Hello Amazing Friends! I’m back today sharing the makeover of a piece that has been in my garage for at least two years. I’m starting to sound like a broken record, right? I have been so good about working through my stash, and I am down to just a couple of furniture pieces, a bin of odds and ends, and this stack of goodies I pulled out from the depths during the big purge:
That drawer is what is up for a makeover today!
It came from a drop leaf table I found on Craig’s List. One of only two things I’ve ever bought from there. The table was selling for $25 which I thought was a steal, but when I got there to pick it up, it was in two pieces and needed serious repair. I didn’t know how to tell the seller I didn’t want it, so I brought it home.
Needless to say, I never repaired it, and I never bought another thing off of CL!
I did keep one of the top pieces and this lone drawer:
And here is what I did with it:
I have looked at this thing so many times trying to find a new purpose for it, and I finally did. After looking at it for the about the 100th time, it finally occurred to me that I could cut it, so before I thought about it too much, that’s what I did.
I had these jars that I found at the Target dollar spot a while back…
So I decided I would cut the drawer to fit them:
Yup I sure did cut that drawer right in two! I used my table saw. 🙂
Then I separated the pieces on the back end to get that back piece out:
Then I just used wood glue and my nailgun to put it back together.
The jars fit in it perfectly.
I used Dixie Belle paint in Fluff for this one. It has some serious coverage with only two coats! Love that.
The drawer front hangs over in the front, so I needed something to hold the back side up…
I just added a little block of scrap wood…hey, it does the job!
This would also be cute on a vanity holding toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc, or for incoming mail!
That’s one less thing in that to-do pile! I’m actually going to need to go thrifting soon since I have hardly anything left…or better yet, yard saling!
Speaking of yard sales, on Thursday I’ll be sharing my favorite tips for hosting a successful yard sale:
With over 25 yard sales under my belt, I feel like a pro ha ha! Or you can just come look at the pictures and see what I was selling.
UPDATE: Check out my must dos for a successful yard sale HERE now! 🙂

Cute! It looks like a great size and I love how you mixed the shiny knob with the more rustic backplate. Adorable.

P.S. I’m debating putting my name on the list for a booth in town. Eeeek!

Cute as a bug in a rug as they say! The little bump up piece in the back made me crack up.
Christy says
Thank you!! Ha ha yes, it did the job though! 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
Seriously cute, Christy! Too bad about the table. I suggest practicing this: “It’s not exactly what I looking for, thanks anyway.”
That way you don’t accidentally say “Are you crazy? Who would pay $25 for that piece of junk?” even though that’s what you’re thinking.
Perusing the free section of craigslist yesterday, I thought of you. So much Christy material out there, just waiting to be transformed.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! The lady I bought the table from was a frail older lady and I just didn’t have the heart not to take it, but I will keep your words in mind next time for sure! And ha ha…yes I will try not to say what I’m really thinking lol!! I think I could find some real treasures on CL if someone else could do the bargaining and pick up for me. 😀
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
That is adorable Christy! The knob flourish really makes it! And I love the idea of using that in that bathroom..would be so cute in there! xoxo
Christy says
Thanks, Nancy! Wish I had a space in my bathroom to keep it! XOXO

I love this idea – making the container to hold the jars from an old drawer. I like the finish on it, too, – the distressed white paint, and the “drawer pull” is beautiful! Great job!

I just love how this turned out! I’m always amazed how all your projects turn out and would love to visit that creative side of your brain, lol You are able to take what looks like something I’ve passed up at the thrift store 🙁 and you are able to create a beautiful, useable decor or furniture!
Speaking of Thrift Stores, I loved the video of you and Artsy chicks rule on YouTube!
Thank you
Christy says

Naomi S. says
That is very clever and the jars are so pretty. Also, I am dying to see little plants in that made-over drawer. Maybe little succulents, which are so in vogue these days. What do you think? Or some cut flowers in the blue jars. Wouldn’t that be pretty? Great make-over!
Christy says
Thanks, Naomi! My hydrangeas are just started to get blooms, and I agree these would be perfect for them! 🙂
Sophie says
What a cute idea! Why not chop a drawer in half?!
Christy says
Thanks, Sophie! Right??
