Hello amazing Friends! I have a sweet little makeover for y’all today!
You may remember this lamp makeover I shared back in February:
Unfortunately someone must have knocked it over while it was in my booth and it smashed, however they did save the shade for me.
Then a couple of weeks ago I found this lamp at the thrift store:
The same exact lamp only in a different pattern! This one was missing its shade so it was perfect!
When I went to redo this one though, the burlap shade didn’t really do it for me, so instead I dressed up a plain white one:
I painted the body with two coats of DIY chalk paint in may favorite white: Behr’s Bit of Sugar. (Recipe HERE.) Then I used FrogTape to tape off a few stripes…
I painted them in with two coats of Dixie Belle’s Driftwood. I pulled the tape ofimmediately following the second coat.
I lightly sanded the details and sealed with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax.
The shade is one I bought at Home Depot last year to use on another lamp, but never did. It fit perfectly and so much better with the colors I chose than the burlap one did.
It was a bit plain so I decided to dress it up with some simple rag rosettes. I usually make them with dropcloth, but I needed these to be white, so I found some of the fabric leftover from slip-covering our sectional (See that HERE.) and it was perfect for the job!
Here is basically all you need to make your own rag rosettes:
I shared a video tutorial on how to make these HERE.
Then I just hot glued them to my shade.
I think it turned out pretty cute!
My antique serpentine dresser I shared on Thursday was perfect for staging this sweet lamp! Visit that makeover HERE if you missed it.
Here is a peek of the cute little feet on the bottom…
Much better than the brown zebra, eh?
Or maybe your wild side really liked the brown zebra?? 😀
I’ll be back here on Thursday sharing more smalls! These six pieces are all finished and ready for the shop:
To my friends in the US, have a fun and safe 4th of July!! 🙂
UPDATE: Come check out how these smalls got new attitudes HERE now!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

Wow, that turned out so cute, what a transformation!! I love your blog, and your imagination. I think every thing you do is beautiful, never let anyone tell you any different. Looking forward to the smalls recreations, I have a pair of candlesticks just like the ones in the picture, so I will especially be glad for ideas for them.

Bonnie Hipps says
The other one was cute but, I love love this one. Maybe it is what you did with the shade. Happy safe 4th and can’t wait to see those smalls
Christy says
Aww yay! I kinda love this one too. Maybe the burlap shade was a bit heavy fo the other one as well. Enjoy your 4th! XOXO
Claudine says
I’m sad that the little crab company lamp smashed! 🙁 That was adorable. I do love this makeover too, the rosettes are so sweet!
Christy says
I was too, Claudine, thank you! I will put this one in a safer spot in my booth for sure! XO

So, so cute Christy! I LOVE your blog and have learned so much from it. I went over and watched the video of you making the rag rosettes and I am excited to try them! Thanks so much for sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Betty! I appreciate that so much, and I’m thrilled to have you following along with me! Glad you found the tutorial helpful…those rosettes can be added to so many different things! XOXO
Sheila DelCharco says
Wen I saw this lamp I immediately thought of the crab one and thought you had painted this one to match. I was shocked that the other one was smashed! No “you break, you buy”?? Looking forward to the smalls post! You inspire me so!
Christy says
It would have been nice to have a set of them, and I’m guessing the person who broke the other one probably didn’t alert anyone. That is the first item I believe that has gotten broken while in my booth in the several years I’ve been there so I didn’t stress over it too much. Thanks, Sheila! See ya on Thursday! XOXO
Denise says
You are so darn crafty my friend… it’s friggin adorable! 🙂
Christy says
Aww thanks, Denise!! I’m so glad you like it, my friend! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
How funny that you found the same lamp, Christy! The burlap shade looked great on the other lamp, but the fancy shade works better with this lamp update. The dresser is so beautiful, both it and the lamp are going to fly out of the booth. (Great news on the kids table and chairs, too!)
Christy says
I know, right? And yep I thought the burlap shade was a bit heavy looking on this lamp…glad I never returned that white one to the Home Depot lol. I knew I’d eventually use it! Thank you, Marcie!! XOXO
Kimberly says
So cute. I recently painted a lamp, and I love it but have decided that it really doesn’t go with the room I wanted it in. Time for more paint! That’s the beauty of DIY.
Can’t wait to see the smalls. They really get my creativity going when you show them.
Christy says
Thanks, Kimberly! Yep…if you no longer love it, paint it again! See ya on Thursday! XOXO
Ruth Anne Buterbaugh says
Such a great makeover! Sorry I haven’t commented in quite a while–something went awry in my settings. I always enjoy your clever makeovers and projects! Thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Ruth Anne! I’m so glad to hear from you again! XOXO

Trina Price says
Great job on the lamp girlie! Happy 4th to you and your adorable family.
Christy says
Thank you, Trina! Happy 4th to you too! 🙂 XO
MaryJean says
I can see that the burlap lampshade would not go with the way you painted this lamp. It’s so cool you found another lamp just like the crab one. Sorry to hear it broke. It was my inspiration. I love this one also! Happy 4th to you and your family! New York state has allowed what they call “safe” fireworks now. Prior it was only sparklers.
Christy says
Thanks, Mary Jean! I was surprised too to find another lamp just like the first! We usually buy a box of the kiddie “fireworks” and make a bog ole mess with them in the driveway! I hope you enjoy your 4th also, my friend! XOXO
Julie Briones says
That is adorable! Someone is going to FLIP over that, and place it in their sweet little Parisian bedroom (or something like that! 😉 )
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! XO
Jennifer says
Great stuff. Love your ideas. Have you ever tried chalk paint on a velvet sofa. I have a project im too afraid to start. Need some help. Thanks jen (ireland)
Christy says
Thank you, Jennifer! I have not tried chalk paint on fabric of any kind actually, so unfortunately I don’t have any experience to advise you. This article is a good place to start though: https://themagicbrushinc.com/paintingvelvet/ Best of luck to you! XO
