Hello, beautiful Friends! Today I am sharing what I did with an old headboard I found at a yard sale for a mere $5. My car was already packed, but I squeezed her in!
Here she is as I found her:
And here is how I repurposed her:
Aint she perty now??
The previous owner had already spray painted it black which was the perfect background for my Cottage White DIY chalk paint.
I’ll tell you, after going back to Annie Sloan chalk paint to paint an entire dining set, I did not see a difference. The ASCP in Old White has a bit more of a yellow undertone, but I only used it because I wanted to keep the color consistant with my hutch.
I won’t be shelling out close to $40 for another quart of paint anytime soon! On an up note, though, the one quart did do all six chairs and the table base, two coats on each!
I added the hanging brackets to add function.
Can you imagine this just inside the door of a quaint little cottage, a place to hang your hat when your’e finished working in the garden?
I hand painted the letters using the old school transfer method.
Sanded here and there…
It’s August, but my garden is still hanging in there! You can see the full tour here.
I added hanging D-ring hanging hardware to the back to for hanging.
I wish I had a place to hang her, but I just don’t. She’ll be for sale at the Christmas Market!
Charming, yes? It’s so fun to repurpose things and give them new life!

This really is adorable Christy. You always do such a good job! How do you do the letters?
Christy K. James says
Hi Luisa! I found the font and size I wanted on paint.NET, then reversed the words and printed them out. I laid them face down where I wanted them and then went over the letters with pencil which transferred them to the headboard. Then I hand painted over them with acrylic paint. A but time consuming, but worth it. There’s a link in the post on how to transfer them. 🙂
