Well hello, awesome Friends! I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. I’ve spent the last few days decking the halls around here, and we are almost done!
Today I’m sharing something non-Holiday related, but FUN! You may or may not know that one of my blogging besties is Nancy from Artsy Chick’s Rule. She lives less than 30 minutes from me, and she and I have very similar styles as far as our décor and what we blog about. She’s a thrifty gal after my own heart! You may remember seeing photos from blog conferences that I’ve shared, like this one:
We thought it would be fun to go thrifting together and find something for each of us to make over, then share those makeovers with you. But THEN we thought…why not take you WITH us??
So today we are not only sharing our thrifty makeovers with you, we are also sharing a fun VIDEO of us thrifting for our items! We called it a Thrift Shop Shakedown!
First, this is the item I found to make over:
It is probably a plant stand, but could also be used as a very petite side table.
And here are me and Nancy finding it in action…enjoy! {If you have any trouble viewing the video, you can also see it here.}
{Thanks to my sweet hubby for putting that together for us!}
We had a lot of fun that day! Can you believe that table and chairs was only $35?
Ok so here is what I did with that little table…
I just gave it a simple grey and white makeover. The grey is Behr’s Sparrow made into chalk paint.
It’s pretty cute now, huh? It was kinda stuck in a time warp before, but the paint helped make it fresh.
Perfect to hold a plant or a cold beverage!
Here’s a reminder of the 99¢ sign I challenged Nancy to make over. Click on the photo to see what she did with it!
Thrift Shop Shakedown 99¢ Makeover
Hope you enjoyed our video, and these quick makeovers! We didn’t find amazing deals this go round, except for that table and chairs which wasn’t really our style, but maybe next time!
If you missed our second video, you can view it HERE!
The key to finding awesome stuff at thrift stores is going often, especially just after the weekend. I have three that are all within a few miles of my house that I visit at least twice a week. I often come out empty-handed, but sometimes I come out with a cartload. You just never know, and that’s what makes it so fun. Of course wouldn’t you know…the days that I don’t grab a cart are almost always the days I find a ton! 🙂
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

Thanks, Nancy! I really wanted to add something to the top, but it would have been covered by whatever was put on it so I stopped there, and I had to post a fun photo of us! 🙂

Loved the video and the projects….been there, done that and it’s more fun with a friend! My friend does not do any repurposing…we just laugh a lot.

Thank you, Gail! It really is more fun to go with a friend! 🙂

Hi Christy – I was over on Nancy’s blog the other day, but I obviously missed your post with the little table you purchased on your shopping trip. I just want to say it was lovely seeing the video of you both – great fun and great purchases for you both. And… would like to say that you made a great job with the table – very ‘classy’ – well done and will look forward to seeing your next joint video 🙂

Thanks, Denise! We had a lot of fun making our video…I’m so glad you enjoyed it! XO

Fun fun fun – you guys are so lucky to live near each other. Thrift shopping with another DIY blogger would be a hoot. The table looks great Christy! Can’t believe you guys are still in summer clothing – we’re bundled like Eskimos over here.

I know we really are lucky! We shot that footage a couple of months ago, but it was actually in the 70’s here today. I actually wish it were colder…Christmas is suppose to be cold! XOXO

So fun!! Loved watching two of my very favorite bloggers in action!!! So jelly about the thrift store though – I’ve checked our local thrift stores and they are pretty nasty – overpriced – and really don’t have “the good stuff!” I am excited that our smallish subarb is getting a Goodwill – hope I will be able to find some affordable treasures there! Dying to know if you bought that cute little table and charis that was $35?! And LOVE how the little table and sign turned out!
Christy K. James says
Aww thanks, Julie! We had a ball shopping. We are very fortunate that we have a ton of thrift stores in our area. We did not purchase the table and chairs, but was that not the best deal ever?! XO
