Hello, amazing friends, and Happy New Year! I cannot wait to see what this beautiful new year brings my way! But first, let’s get inspired by the best of 2022 here on the blog! Today, I’ve got 13 fab furniture makeovers to share with you!
I always enjoy seeing what made it on the list!
I linked to the original posts for each at the bottom of each makeover if you’d like to see more.
Enjoy!
13 Fab Furniture Makeovers
13
Starting our countdown at number 13 is this demilune table I picked up at the thrift store for $10. It’s actually one of my personal favorites!
With a bit of sanding, some paint, and the help of this silkscreen stencil, this doesn’t even look like the same table!
The silkscreen stencils give such amazingly sharp detail!
See more of this cutie pie half moon table HERE.

Next up is Brennan’s desk that I just shared recently. After paying too much for his new bedroom set, I was on the hunt to save money on his desk and found the perfect candidate on sale for half off at only $12:
It’s honestly not much of a looker in its before state, but I liked the masculine lines for his room.
I painted it to match the rest of his furniture by starting with Sand Bar, followed by Whitewash Glaze:
Here’s a better look up close:
See more of this desk, what went completely wrong with the furniture we had delivered, and how I fixed it HERE!

In the number 11 spot on the list is this spindle headboard and footboard set I found for $20 at my favorite thrift store:
I’ve turned one of these sets into a bench once before, and I knew I wanted to do the same with this one!
The spindles always do it for me…instant charm! And I love this custom color mix!
I shared the colors used and step by step how I did it HERE!
10
Coming in at number ten is an almost fail that resulted in quickly turning to plan B. It all started with this drop leaf oak side table I picked up for a steal at only $10:
It wasn’t in the best shape, but a good sanding solved any issues it was having and it was ready for its big makeover!
Here is how it eventually turned out:
Pretty cute, eh?
The addition of the resin piece on the front and some gray wax to highlight the details really added to the end result:
Plus, I added a fun striped detail to the underside:
See what the big fail was and how I fixed it HERE!
9
Number nine in this countdown is this dresser I picked up for a steal at half off of $65 at the thrift store:
It wasn’t very well made, but the lines of it were just so dang cute. It got the transfer treatment with the My Heart transfer:
The My Heart transfer has pink flowers in the middle of it, but to make it fit this piece better, I cut those out and instead used them to embellish the top drawer:
The pink is Conch from the Silk paint line.
See more of this dresser and how I altered the transfer to fit the front HERE.

Next up is this well-worn vintage stool I found at the back of the garage at an estate sale for the low low price of only ONE dollar!
These are may favorite finds by far! The abused, neglected pieces that nobody else sees value in. ALWAYS check out the garage at estate sales! You’ll be surprised at what you find sometimes!
This one got a lot of sanding and filling and then a couple of coats my favorite summertime green, Farmhouse Green, followed by the leftovers of a pretty transfer I had in my stash:
It turned out so cute, right?
If only this stool could talk…I bet it is so happy to have a chance to shine again!
See all the details of this one HERE.

Next up on the countdown is a two-parter. This desk/dressing table is one that one of my sweet neighbors from our old neighborhood was getting rid of:
She reached out to see if I was interested, and indeed I was! I went over and picked it up right away. She had decided to keep the mirror, but later passed that along to me as well.
I decided to have a little fun giving this one a girly makeover using Pink Champagne paint and this pretty Flower Child transfer:
The drawers got some transfer love too…
Then, on the very same day that I shared this makeover, I found this gem at the thrift store for $6.98:
I decided to make it over to match!
This stool got some paint, a new vinyl seat, and a bit of transfer also to bring it all together:
I loved this sweet and funky set!
See the desk makeover HERE. See the stool makeover HERE.

At number six in our countdown is another piece that a neighbor was getting rid of. I love when my neighbors think of me!!
This is one of three pieces she was getting rid of, this gorgeous French provincial dresser:
She had painted this and the longer one to match for her daughter, but no longer needed them.
It was a decent enough paint job, but she must have used a nappy roller because it really needed smoothed out.
After a bunch of sanding, a couple of coats of Anchor, and this gorgeous Somewhere in France transfer, this dresser was completely transformed!
Now y’all know I love white paint, but there is just something so elegant about black painted furniture!
Once again, I used a silkscreen stencil to add more unique detail…
My niece claimed this one right away! Then, I had a local reader friend who asked if I could paint the longer dresser that I got with this one in the very same way, and I was happy to!
See this full makeover HERE and see the longer verison HERE!

