Hello lovelies!! I’m back today with a round up of my basket makeovers!
Baskets are another thing I always look for at thrift stores. They are so functional and I just love to paint them! There are 16 in all. Now most of these are white, but I’ve added other little embellishments here and there to give them personality!
Enjoy!
16
Up first is a super oldie! I redid this basket back in 2015:
A little FrogTape and spray paint to the rescue! I still have this in our guest bath holding TP:
The shells add a fun, coastal feel.
15
Next up is this basket my friend, Shanna from Restoration Redoux, sent me for one of our Swap it Like it’s Hot Challenges:
I decided to cover this one in fabric!
14
This next basket is one of the biggest baskets I’ve redone.
It got a similar striped paint treatment as the first one! This was taken in our old living room:
13
I redid this basket for a decorating challenge using baskets to decorate for Spring:
A small chalkboard sign and some pretty faux Camellias were perfect for a Spring makeover:
12
When we first moved to our new house, this set of picnic baskets got a redo:
These were spray painted also and got a few embellishments:
The top one got an old drawer pull and the bottom one got a set of wheels I had saved from furniture piece:
I don’t mis those red floors in our dining room at all. I use the bottom basket to stage photos all the time, most recently here:
They live in our living room and hold some of Brennan’s toys.
11
These next two baskets got a quick makeover for one of my Painting the Smalls posts:
I currently have them stacked on our built-ins in the living room:

For these next two baskets, I shared how I lined them with fabric:
The first one got a striped makeover:
And the inside:
It also got a key and a little tag I made from scrap luan:

And the second one got a sweet stencil:
I added one on the inside too:

I tried to flog this next basket at my yard sale for a dollar, but no takers!
I added it to my Yard Sale Rescue Pile and gave it some much-needed love:
7
This next little basket was only 50¢ at a yard sale, so I had to buy it:
I painted this one and gave it a little tag also:
And it got a pretty new fabric liner:
6
I kept this next basket:
It is perfect for stashing remotes!
It too got a fun tag for some added personality.

I love these older picnic baskets…
This one was updated with paint and a transfer that I added to the top:

Up next is this cool basket I picked up for only 99¢:
I ended up using this for a Fall tour I did with some fellow blog friends and gave it a Fall makeover:

How about this lovely specimen:
I loved the shape of it, but not so much the doodad on the front. I painted it and gave it a new kind of doodad:

I shared this next basket along with my sweater pumpkins from sleeves tutorial:
I used a lace curtain and spray paint to give the top a unique pattern:
And those super cute sweater pumpkins fill the basket insert that goes inside:

I kept that insert. These larger picnic baskets are still in my booth. I guess not many people have picnics these days and they don’t really know what else to do with them. I love them to store all kinds of things. Every last pumpkin sold though!

And finally this one…
I didn’t do a whole post on this one, but I shared it when I shared this $25 China Cabinet Makeover:
I just love a white painted basket, as you can see! If you like a really worn look like on this one, give it only paint one coat of paint and then sand like crazy!
The larger picnic baskets may not sell well for me, but the smaller ones all go pretty quickly!
I’m so glad y’all stopped by today!
I’ll be back on Thursday with an old favorite, this hutch I scored for only $60:
UPDATE: See it HERE now!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

I love baskets! I’ve only used chalk paint on baskets. If I paint a piece of furniture will it have that rough feeling or does the wax smooth it? I didn’t wax the baskets.
Christy says
Chalk paint does have that chalky texture to it, but when using it on furniture pieces, do you want to lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper after painting and you will get a super smooth surface. XO

Hope you are enjoying your vacation and get to visit a LOT with family. Love all the baskets! I have a very large basket in the living room that I keep a stash of throws in; the old picnic baskets hold my sewing stuff and patterns. They look cute on an open shelf; will always pick those up if I ever find them. Thanks for taking the time to post!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Mary! We are really enjoying our week together so far! It sounds like you use baskets a lot like I do. They are so versatile! Enjoy the rest of your week! XOXO

I have a sweet little picnic basket my aunt, who recently passed away, gave me when I was a child. The hinges rusted and discolored part of the wood. Thanks for the wonderful ideas to give it new life!
Christy says
Aww what a sweet reminder of her! XO
carol says
Have you ever rescued a round vintage basket with the entire bottom missing? My husband thought I was crazy to buy a basket with no bottom but the shape is classic shaker type.
Christy says
No, I haven’t, but I wonder if you could add a thin piece of wood to fit the bottom?
Angela says
Hello Christy,
Your creations are breathtaking. I was about to throw out this basket today and then I happened to see what you did with the 16 baskets !! The bassiner shape is a little odd- it was a baby shower container for gifts. What do you think? Thank you so much!
PS i don’t know how to send the pic …. sorry😔
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Angela!! I would start with a coat of paint! It’s amazing what a little paint can do! XOXO

Hello Christy.
It’s so amazing how those baskets transformed into something pretty and functional after giving them some love, nice paint, crisp fabric liner and cutesy tag for overall effect.
As someone who loves paints and colors, I love how you’re being consistent with color choices you’ve used in your makeovers. They all look cool and exquisite. Good job and looking forward to more pretty makeovers.
Christy says
Thank you!
