I found this little table at an estate sale this Summer for five bucks. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it so it sat in my garage.
I recently purchased a cabinet that I was thinking of painting a teal color. The paint I’m interested in using is Annie Sloan chalk paint (ASCP) in Provence. If you don’t know about the wonders of chalk paint yet (not to be confused with chalkboard paint), it is awesome because it adheres to just about any surface with NO sanding or priming needed!
There are many formulas for making your own chalk paint floating around out there but I have yet to try them. If you are a local follower of mine, the closest stockist is about two hours away from us so I order it from Classic Wall Finishes.
I thought this little table would be a great way to try out this color!
Here she is before:
Here is the ASCP after the first coat:
I almost like this look but I added a second coat:
It dries really opaque. Chalk paint has a slight texture to it but it can very easily be given a very light sanding if you prefer a smoother appearance.
I refinished my China Hutch with ASCP in Old White. Since I had some left over, I decided to use that to add a contrasting diamond pattern.
Would you like to see how I did it? If not, you can skip this part 🙂
For me, a plan almost always starts with graph paper! I measured my table and drew it out.
Then I marked where I wanted the tips of my diamonds to be using my drawing as a guide.
Using sctoch blue painter’s tape, this is how I achieved the diamond pattern on my table:
(My drawing was looking pretty rough by the end haha.)
This is how my table looked after a light sanding, a tiny bit of distressing, and a coat of clear wax:
Brennan liked it like this but…(no pun intended)…
I thought it needed more so I added Love:
You like? I wanted to add just a little something to make it more special.
I hand painted the word “Love”. I’ll show you how I did it in a follow up post just in case you’re interested.
This table went from ho hum boring…
To beautiful!
Here it is in it’s new home, my master closet!
It’s perfect for sitting on to put on socks and shoes!
Super cute table for $5, right?

I love how you transformed the table – I’m pinning it for future reference. I had never heard of chalk paint – I’ll have to check it out. Found you through Sundae Scoop – glad I did!

I’m glad you did too! I’ll warn you though…chalk paint can be addicting:)

Seriously love this! I have been toying with a similar idea for a playroom table in my house and you just convinced me: It’s a GO! Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome! That’s why its so fun to share:)

It absolutely is beautiful now, Christy! I love a harlequin pattern. I give you a lot of credit for doing the math and taping out the design. I am horrible at that type of thing so I have a large harlequin stencil that I use when I want to do the pattern on something.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Kathy! If I were doing something on a larger scale, that’s probably what I would do too:)

It IS a super cute table!!!
I’m in the process of doing a pink and white diamond patterned one – yours turned out adorable!
Hugs,
Suzan

So cute and a great price to boot! I love revamping old furniture. The only pieces of furnitute in my home that was purchased new is my sofa and loveseat and our mattresses. Revamping furniture makes your home unique.
Christy K. James says
I agree! Although I do have several store bought pieces that I’d love to secretly get rid of when my husband isn’t looking ha ha…just so I can find more fun pieces to make my own:)
