Hello dear friends! You know I love y’all…I truly do, but I am sneaking in one more week off before I get back to business. Not to worry though, I have another oldie but goodie from 2016 to share today. I chose this one because it seems like all I do with the headboards I find is make benches out of them, but that wasn’t the case with this one.
This headboard came from one of my all-time favorite thrift stores for a mere $4.95:
There was no way I wasn’t jumping on that deal! There are just so many possibilities! {See how I repurposed 10 more headboards HERE.}
This one got a pretty simple update:
Do you remember this one? I loved the large graphic so much that I used it in my blog’s header image.
Cutting off the legs and adding hooks made this a perfect place to hang coats or towels.
To cut off the legs, I used my old miter saw (I have this sliding one now.):
After painting the headboard with DIY chalk paint in Ultra Pure White by Behr (Equivalent to Dixie Belle’s Cotton), I used a large clock stencil to add a bold graphic:
I found this stencil HERE, but it seems they no longer carry the larger version. (If anyone is interested, maybe they would be willing to cut the larger if requested?)
I sprayed Loctite spray adhesive to the back of the stencil to hold it in place. Then I used black acrylic craft paint from Delta and a small brush to fill in the stencil.
This headboard had a lot of blank space to fill and I think the addition of the clock worked out well here.
But you know what I did? I added the stencil and was so happy with how it looked except something just didn’t seem right about it. It turns out I had stenciled it with nine o’clock at the top on the first go…oopsie! I had to sand it and it repaint, then add the stencil again correctly!
The words in the center weren’t part of the original stencil. I added them for a bit more interest…
The original stencil also had breaks in the circles, but I filled them in. I sealed this piece with clear wax, but would probably use Clear Coat in satin if I were to make this now.
These hooks from Hobby Lobby finished it off and added function…
This one didn’t last long in my shop!
I just love how this dark and dated headboard became fresh new updated décor!
This was the project I shared after this one…how I repurposed this 99¢ thrift store CD holder:
You can see what I did with it HERE!
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Christy says
I’m so glad you are enjoying the reruns, Mary! Thank you for always being so supportive and encouraging!! XOXO
Jeanie says
Your work is just beautiful. I’m wondering about the saw. Where do i get one and is it heavy?
Christy says
Thank you, Jeanie! The saw I used it a miter saw. The one I have now is this one: https://amzn.to/2YOI3XI I like this one because it is a sliding miter saw which means when you pull the saw down to cut, and you can slide it towards you, cutting widths up to 12″. It is a great saw to have as there is so much you can do with the simple cuts it makes. It is a bit heavy, but I have mine on a wood “dolly” on wheels I built so I could move it in and out of the garage easily. You can see a photo of it in this post:https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/antique-headboard-turned-bench/

May I ask, where you got that stencil?
Thxs,

Christy says
Hey Beth! Sure…I found it HERE however, it seems they no longer carry the larger version. Maybe they would be willing to cut one if requested? XO

I was fully expecting another of your beautiful seats but I love this too. You always surprise me. LOVE it!
Christy says
Yep, that is usually what I do with them, but this one was missing the footboard, so I decided to have a little fun with it. So glad you like it! Thank you! XOXO
