Hey y’all! Today I’m sharing my dining table centerpiece that I created on the cheap cheap cheap! Adding seasonal touches to your home does not have to cost a lot of money.
I decided to stay with the same neutral theme I chose for my New Fall wreath:
Are you ready to see what this centerpiece was made from?
Yup. It’s true! Perty huh?
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I used.
The tiled tray and the wooden bowl-on-a-stand were thrift store finds that cost me less than $5 for both. I removed the tiles and painted the tray and the odd bowl with Annie Sloan’s Old White and Pure White mixed that I had left over from my headboard turned coat organizer. Gave them a coat of clear wax and they were set. I attached the bowl like a pedestal using E6000 glue.
They were perfect as a base for this centerpiece.
This gorgeous pumpkin was first on the pumpkin hit list:
The colors were just awful. I found it at a yard sale last year with two others that were much prettier for a quarter a piece. I decided to Mod Podge this one:
The paper was from a paper stack I already had. (So really it was free.)
This was one of the other pumpkins I found at that yard sale for a quarter. I spray painted and added glitter to it last year:
But this year I decided it needed a little texture with Rustoleum Stone Textured paint:
So much better, right?
These little pumpkin wanna bes came from various bags of pumpkins I purchased over the years. There’s always a few odd balls…
(You already saw the big daddy get a decoupage makeover) I painted two of them in Rustoleum’s Eden…
And the last little guy just got a coat of Rustoleum Heirloom White. I painted the stems in brown acrylic craft paint I found in my stash.
The only pumpkins I purchased this year were the larger green pumpkin (Found at Michaels on sale and with an extra 20%off coupon for about $8.) and the small ivory pumpkin on top. (Also from Michaels on sale for $2.)
The tall vine pumpkin was a Walmart clearance special a couple of years ago. I removed the orange arrangement that was on top. I think it was around $3.
The greenery and berries were left over from my new Fall Wreath.
The little owl was a church flea market find for 50¢.
I’m loving the green in place of the oranges and yellows on my dining table this year…
You can see my hydrangeas in the background are still giving me beautiful blooms. If yours look sad and done for, go look more closely. Turn them over. The undersides are probably still beautiful. I was able to cut enough to fill three decent sized vases and this little sugar bowl:
It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to dress your home for the season. Granted I did have a few of these things on hand, but I found them all for cheap! I think this whole centerpiece was around $25 if you include the Stone spray paint I had to buy.
What about you? Are you more traditional when it comes to Fall or are you loving the neutrals like I am?
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Very, very pretty! I heart it! I’ve always been more traditional, but this year I’m not feeling it. I’m too lazy to make the beautiful changes that you made though! Lazy or tired or busy…whatever. Hahaha! I do miss crafting though. I just don’t know how some of these new mamas do it. Have a great day!!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Luisa! There will be years and years for crafting…enjoy that sweet baby boy! XO XO

I so love the neutrals that you have used this year. I think the oranges and browns and can get so overdone at this time of year. Yours colors look so fresh and fall to me.
Christy K. James says
Oh good, I’m so glad you like it! I usually love the traditional Fall colors, but I’m enjoying the break from it too. 🙂

Diane | An Extraordinary Day says
I love it! Christy, I think the fun of decorating is going with the whim of the year. Green and white is fresh. Some years I go with whatever Mother Nature is generous with and take her lead for color. Your tray makeover is fabulous. I bet we’ll be seeing more of it in the future. 🙂
BTW….I’m coming back from my hiatus from Project Inspired. I’d love for you to come by on Monday night and link up your inspiring project!
Best wishes for an extraordinary weekend!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Diane! You are great at using what mother nature provides. I rely on spray paint ha ha! Have a fantastic weekend and I’ll be sure to share on Monday 🙂

You covered one of the two things that trip me up about loving fall. One is my gardening season is over because of the freezing night time temps. mid September; the other is that I do not decorate with orange and gold. Ever. Your centerpiece is beautiful, so I’m going to copy you. I like your combination better than anything I’ve done in the past
Andrea.
Christy K. James says
You have my blessing, Andrea! Copy away, and thanks for making my day with those kind words. 🙂

Very nice. I like how you united a bunch of randomly colored pumpkins into something that coordinated beautifully. The owl watching over the pumpkins looks like he agrees too 🙂

What beautiful transformations! Thanks for sharing how you did them! What kind of paper did you use for the Mod Podged pumpkin?
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Lisa! I used thin scrapbook paper. Tissue paper would probably work even better. 🙂
Vicki says
Absolutely in love with it ALL!
Can I ask a couple questions? I’m curious as to how you finished the stand in a clear coat of wax. Does that come in a can, too? Secondly, what’s the purpose of the wax finish on top of the chalk paint.
I can’t wait to try this! I was leaning toward the looking glass spray but this is so pretty, too!
Christy K. James says
So glad you like it, Vicki! I actually could have used regular latex on the tray portion of the stand since the wood finish did not appear to have any kind of sealer on it. I could haven then just used a spray acrylic sealer in a matte finish. I already had my chalk paint out and my brush at the ready from painting the base portion which had a finish, so chalk paint was perfect. I used Annie Sloan clear soft wax to seal by applying the wax, removing the excess with a soft cloth, and buffing to a nice sheen. (The wax looks like shortening.) The wax used on top of the chalk paint creates a bond that prevents the paint from chipping off. I love the hand painted look and finish of chalk paint, but if you don’t mind sanding a little before, you could use primer and satin latex. Hope this helps 🙂
