Today is the first day of Spring, so it’s a perfect day to share a Sweet Spring Table with you. Actually it’s freezing outside and calling for possible snow today, but we can pretend it’s sunny and warm, okay?
I found the cutest little unfinished birdcages at Michaels this weekend and although I had no idea what I was going to use them for, I bought some anyway! Then last night, while I was trying to go to sleep, I got the idea to use them to make napkin rings!
Here is how they turned out:
I was really pleased with them. I cut a paper towel roll into 1 1/2 ” pieces then covered them with burlap using hot glue. I spray painted the bird cages with dark brown first, then ivory and sanded them. Then I attached them to the burlap rings with hot glue.
Very cute!
See the little ceramic birds in the picture above? I was busy moving those around to add some sweetness to the scape and I came up with another sweet set up that was totally unplanned.
Take a look:
Isn’t it so cute? The funny thing is, this place setting cost me nothing! (No, I didn’t steal these things. I mean I already had everything!)
I bought the birds at Michaels at half off for $1.99 last week. I purchased similar ones at christmas that had glitter and a matte finish (I used them here also) and I loved them so much, so I was excited to see these in for Spring!
The placemats are from Stienmart.
The aqua plates are from Homegoods.
I found the glass plates at the thrift store for $1 each.
The ivory salad plates are Pottery Barn “Emma”.
BUT…I got them at a YARD SALE for $30 for 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, and 8 bowls!!!
Sorry, but deals like that deserve to be shout out loud! A set of four salad plates currently retails on PB’s website for $48! This is my all time favorite yard sale find:)
Okay…back to our regularly scheduled program…
I used things I had around the house to create a centerpiece of sorts. I used a large lantern flanked by several mercury glass pieces. The lantern may not be ideal for conversation, but it sure is pretty:)
(You may notice the other side of the table is missing its placemats…I didn’t have enough! If you didn’t notice, disregard that little side note:)
I also played around with other napkins that I made from a tablecloth I purchased at Target. I preferred the aqua paisley. (Purchased from Homegoods a couple of years ago) See what you think.
Here are all three:
The sweet bird is my favorite.
What’s yours?
XO,
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

I love the way you mixed high and low cost pieces to make such a beautiful table setting. I hope you have kept it set up to admire before it gets used!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Heather! Unfortunately I had a hard enough time keeping my two year old away from the table while photographing so I couldn’t keep it all set up, but I know what to do when Easter comes:)

I vote aqua paisley on the napkins, dear one!!!
This sweet spring table setting is charming!
While I LOVE what you did with the birdcages. . .
it is the cute white lacy bird that drew me to your post today!
I adore the lantern as the centerpiece flanked by mercury hurricanes.
Only one thought…had you consider a nest within the lantern?
Thank you for sharing a sweet Spring Tablescape, dear one!!!
