Hi beautiful friends, and welcome to the first day of August! Where did July go??
I’m really enjoying my little break this week. Luckily I have a ton of content that gets shared once only to be buried in my project gallery, so this is a great time to reshare a few of those old favorites. Today I’m pulling out an oldie from 2015!
But first, I am pleased to announce that I finally have a winner for my latest CRAFT JUNK giveaway! My first winner did not respond, so I had to draw again when I got back yesterday. Congratulations to the winner from Belle Fourche, SD! She has already been notified and her package is on the way! I’ll do another giveaway in the Fall. 🙂
Today I’m resharing this dressing table that I picked up at an estate sale for $25:
Ooh, nice. No, it really wasn’t was it? I’m not sure I would pay $25 for it now because I’m so cheap, but I probably needed inventory at the time.
A little French Linen chalk paint by Annie Sloan helped to bring this cutie back to life…
So much better!
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Here is the desk in progress with a shot of the chair before:
I picked the chair up on this lucky day when I was playing hooky from my Mom’s bedroom set makeover and stopped by a few of my favorite thrift stores:
Can you find it in there?
I really only picked it up because it was only $5 and I figured I could use the spindles for something. It was very petite…which was the perfect size for this petite dressing table!
Funny how that worked out. It now looks like a perfectly matched set.
To paint the chair, I used my favorite white spray paint to paint all but the seat. I probably used Behr’s Ultra Pure White made into DIY chalk paint to paint the base of the table. Today I would have done the same with the chair, but used Cotton for the table.
I decided to paint just the top of the table and the seat of the chair in the French Linen…
A good match to this color in Dixie Belle is Driftwood. I love it even more mixed with a little Cotton. Today I would have sealed with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in satin or Gator Hide if I wanted super durable protection for the top.
And I’m not missing the sponge-painted stars at all, are you?
I found these pretty knobs at HomeGoods:
I sanded with 220 grit sandpaper220 grit sandpaper where the stars were so the texture wouldn’t show through after painting.
Have you ever sponge-painted anything? My old roommate and I sponge painted our bathroom twenty-five years ago and we thought it was gorgeous!
The inside of this table had yellowed a bit with age:
I sprayed it before starting on the rest with a couple of coats of white spray paint…
Good as new! I usually line the inside of drawers when I make over a piece, but I figured this would probably get all gunked up with makeup, and this plain painted surface would be easier to clean.
And how about the rest of the inside?
I spotted this mirror at a thrift store for $4. The original mirror was broken off and was rectangular, but this one worked out perfectly. I attached it with mirror adhesive and added the silver flowery doodads for a little extra support.
This little starry-sponge-painted dressing table got a little more sophisticated!
This would work perfectly in a coastal-inspired bedroom, a shabby chic bedroom, or anything in between!
Was this one you had seen before? I forgot all about this one, but I just love this subtle color combo.
Have an amazing weekend and I’ll see y’all on Tuesday with this headboard:

I remember when you did that piece, and just as I remember was a beautiful job as usual!! You are so lucky that you find such great pieces that go together like they were meant to be. Enjoy the rest of the time with your boys!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I had forgotten all about this one…this was a lucky match for sure! I am really enjoying my free time, thanks! XOXO

It may be an oldie but it’s a goodie. I don’t remember seeing this but it was probably before I started following you. Love both the chair and dressing table. Still in style for sure. Hope you are having a good break because you deserve it. Loved the pic at the wedding Tues also.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! It’s fun to look back at older projects…I had forgotten all about this one. I am really enjoying the break…thank you! And I’m glad you enjoyed the wedding pics…we had a ball! XOXO

I’ve spent hours (when I was supposed to be doing other things) in your project gallery but never saw this one. Love it!
Christy says
Aww…I love that you took the time to check out my older projects. Sometimes I wonder if anyone ever looks through the gallery. Glad this one was new to you! XOXO

I have a similar piece I bought at Goodwill for $10. It was a kid’s vanity table (Top was in pretty bad shape with stickers and nail polish!) with separate mirror on the back. Hubby sanded and refinished the top but after seeing your makeover, I may redo it entirely, now! I also have a nice, “petite” (antique?) chair (*Found it beside a dumpster-FREE!!!!) that I pair with it.
Christy says
Oh awesome! Glad I could offer some inspiration for yours! Nothing beats free…nice score!! XOXO

Much, much better! A great transformation from a young teen vanity to a young lady’s! I love the mirror shape and the subtle colors. My only problem would be keeping stuff off the top so i could use the mirror and cubbies!
Christy says
Thank you, Gwen! Ha ha that would be an issue for me too! XOXO

I’m new to your site and love your make-overs! I’m curious if there a way to watch your videos without an ad every 15 seconds?
Christy says
Thank you, Kristina! I usually include the YouTube link as well and there are no ads there. I just added the YouTube links to my Video Gallery. 🙂 XO

Enjoy your break and bring on the reruns – it is summer, after all! I always forget the older projects, so it’s like seeing them for the first time. Love the driftwood look on this one.
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie!! I might just extend this little break…it has been so nice! XOXO

❤️❤️❤️ how you thought to incorporate a mirror—and a beveled one at that!—with this piece.

Thank you, Ashley! XOXO

I had not seen this project be-ore and I love it! I like the color combination a lot. And the table turned out to be SO elegant, especially with the new knobs. A great piece with it’s matching little chair. Did it sell right away? Or did you keep it?
Christy says
Thank you, Naomi! I’m glad this was a new one for you! It sold pretty quickly. 🙂 XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says

Nice job giving this little lady a facelift! I am officially retired as of today! I had furniture stored where I worked and have been moving the junk to several places for temporary storage. Now that I am retired, I have no excuse for not painting these treasures. I look forward to seeing your posts and other DIY’ers for the motivation, new ideas, and techniques. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia, and CONGRATULATIONS!!! Sounds like you have a few things to keep you busy! XOXO
Constance Colvin says
Hey Christy! Can I just say that I never look at your posts without feeling a little ummm
slow! I don’t think I’ve actually met anyone as productive as you!! I’ll be admiring one of your redos and then bam! I’ll see that you’ve lined it with fabric or recovered the inside of a drawer with mod podged tissue paper! Just so awesome! Tell me, how much time do you spend a day working on your projects? I’d love to know ;-D
Christy says
Aww you are so funny! I do treat my projects like a full time job, but this week’s makeovers are brought to you from the past…yep reruns! Enjoying a little break this week! XOXO
