Hello beautiful friends! Today I am sharing 12 of my thriftiest hanging shelf makeovers!
I know y’all were expecting to see a kids’ table and chair set today. It was actually this pink set here that has been in my booth for forever. I decided to bring it home and give it a redo, but it turns out that one of the chairs was broken! No wonder it hadn’t sold. I had already started sanding the table when I discovered the break in the chair so it will still get another makeover. I need to figure out a fix for the chair first though so it is not quite ready to share just yet.
One thing I have a hard time passing up at thrift stores and yard sales are wood shelves. They are functional, which makes them great sellers, and there are so many ways to update them!
Take a look at these gems before:
They were just begging for some love, and some of them didn’t even start out as shelves!
Enjoy this fun collection from my archives!
1.
Up first is this cute combination of parts I picked up from a yard sale and the thrift store:
The mirror only cost a dollar, and I switched out the eagle for a lamp final that worked much better!
It’s a super oldie! See more of it HERE.
2.
This one is probably the biggest transformation considering it was once a footboard!
I was originally going to turn it into a sign, but when that didn’t quite go as planned…this happened.
See how I transformed that footboard into this shelf HERE.
3.
This is a favorite… I just love the bold numbers on this old Home Interiors piece:
See more of this sweet makeover HERE.
4.
This is an oldie but goodie made from a shutter I had hanging around for years in my garage:
I paired it with a piece of scrap wood and some brackets from a another shelf and voila!
See more of this simple creation HERE.
5.
This is another old favorite…because you know how much I adore a simple white makeover!
And because…did you see where it started??
This was actually a remake of a remake…see the first makeover HERE!
6.
This next one is a recent redo! I picked this up the last time Nancy and I went thrifting:
I added fabric to the back of this one and love how it turned out.
See more of this one HERE.
**Nancy and I are actually going thrifting again today!** 😀
7.
Here’s another 80’s redo that was part of my March Madness series back in 2016:
The 80’s rocked those hearts didn’t they?
See more of this shelf makeover HERE.
8.
This next one was also part of that same March Madness series, and started out as a drawer:
See more of this drawer turned shelf HERE.
9.
This next one was one my son, Jack, redid. It was the first project piece he picked out himself…
Adding beadboard to the back always adds a touch of charm and the drawer pull was a fun addition.
Visit this one HERE.
10.
This shelf was a collaboration with Jack…
I thought it was a fun piece, especially for only $5, but it is still for sale in my shop.
Visit this makeover HERE.
11.
I shared another 80’s charmer at the beginning of this year…
It sold right away woohoo!
Revisit this cutie HERE.
12.
And finally, this is my all-time favorite…probably because it started out as trash:
I actually kept this one, and it is hanging in our downstairs guest bathroom.
See the whole makeover HERE.
And that’s it! Cute decor doesn’t have to be expensive…most of these shelves cost less than an extra value meal! 😀
I always enjoy looking back at past projects. I hope you did too!

I do love almost all of them but my favorite is #12! I just love what you did with that and I’d buy it in a hot second! All of these came out nicely. Well I’m not fond of #10 at all. What I don’t like about it is the striped frame. You must have been feeling ill the day you transformed this because it’s totally not you! LOL
Christy says
Thanks, Shirley! I love #12 too…totally my favorite! And #10 was a collaboration with my son, so yep it is bit of a stretch for me…might need to bring that one home for a redo! Have a great weekend! XOXO

I am missing that pink table and chairs, but I know you’re doing something magical that we’ll see soon. In the meantime, so many fabulous shelves! The drawer, rocking chair and footboard are favorites because of your ingenuity, but the shutter has to be my favorite of all.
What were we thinking with all those hearts? It didn’t occur to me to lose the hearts and keep the shelves. By the way, did you ever find a use for that little eagle? ????
Christy says
Trust me…that set doesn’t look so magical at the moment ha ha. Wish I had seen it just needed a little repair before I started sanding the old design off. And you think just like me…the shelves that were repurposed from something else entirely are my favorites too! Those hearts? Seriously, what were we thinking?? I never did reuse the eagle, but I still have it. 🙂 Have an awesome weekend! XOXO

Great collection!! You always have my attention when there’s some bead board, so #9 and #11 are my favorites! Love the color on #11 too!! I see some some projects on my horizon! Have a great weekend!

I just gave my Home Interior shelf a make over a few weeks ago!
Made me feel like less of a hoarder!! Lol!
Love your post.

Thanks, Margie! Ha ha it does feel so good to tackle those projects, doesn’t it? I have quite a few in my hoard that I still need to get to! Have a great weekend, neighbor! XO

I love “wood” to upcycle. The wood section is one of my routine lookey loos when out thrifting and at yard sales. My fave is the broken chair hooks that yoi say you have in your bathroom, way to see beyond the broken skeleton!
Christy says
Me too for sure! I always stalk those sections for fun finds to redo! Glad you enjoyed the broken chair shelf, thanks! That is my fave as well! Have a great weekend, Sandra! XO
Jeannette says
I am in Norfolk and plan to visit your shop. Is the name of it the same as your blog name?
Thanks.
Christy says
Hi Jeannette! My booth does not have a name but if you enter the building through the door on the left and walk straight to the very back, you’ll run into a booth that has a window in it. My booth is on the other side of that window…just walk around that corner and you will be there! XO
