Hello lovely friends! Today I am sharing 10 awesome trays I either made or upcycled!
But first, I hope you enjoyed the Easter holiday, and I have some super exciting news to share!
Guess who finally sold their house?? That’s right, our old house finally sold, and we closed on Friday! Woo Hoo!! It has been on the market since late August, and we knew it would be a challenge to sell because although you never saw it (or heard it I should say) on the blog, our house backed up to a very busy road, and it was super noisy at times. Can I just tell you how relieved we are that we only have one house now?! Now we can start working on projects around here that we have been waiting to tackle, and I can’t wait! If you are new around here, you can see our old home’s Empty House Tour HERE.
Maybe I’ll share our to-do/wishlist here so y’all can help keep us motivated and accountable!
My kiddos are on Spring break this week and we have family coming in town tomorrow, plus we’ve been at the old house working to get it ready for closing, so I don’t have a brand spankin new makeover ready to share today. Instead I have rounded up 10 of my favorite DIY and upcycled trays that I’ve shared over the years! It’s always fun to look back at past projects! And don’t worry, I’l be back with something new to share on Thursday.
Enjoy!
1
I’ll start with this tray I made from this sweet cross stitch artwork I found at the thrift store:
I replaced the cross stitch with a piece of brown hardboard (like pegboard but without the holes). I used a stencil to add this damask flourish detail.
See more of this makeover HERE. I did keep the cross stitch by the way, but still have yet to do anything with it.
2
Next is this cutie that inspired my tray table makeover from last week:
I used my silhouette to add numbers here for a fun look. This was pretty large as well!
See more of this makeover HERE.
3
How about this DIY tray from another frame?
This frame was nice and deep and I knew it would make an excellent tray! I added bead board to the bottom here and some wire lace detail around the edges.
Visit this makeover HERE.
4
Up next is another tray I added some fun graphics to:
You have seen me reuse this design a few times now, but this is the tray I originally designed it for. I used my silhouette to add this one too.
See how I did it HERE.
5
At number five on my list is this easy-to-make reclaimed wood tray:
By reclaimed wood, I mean old fence pickets I found curbside. The super thin, least expensive fence pickets work best. This frame only cost me a dollar, so with my free pickets, the only expense was really the hardware!
I can find this style of frame at just about any thrift store I walk into and they make the best trays. I sell these quickly when I put them in my booth! See how I made this one HERE.
6
How about another reclaimed wood tray that I had a little more fun with:
This is one of my favorites for sure!
White-washing the dirty old fence pickets makes them make them so pretty. See how I did this one HERE.
7
This next tray got an update with a French love letter stencil:
Good thing I decided to redo it since the original insides were full of mold!
See more of this pretty makeover HERE.
8
I found this next little tray for only a couple of dollars on clearance at the thrift store:
It was kind of small to be really functional, but a DIY stencil turned it into fun coastal-inspired wall décor!
See more of this makeover HERE.
9
This next two-tiered tray was made from a couple of frames I almost put out for my yard sale:
It made the sweetest cupcake stand!
I sold this in my booth, but I really wish I would have kept this one. See how it came together HERE.
10
And most recently I shared this shiplap inspired tray:
It started life out as an inbox, but when I saw it at the thrift store I thought it would make a great tray!
See how I upcycled this inbox HERE.
Okay and how about just one more as a bonus? This one is definitely a favorite!
I made it from an old frame and an estate sale scarf!
See how this sweet tray came together HERE.
And there you go! Trays are décor staples and there are so many ways to make old ones new again. If you’re feeling crafty, you can make your own with just about any old frame!
I’ll be back on Thursday sharing what I did with this headboard that I picked up for $10 last week:
See y’all Thursday!
UPDATE: Check out what this spindlicious headboard became HERE!
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

That is great that you sold your former house! I’m sure it must have been stressful wondering when it was going to sell. My son had his trailer at my house and I’m so glad it’s gone. Let me tell you it was a huge trailer/camper. Yay! I can get on with landscaping this summer! Obviously, it was at my house because I had the most property to keep it. Lucky me. Thanks for reposting all your trays, it was great!
Christy says
Thank you, MaryJean! I can’t tell you how relieved we are that that house is sold…I was not looking forward to tending to the old landscaping from afar all Summer! And yes, now we can start making changes to our new landscape yay! I bet you are happy to have that camper gone as well! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Julie!! We are SO thrilled that we are now able to close that chapter! I hope the new family enjoys it as much as we did! XOXO
Addie says
Yay!!!! You sold the house!!! You sure are brave….buying a new one before the old one sold. Don’t think I can do it. Now you can rest easy with that monkey off your back!!!!
Have fun being carefree in all your new projects!!!
Christy says
YES finally!!! We were very brave but had no idea it would take so long! SO relieved, my friend! XOXO
Marie says

Christy says
Aww thanks, Marie! And yes we are SO relieved for sure!! Just in time to start landscaping our new house, and now we can afford to do it lol! XOXO
Becky says
You’ve probably been the main reason for my love of trays. Any that don’t disappear at craft shows don’t get a second chance, I keep them! They are perfect gifts too! These are all wonderful, and I’d especially snap up #6, 10, and 2 any day. Nice!
YAY for the house sale!!! We sat on ours for a while too (mostly waiting to see of a brother really did want to buy it, had to be careful who we sold to; my mom lived across the street), and WHAT a relief to sell (to the slow-poke brother)! You guys are feeling free and breezy now! : )
Christy says
Aww yay! I do love some trays too! I don’t blame you for keeping the ones that don’t sell! And yes you must know exactly how we were feeling with our old house still on the market…thank goodness your brother came through and ours finally sold…such a load off! XOXO
Louise says
Christy, it keeps happening: I click on something I want to know more about, and it’s Confessions…you! The trays are lovely, great — the handles add a lot to the look and of course to their usefulness. I like how you painted most all the same color. Also love the feet of the cupcake stand! I need to look harder for those wonderful accessories! Good luck with all the house things!
Christy says
Oh ha ha, well good! Thank you, Louise! Yep sometimes I just keep my eyes open for those little things that I might be able to add to something else because you just never know! XOXO
