Hello Friends!! Do you ever visit estate sales? I LOVE estate sales. My favorite is when I come across them unexpectedly while I’m already out and about. My Mom and I were out shopping one day last month when we came across one such sale. I found a few things…
I found this huge hand-built bookcase for $40:
I can’t wait to start on that! (Update: See it HERE now!)
I also found this pretty vanity bench for only $15:
(Update: See how that turned out HERE!)
And these breadboards for $9 for both:
Today I am sharing these sweet night tables I found for $30 each:
These weren’t super cheap like my 99¢ table, but a great deal for an estate sale, and I knew they would paint up so pretty.
I have included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I use.
A couple of coats of “Fluff” white by Dixie Belle Paint brought out all those lovely curves:
This is the same color I used on my drum table that I shared last week. This paint gave perfect coverage in only two coats.
That’s pretty awesome! It usually takes three coats for solid coverage.
This is white, but not stark, bright white. It has a more vintage feel.
There are those thrift store hydrangeas again before I removed the white ones you saw on my little 99¢ table I shared on Tuesday.
The drawers on these night tables were very dirty on the sides and inside for some reason. I have a feeling these tables had been stored somewhere for a while with the drawers separate. That’s the only thing that makes sense, so I decided to paint the entire drawers:
I used this classic black and white toile that came from my Mom’s fabric stash to line the bottoms of each drawer:
Timeless, and so pretty against the white. I attached the fabric using matte Mod Podge, brushing it on with a chip brush like a glue.
You can see a video of how I line drawers with fabric below…
If you have trouble viewing, find it on YouTube HERE.
I kept the original hardware, but I removed them before painting them in the Fluff color.
I lightly sanded the raised edges with 220 grit sandpaper to distress them just a bit. I don’t love a super chippy or dirty looking shabby piece, I prefer a subtle shabby that looks a little time-worn, but clean.
And that’s it! These two pretties have already made their way to my booth. 🙂
I’ll be back on Sunday, sharing our final favorites round-up from our last Get Your DIY On party, then I’ll see y’all on Tuesday, sharing this ginormous mirror I redid and the secret weapon that made painting all those nooks and crannies so much easier!
UPDATE: Check out how this ginormous mirror looks now HERE!
XO,

How beautiful those turned out. Do you mind if I ask how much your selling them for in your booth? I think your amazing.
Christy says
Aww thank you SO much, Mary!! I have them priced at $139 each. 🙂
JamieK says
Gorgeous!!! I bet they won’t be in your booth for long! $30 each is a great price for matching end tables! Love em!!
Christy says
Thank you, Jamie! That really was a great price and they were just so sweet…glad I bought them! Hoping for a quick sale too. 🙂 XOXO
Anya mathis says
How funny is this!? I made over the matching dresser to your set of end tables! I actually made it over twice. About 5 years ago I painted it white, then this past fall I chopped it up and took I down from a dresser to a larger size nightstand with a new stained wood top. (The kids had been really hard on it and the large beast that it was had to be tamed) I wish I could post a photo on
here! I love your stuff and someday will get to do as many projects as you do! (Two more years till ALL the kiddos are in school full day! Yay!)
Christy says
Oh funny! I would love to see a pic of it…you can always message me on FB with it if you’d like to share. Kids sure are hard on our pretty things, aren’t they? I won’t lie, I enjoy my time while the kids are at school lol (guilt free crafting time!), but I’m always happy to see them come home too. 🙂
Susan K says
Those are beautiful. Great job!
Christy says
Thank you, Susan!! XO
Becky says
Your tables are lovely! You did a beautiful job on them! See, that’s why I like your style so much, it’s that not-too-shabby,-just-broken-in-over-years-of-love-and-living thing, that you have perfected. I have a lot of kids, so my furniture ends up that way fast. I’m happiest when it starts out that way too, and we don’t have to feel pain over the first scratch or scuff!!
Those hydrangeas are amazing too! What a find! The couple of times I’ve found a really great quality silk floral 2nd hand, I am SO happy! Those things cost a bazillion $$$ new! : )
I can’t wait to see what you do with that amazing bookshelf and the mirror!
Christy says
Thank you, Becky and I couldn’t agree more! I don’t want a piece of furniture that looks like grandma left it outside for a couple of years collecting dirt. I want it to look a bit time-worn, but like it has been well looked after! And yes, the fact that it already has a little distressing doesn’t make me freak out when my kids add their own distressing to it ha ha! The mirror turned out so perty. Maybe the bookcase will ne next. 😀
Rebecca Louise says
I wonder how you have time to take care of family, your beautiful house and knock out furniture makeovers and then blog? I truly admire your zest and creativity. Are you one of these people who only need 3 hours sleep a night, lol? Any tips for organizing your time? Do you have a schedule and set times that you try to work on your business? I would like to expand my vintage booth to online markets but am intimidated … I’m more of an Autumn Chicken 😉
Louise
Christy says
Hi Louise, thank you!! I wasn’t always so organized ha ha, but after four years with my blog and three years with my booth, I feel like I have a good rhythm going now. I treat my painting like a job and work while the kids are in school. I usually blog at night after everyone has gone to bed. I don’t watch much TV and that probably helps. I also use a planner and try to plan out my day and what I want/need to accomplish and that keeps me on track. I do often wish there were more hours in the day though! 🙂
Christine says
Wha…? NO! Don’t make us wait to see that gorgeous mirror repaint!
