Hello, beautiful friends! I’m back with round two of the best of 2022! This time, I’m sharing the top non-furniture makeovers from the past year!
Remember these??
I linked to the original posts for each at the bottom of each makeover if you’d like to see more.
Enjoy!
13 Fantastic Thrifty Makeovers
13
Starting this countdown at number 13 is this box that originally held teas that I picked up at the thrift store for $5:
This plain box got a pretty new look with paint, the Rare Birds mini Transfer, and new feet and hardware:
The inside got this gorgeous pop of Dusty Blue:
See more of this sweet box HERE.
12
Next up is this dated shelf that I also picked up for $5 at the thrift store:
It was that wavy piece that was dating this one for me, so I whacked it off, but then ended up reattaching it in a different way:
Cotton white paint, the addition of bead board and a few hooks, and a transfer from the Classic Vintage Labels transfer set really gave this piece a fresh, updated feel!
See more of this pretty shelf HERE!

At number 11 on the list is another box makeover…this flatware box I found for the unbelievably low price of only $1.38!!
I loved the curves on the front and grabbed it right up!
I used one of Dixie Belle’s decoupage papers, Floral Ballerina to give it a fabulous new look, along with some nailhead detail:
I used glass knobs for feet and gave the inside a sophisticated new look as well…
See more of this upcycled box HERE!

Next up is actually a smalls post. These usually get a lot of love, but y’all really liked this one.
I shared the mini makeovers of these six items:
I’m not exactly sure which mini redo you enjoyed most, but I’m guessing it was this trash can…
that I turned into a lamp shade:
I was so excited it worked out so well!
Or, it possibly could have been this mini teapot:
A mini transfer turned it into the cutest mini teapot ever:
This one is from the Classic Vintage Labels set also.
See what I did with the other four pieces in this smalls post HERE!

Number nine in this countdown is this very hotel-esque headboard that I paid $3 for many years ago:
This was actually makeover number two for this headboard. I had brought home several items from my booth that hadn’t sold to give them a new look, and this was one of those pieces:
Using a clock stencil gave it the look of a large clock, although it doesn’t actually function as one.
See more of this makeover and the FIRST makeover that didn’t sell HERE.

This next project started out as this set of lamps I picked up for $10 a piece at the thrift store:
I was lucky enough to find two shades in my stash that were very similar:
The lamps were given a simple whitewash glaze treatment while the shades were updated with this gorgeous Antique Damask transfer:
The original color of the lamps with a little whitewashing blended with the shades perfectly!
See more on how I added a transfer to these lampshades HERE.
7
Next up is this small hanging wall decor piece that I found at the thrift store:
I paired it with a small cigar box that I altered to fit the front to create a pocket:
It turned out so cute! This is another Classic Vintage Labels mini transfer and it was just perfect for the front of this piece!
You could swap out the greenery seasonally, and I had considered keeping this one, but my mom claimed it right away!
See how this cutie pie came together HERE.
6
I had to grab this next piece for $6 since I already knew it could be a really cute cabinet with the clock removed:
I’ve redone another very similar in the past HERE. This one got a much different look though with this lovely Sea Glass color and the Mystic Hydrangea mini transfer:
Of course, the insides got some love too…

At number five in today’s countdown is another lamp makeover! I found this set of lamps at the thrift store for $5 each:
I’m always excited when I find a set of lamps for a decent price because lamps sell well for me, especially in sets!
This set got a brand new look with Manatee Gray paint and white wax, but what y’all really liked was what I did with the shades I found for this set!
The originals weren’t really inspiring me in any way, so I set out to replace them. Except, if you haven’t priced lampshades recently, they are absurdly overpriced!
So, I set out to find cheaper replacements and came across this set at the thrift store for $6.75 each:
The shape was perfect, but the red, not so much.
I removed the fabric altogether and replaced them with this pretty patterned fabric (curtain panel) I already had in my stash!
They look totally legit!
See how I did it HERE!
4
Number four is this CD holder I got for half off of $5.75 at the thrift store:
With a little DIY magic and this lovely fresh, Farmhouse Green color, it turned into this totally functional tote:
It’s sweet holding these hydrangeas, but with the divider in the center, it could be used for so much more!

At number three is this spindle footboard that I repurposed back in March:
I almost included this one in my furniture countdown, but I ended up turning it into this super cute shelf, so technically, it’s non-furniture, right?
I loved this one so much! The wooden knobs got these mini knob transfers:
See how I built this shelf from this footboard HERE.
2
We’re almost done, just two more pieces left! Number two is this ugly duckling tea kettle the thrift store was asking $2.95 for:
I knew it could make a fun arrangement when I spied it and that is exactly what I did with it:
I used the mini transfer, Botanical Paradise for the front and then gave the back a different look with a Classic Vintage Labels mini transfer
This was one of my personal favorites as well!

And finally, the number one non-furniture makeover of this year is this vintage sewing box I found at the thrift store for $10:
I gave this one a completely updated look with the French Ceramics Transfer:
The insides got a pretty new look also with the help of a couple of Silk paint colors:
See all the details on this one HERE.
I enjoy transforming these smaller pieces just as much, if not more, than the furniture! I hope y’all enjoy them too!
And those are my top non-furniture makeovers of 2022!

All of the items came out wonderfully, but of course I am partial to the third place project. 😉 Even though it was beyond hope as a bed I am so glad you were able to give it new life and new purpose for someone to enjoy!

It’s so fun to look back over the favorite “smalls” and non furniture makeovers you’ve done. So many are my favorites too. The tea kettles, the flatware boxes always are a favorite. But I really like the sewing box makeover as well.
I am looking forward to seeing and reading about all your 2023 creations.
Christy says
Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing these again, Joanne! I really enjoy the boxes too, and the kettle was a fun one to do! XOXO