This next one was a big favorite, mostly because little people pieces are so cute anyway!
I started with this night table in pretty nice condition that I picked up for $20:
I decided to have fun with a custom pink mix and the Hello Baby transfer for this one:
Stripes for the side…
I love this sweet transfer so much!
See more of this sweet night table HERE, and check out the sweetest rocker I used other parts of this transfer on HERE!
4
At number four is this vintage side table I picked up for $18.75:
Y’all always love the Steel Magnolia pieces! This lovely metallic is so elegant!
Topped with this gorgeous Blossom Botanica transfer, it really shines!
The drawers got prettied up too with a little Tea Rose paint…
See all the details of this makeover HERE!

Transfers for the win this year for sure! This is another piece embellished with a transfer, but in an unexpected way!
Would you believe I only paid $32 for this hutch?? It was priced at $40, and I had a full punch card that gave me another 20% off:
I grabbed the tag on this thing so fast!
This one got new beadboard panels to replace the glass and a silk paint makeover in Salt Water:
No distressing this time, but the real beauty of this hutch came from the transfer I added to the inside and the fin mini check fabric on the back of the door panels:
This is an older transfer that I don’t carry, but it fit perfecly inside the top of this hutch:
I would display it with the doors wide open just like this!
See the whole tranformation including what I did in place of sanding to prep for Silk paint HERE.

Just two pieces left in the countdown! Number two is this empire dresser that my friend’s boyfriend was looking to get rid of:
It took me a while to get to this one because it had all the things wrong with it!
I finally tackled it this fall and gave it all the love it needed to shine again, including Caviar paint and a combination of transfers:
What was once so dark and heavy, is so much lighter feeling and much more balanced.
The drawers shine now too!
This was definitely a favorite of mine also!
See this whole transformation from start to finish HERE!

And finally, your favorite makeover of this year will probably come as no surprise as it was also my favorite Furniture Fixer Upper of the year as well!
It started as this pretty dresser that was given to me:
I reimagined this one with a custom paint mix and this stunning Vigorous Violet transfer:
I was so tickled with how this one turned out!
See all the details on this one including what paint colors I used HERE.
I get so much joy out of seeing these pieces come back to life!

First, Happy New Year. It’s hard to pick a favorite because there is not one I don’t love but if I had to choose it would be No. 3; the hutch. Looking forward to what you have for us this new year.
Christy says
Happy New Year, Janice! I love the hutch too and my sister’s MIL ended up with it, so I get to see it anytime I like woohoo! XOXO
Janette says
I love seeing the way you transform each piece, you don’t just throw paint on and thats it!!!!!! its a whole wonderful process and the furniture shows it. I love that you don’t always chop feet off and that kind of stuff, so many wonderful results. I look forward to your weekly mail to see what amazing thing you have tackled now.
I hope you have a wonderful new year.xx
Christy says

Christy, I loved looking at your top 13. I had missed the one with your son’s furniture delivery. You were so brave to apply glaze to a new piece! Please tell me what sheen the DB white wash glaze gives a piece of furniture that has first been painted with DB mineral or chalk paint. I can’t find it in any description. Thanks and I am looking forward to your next haul to watch you work your magic.
Christy says
Thank you Kim! I’m glad there was a new one in there for you! The sheen on the glazes is satin. 🙂 XOXO

How fun to see all these pieces again. I personally like the dressers that are black! The lavender one is just elegant and that sweet little pink one with the bunny makes me smile everytime!! Happy to see them all again. Happy 2023. It’ll be fun to spend another year with you seeing what new things you can do with the furniture pieces you find.

Anytime lavender is involved it catches my eye so I love the dresser. I still want to do a piece in Steel Magnolia – as you said – elegant.

Joanne H. says
Thanks for the walk back through the best of 2022 transformations. They are all amazing but my biggest ooooohhhh was the hello baby side table and second the caviar empire dresser. Excited to see what you transform in 2023. Have a great year.
Christy says
My pleasure, Joanne! Thank you! The pink side table is still in my booth, surprisingly, but the empire dresser found a new home before Christmas woohoo! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! XOXO
