love yir blog! You’re so talented! All the ads make it frustrating to read though!!!????
Christy says
Thank you, Shelly! I’m assuming you read from a mobile device? That is partly my fault since I share so many darned photos, because I try to share the how-to for just about every project. If I only showed the before and two after shots, there would be hardly any ads. This post has 21 photos so…more ads. You should be able to easily scroll right past them though. XO

I can’t believe how much this looks like the flowers I did for my sister’s wedding several years ago! Same colors, same flowers, lots of green… Amazing! I love it! You can’t go wrong with purple, daisies, or lots of greenery. : )
Christy says
I bet your sister’s wedding was gorgeous! I agree…you can’t go wrong with this sweet combination. 🙂

Hey Christy! I always love your projects. You are so creative. The door basket is really great, just think it would look even better if it were white washed.
Christy says
Thanks, Deborah! I did consider it, but decided to leave it as is this time. I can always go back and paint it later. Knowing me I probably will! 🙂
Dolores Haley says

Love it! I almost never pay full price, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby roll their sales so if you just wait a week or two, what you want always comes around! The ribbon really sets off the look-great job!
Christy says
Thanks, LaFawne! I’m with you…I just can’t pay full retail if I can help it. Those pretty Summer blooms are probably already on sale by now! 🙂

Quite a proper front welcoming!!! I love door wreaths & baskets but I get the afternoon sun pounding on my front door~ouch!!~ and it would fry!!! Lovely though.
~Adeline…feeling proper today.
Looks like my Warriors are back in it to win it!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Addie! We get the morning sun, so we are lucky! I didn’t know Addie was short for Adeline, that is such a beautiful name. And yes, it looks like your warriors are hot hot hot!! XO

It is so beautiful. This weekend I am planting my wildflower garden from seeds so I will have flowers for cutting. Most of the same flowers in mix. My flower garden is a raised bed that is 10 x 12 with Morning Glory’s in each corner.
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I love to cut flowers to bring inside…sounds like you have the perfect set up to grow those beautiful wildflowers! XO
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
You do such a beautiful job arranging your florals, Christy. Mine would never come out that pretty. I like the price on the pretty burlap ribbon – should see if my Michaels has it on sale because it would be perfect for my daughter’s wedding.
Christy says
Aww you are so sweet, Marie thank you! That ribbon is gorgeous huh? The ribbon was 9.99 usd and then 40% off that. It was in with the “Alphabet Soup” themed stuff I believe. 🙂
o says
But you didnt tell us how to make the bow.its to pretty to leave out.
Christy says
So sorry, and thank you! I made it just like this one I did for this fall wreath: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/fall-wreath/ It’s an old post, but I made the bow the same as shown here. 🙂
Krista says
First off, sorry it took me so long to get over here. June is a crazy month round these parts. Secondly – WOW! I love this. I can. not. believe. those. are. not. real. flowers. I totally thought they were real until I got here. Amazing – now watering required. Me and my black thumb love it!
Christy says
Ha ha thanks, Krista!! They really do look real! Enjoy the warm weather!! XO
