Hello lovely Friends! It’s that time of year again…time to Swap it Like it’s Hot!! I absolutely love this game. If this is new to you, basically a bunch of awesome bloggers buy thrift store treasures (or not so much) to send to each other to be reinvented.
For our last round in the Spring, I was given these goodies from my friend, Shanna from Restoration Redoux:
And I turned the wood items into this pretty addition to my garden:
See more of that project HERE.
I am including a couple of affiliate links so you can find the products I use. 🙂
I really love getting items that I can transform into completely new items!
This time was a bit more of a challenge. I was sent these two items from Shelly at Confetti Style:
The tray is metal, so there really wasn’t any way I could cut it up or turn it into something completely different, and since the paint was chipping pretty badly, I decided to create something for my Halloween display with it:
Fun, right? I used my Silhouette (I have THIS one) to create this. I made a “stencil” from contact paper. I would highly recommend not being so cheap like me, and using the real deal, transfer paper, for something this detailed. It took me a while to place all those tiny details by hand, but once I got it where I wanted, I used Rustoleum Spray Paint in Gloss White to fill in the stencil:
It adds a touch of whimsy to the spooky display below:
As you can see we go all out for Halloween around here! We are definitely the Halloween house in our neighborhood. Don’t let that spook you though, we do it up for Christmas too. 🙂
How about that other piece I received? I bet you can’t even see it in the photo above.
See it tucked in the back there?
Let me move a few things for you…
I tried SO hard to come up with a unique idea for how to change this thing up. Then I painted it to see if that would spark some creativity, but I just decided to add it to this vignette as is. It holds a couple of spooky pieces here perfectly…
And because I just painted it white, it will serve as a great storage/organization piece long after the cobwebs have been taken down.
Aren’t those headless images spooky? I actually found them on Pottery Barn’s site believe it or not! A couple of years ago, I did a knock off of their Halloween Mantel:
(See the full post HERE, including how I did it with thrift store and dollar store finds.)
They offered the images then as free downloads. Unfortunately they no longer offer them. Boo!
I still love to use them.
This table is set up under a portico that you walk under when you walk up to my front door, so it stays protected. And of course this guy watches over it too…
And here it is at night:
Spooky.
Here’s a few more I took while I was at it:
See how I made that standing Halloween sign last year and more daytime Halloween décor photos HERE.
In this one, I dragged that giant tree branch out of my neighbors trash pile…
(That skeleton’s head was broken off…but the effect here is extra spooky!)
On Halloween night, we really do it up. You can see what that looks like HERE.
Here’s a daytime image from last year…the fencing in the foreground holds in the ghouls in the graveyard!
I need to take some daytime pics this year.
So that’s it for this edition of Swap it Like it’s Hot!
But wait…don’t you want to see what I sent out? If you’re one of my regular fabulous readers, I know you do! 🙂
Here’s what I sent:

Shelly@ConfettiStyle says
Christy, I love how you used the swap items i sent you. That tray is fabulous and looks like something you’d pay big bucks for. And I know the caddy will come in handy for so many uses. Great swap transformations.
Christy says
Thanks, Shelly! These were great items, but I have to admit I was feeling a bit challenged lol. And yes, that caddy is such a functional piece! XO
Charlotte Smith says
Um… your house for Halloween is ABSURD! I never go too crazy for Halloween, but this might change my mind! LOVE the tray…. the skeleton graphic is amazing. And I’m kind of obsessed with the creepy black and white pics! What a ‘chic’ way to bring in the holiday! Thanks again for being awesome!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Charlotte! We are all about some Halloween around here! Thanks once again for being our awesome leader! XOXO

Ha ha thank you so much, Jeanne!! Wow away! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
You must save a lot of money on candy, Christy. I know I wouldn’t walk my treat bag up to that house! Seriously, you did an amazing job decorating (although I am a wimpy, non-scary Halloween person).
Is that Grandma’s dresser? Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Christy says
Ha ha Marcie! It is so funny to see three year olds march right past all the spooky décor, while the ten year olds are afraid to walk up lol! You have a good memory! That is the taller mate to Grandma’s dresser and spoiler alert: I cheated on this one and painted it exactly like the first one. No surprises this time, but it fit too well for the “Glitz and Glamour” Themed Furniture Thursday this month not to share it. 🙂
Annie (Canada) says
Love your enthusiasm for Halloween Christy 🙂 You go all out! I too love Halloween but since moving to a large property set back from the road we don’t get any trick-or-treaters 🙁 so I don’t bother decorating.
Christy says
Thanks, Annie! We do love some Halloween around here! I don’t blame you for not decorating since there’s no one to appreciate it…saves money on candy though! 🙂
Katie says
Your Halloween vignette is AMAZING! You definitely knocked it out of the park with your swap items!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Katie! Visiting you soon! Can’t wait to see what you did with the items I sent. 🙂
Stephanie says

Karen @ Dogs Don't Eat Pizza says
So creative and SPOOKY for Halloween! You really go all out – that’s awesome!!
Christy says
Thanks, Karen! It makes us feel like kids again lol! XO
Suzan says
You must have the spookiest house on the block at Halloween! Though I think the tray update is cute, you would have had to fight me for it if we had seen it at the same time in its pre-update stage! I collect old tole painted trays and really like the shape of that one!
Christy says
Ha ha we do! The kids really love it though. Unfortunately the paint was chipping pretty badly in the center of the tray, but it was lovely at one time! 🙂
Emily says
Your skeleton silhouette turned out awesome!!! Love it!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Emily! XO
Laurie @ Vin'yet Etc. says
Wow your Halloween vignette is so amazing, I absolutely love how you used both items and made them so amazingly spooky! That little boy holding his head, so good, creepy good!
Christy says
Thanks, Laurie!! Aren’t those photos awesome?? I’m so bummed that PB too them down from their site, but I was surprised to find them there anyway. 🙂
karen says
You are so talented! And what a fun idea. I never saw that fun Halloween plaque out of that old ugly thing!
Christy says
Aww you are too sweet, Karen thank you!! I had no clue with this thing, but it worked perfectly for Halloween! 🙂
Stephanie @ Casa Watkins Living says
WOWIE!!! So creative and a beautiful transformation. I don’t normally decorate for halloween, but you’re display is making me want to! LOL.

Love the transformations, Christy! Are you going to do a video of your Halloween Display this year? You guys do such an awesome job decorating your home.
Christy says
Thanks, Marie! I do have a video of last year on Halloween night that my hubby made… thinking of saving that for Halloween. 🙂
