Hello awesome Friends! I’m so glad you stopped by today! Actually I’m so glad you stop by every day. 🙂 Remember a week or so ago when I shared this little unfinished table that I painted, one my Dad had made several years ago?
See that post HERE if you missed it.
Well when I brought this home from my parent’s attic, I also picked up its big sister:
My parents and I did craft markets for about 15 or so years and these are tables my Dad built. My Mom would paint scenes on top of them. They had a few left over that have just been collecting dust in their attic, and like I said when I shared the first table, my Mom has been offering these to me for quite some time to make over for my booth.
I finally took her up on her offer. It was the fact that they were unfinished that made me apprehensive about painting them, however I gave the first one the petroleum jelly treatment to create a bit of a distressed look and it turned out pretty cute. I have included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I used.
This one got some classic stripe action:
For this one, I started by spray-priming the table with Rustoleum spray primer. It was a pretty windy day so I used my HomeRight Spray Shelter…
The unfinished wood really soaked up the primer, but it was good enough.
Then I painted it in a 50/50 mix of Annie Sloan’s French Linen and Pure White. I still love that color and have yet to find a knock-off color that I like as much. (Or maybe I haven’t tried that hard. 😉 )
The coverage on this color is amazing. I did two coats, but it probably could have done with one.
For the stripes I used FrogTape for delicate surfaces and doubled up the nearly two-inch size to create broad stripes. (See how to easily measure out your stripes HERE.)
Isn’t that lamp a cutie? It’s one of a set I bought last year at HomeGoods for the console table behind my sofa.
A little sanding and a coat of Annie Sloan clear soft wax to seal and protect.
The handle is one I buy ALL the time from Hobby Lobby. ( I call them Hooby Looby and always have to resist typing it that way ha ha.)
The drawer got some pretty contrasting paper…
Now I’ll definitely be picking up the few small tables they still have left. Both of these were really simple and quick to paint!
I have a super cute makeover to share on Tuesday, this little table and chair set:
I actually found the table at a different place from the chairs a few months apart! How lucky was that?!
UPDATE: No need to wait…see how these pieces look now HERE!
Have a great weekend! 🙂

Christy, this table is wonderful! I love the stripes and the colors. As I read, I was going to ask if you found you had “ridges” between the stripes, but then you said you sanded before waxing so… if there were any “ridges” they were gone before waxing.
Love the colors. Once again you knocked it out of the park. I am so glad you picked these tables up from your folks. 🙂 Thanks for all the details. 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! Yes, the sanding really makes all those ridges from the stripes smooth. I’m glad I finally brought those tables home too! XOXO

Once again I love this make-over. Anne Sloan’s French Linen is a beautiful color and the white stripes look great. Of course the handle is super cute.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I’m a big fan of this color too! 🙂

I’ve been keeping my finger’s crossed since my first visit that Hooby Looby comes to Canada. Mama can never find a great selection of knobs and pulls. Love the classis stripes and paint combo on your Dad’s handmade console table – pinned.
Christy says
Oh girl…Hooby Looby is the best! I hope you get one up there!! And thank you! I think my Dad enjoyed seeing what I did with his handiwork! XOXO

I love the stripes Christy! 🙂 Lucky you they had all that furniture just waiting around for you to make pretty! And I know, you know, you can have that color paint matched. 😉 lol It is a great color, I need to pull it off the shelf more and use it! xoxo

Thank you, Nancy!! I know, I can’t believe I hesitated bringing those pieces home for so long. Yes I really should just have that paint color matched ha ha! Stay warm! XOXO

So you get your talent naturally?…exposed to selling and using your imagination with your parents? Did you recover (make a slipcover) the (chair) you have beside the console table in your pics? I bet all your friends are as envious as can be that you are so talented…is there anything you can’t do?
Christy says
Thank you, Sherry! Yes my parents were a huge influence, and I’m very grateful that. The chair slip cover was a DIY job; you can see that here if you like: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/slipcovering-an-armless-accent-chair/ The only thing about being a DIYer when none of your friends are is they always want you to do things for them. Doing things others want you to do is not nearly as fun ha ha! Have a great weekend! XO

I bookmarked this slipcovering job. I am revving up to slipcover two occasional chairs..need all the help and advice I can get. Thank you!
Christy says
Oh good…I think you’ll find this helpful. It wasn’t too bad of a job at all. If I were to tackle another set, I would probably purchase the same white bull denim fabric I used for my sectional slipcover. It looks a bit nicer in person than the drop cloth. I found it at JoAnns on sale for around $6/yard. You can see that here if you like: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/how-to-make-a-sectional-slipcover/ Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Karen! 🙂

Lovely, Christy! Did the little one sell yet? I’d be surprised if you still have either for very long. 😉
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! I just dropped the white one off last weekend and haven’t been back yet. I hope it doesn’t last long! XO

Such a cute little table! Your stripes are always so well done. Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes to say things wrong, and then fights typing it, and saying it that way to innocent bystanders… or maybe that one is just me. : )
Christy says
Thanks, Becky! Yes that is me too ha ha! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
You are so talented. You make pieces look so nice! I am always in awe of your work. I love the drawer pull you used on it!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Rose! I appreciate your sweet words! Have a great weekend! XOXO

I got a kick out of your Hooby Looby” comment and just had to share my Hobby Lobby story. Once upon a time my young son came home from Bible class with the sand sculpture they had made. He was so excited and wanted to make another one and I had to tell him that I didn’t know where to get the materials. He told me it’s OK mom I asked my teacher and she said they got them at Ali Baba. I had no idea you were Alibaba was so I made it a point to ask his teacher who then told me that no it was hobby lobby
Christy says
Oh that is so funny!! And to this day do you call it Alibaba? Sometimes those things stick with ya! ;D
September Whisenant says
Yes, we do still call it Alibaba! I thought I was including that in my original post but for some reason couldn’t see what I was typing which made proofreading impossible and somehow that part didn’t make it. Not sure what was going on but it’s fine today. Anyway, that son just turned 30 so you are so right, it did stick with us!

Ha ha! 🙂