Christy says
Oh ha ha so sorry, Christine! 😀
Regina says
Absolutely beautiful!!! I noticed that the wood appeared glossy, did you have to sand first to take down the shine or just go straight over with the fluff?
Christy says
Thanks, Regina! Dixie Belle paint is like most chalk paint, no prep needed other than a good cleaning. 🙂
Alice says
No final “finish” (like matte clear varnish)? Would like to know if the Dixie Belle Paint doesn’t need it. Thanks!
Christy says
Hi Alice! I finished them off with a coat of Annie Sloan’s clear wax, as Dixie Belle paint does require a finish. 🙂
Julie B. says
Very nice, Christy. Did you hand paint these or use your Homeright sprayer? I hope these go fast in your ‘store’!
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! I hand painted these. I’m so lazy about pulling my sprayer out lol, and I know it would be so much faster!
Angelia says
These beauties will sell quickly! So beautiful. Thank you for sharing the inside drawers. Love them with the fabric. A double dose from you this week!! ???????? Can’t wait to see this mirror!
Christy says
I hope so, Angelia, thanks!! I love that fabric too, and the mirror is on it’s way! XOXO
Annie (Canada) says
Very pretty and classic Shabby Chic! I don’t think they will last long in your booth.
Christy says
Thanks, Annie! I love a simple shabby look, and I’m hoping for a quick sale! XOXO
Cindy Pierce says
The nightstands turned out beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Cindy! XO
rose l. says
Looking forward to seeing how you redo the shelf and breadboards (remind me of pizza ones from a restaurant I worked at!. I like what you have done with the nightstands but I can hardly see the little decorations below the drawers. Usually they would pop. Maybe it is the way the photos came out.
Christy says
Yes I can’t wait to start on the bookshelf, and I’m not sure if I’ll paint the breadboards…kinda love them as is! I agree it is hard to see the details in these photos…sometimes that window washes out the photo a bit. You can see them a bit better in person. 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
Beautiful pair! Can’t wait to see what you do with that bookcase. I just acquired one that’s similar and I’m waiting for inspiration to strike after priming it. I love to get ideas from your projects.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! Inspiration hasn’t struck just yet, but it’s coming! 😀
Melinda says
Wished I lived closer~those would be coming home with me!!
Christy says
Aww I wish you lived closer too! 😀
Marie from The Interior Frugalista says
Still a good price at $30 each (at least in my neck of the woods). Fluff (love the color and the brand) came to the rescue and they look beautiful. Lov’n the black & white contrast inside the drawers too. Pinning to share 🙂
Christy says
Yes, I agree on the price, they were very well priced for an estate sale! I love that color too…I think it is my new favorite. It’s kind of a vintage white and I love that! Have a great weekend, Marie! XOXO
Sue says
I love and admire your painting style. I too like a “little’ distress…not a lot. I have a lot of furniture to paint, come nice weather, and you are my inspiration! Thank you so much for all you share! From telling us about the “tricks” you use , all the way to the paint products on each project.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue, that means so much to me!! I am ready for the nicer weather to come back too…so nice when we can get outside to paint. 🙂
Lyn says
Those look more like pizza peels to me (at least the bigger one does) rather than bread boards.
Christy says
They may be, Lyn, thanks!
Patty says
Love your beautiful finds, how lucky you are. I can’t wait to see what you do with them.
The little night stands are beautiful, great job as usual.
Christy says
Thank you, Patty! I was glad I found that sale! XO
Jan says
Christy!
These are really pretty and I can’t believe all the great finds you made at the estate sale! You always inspire me!
Thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thanks, Jan! There are several estate sale companies in my area and I am always excited when I come across one run by this particular one. They are so much more reasonably priced than most others. Lucky I came across their signs that day! XO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Those turned out so pretty Christy! I just love estate sales but haven’t been to any in a long while. Spring! 😉 Can’t wait to see what you do with your other goodies! And love the flowers, I picked up some from Michael’s very similar before the holidays, love that they look so real! 🙂 xoxo
Christy says
Thanks, Nancy!! Good fake flowers can be SO expensive, but at least they won’t die on you lol! We need another thrifting and lunch day soon!! XOXO
