I’m about as bad about mirrors as I am about picnic baskets! I really have a hard time passing them up when I see a good deal since they can work in just about any space and are usually good sellers for me. I’ve shared a couple in the past few months and sweet friends, today I have another!
This beauty was only $6.25:
However, it wasn’t without its flaws. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
You might be able to see in the photo above that some of the leaf detail was missing on the left side, as well as some parts on the right side as well:
So I did what any sane person would do and took a hammer and chisel to it:
I’ll admit it kinda broke my heart to get rid of that ornate detail in the center. I was hoping to be able to remove it and reuse it later on something else but unfortunately, it broke away in pieces so I wasn’t able to save it.
I had to fill in a few areas with wood filler where I gouged the wood, and then I sanded it smooth with my rotary sander:
And then…
TADA!
I created a mirror to match the desk I shared on Thursday, and now it’s a lovely dressing table!
Actually, according to a sweet reader, it was once a dressing table that had a three-part mirror attached. The reason it sat so low is because it had a small bench seat with it. I love it when you guys can fill in the gaps for me! (Thank you, Ivana!)
Isn’t this mirror a lovely addition?
I was actually hoping to get it completed before sharing the table on Thursday, but I didn’t quite get it finished in time. If you missed it, you can see how I added several inches of height to it HERE!
This is the French Ceramics transfer by Prima Marketing, and it went on just as easily on this piece as it did on the drawers. See how easy it was to do in the original desk post HERE.
I started by using the Dixie Belle Boss in white to block bleed-through since it worked so nicely on the desk, and I knew that cherry wood would bleed for sure:
I let it dry overnight, but unfortunately, I still had a couple minor of areas bleed. I decided to follow up with a quick spray of Rustoleum’s clear matte spray on those few areas and then waited about an hour and that did the trick. I used my go-to DIY chalk paint made with Bit of Sugar by Behr.
I flipped the frame over and primed with the Boss, then painted the groove where the mirror sits also so it would reflect white when I put the mirror back in.
I only used one and a half sheets of the transfer on the drawers, so I was able to use the third piece to complete the mirror.
Just like on the drawers, I sealed it with a coat of Dixie Belle’s Satin clear coat. I also sealed the rest of the mirror the same way.
This set just might be my favorite makeover!
It was a tough one to drop off at my booth! If you’re local, it’s for sale! 😀
I figured y’all wouldn’t mind seeing another project using these beautiful transfers! 🙂
That’s one more project down, just a few to go:
Here are all the makeovers in this haul so far if you’ve missed any:

I’ll be back on Thursday sharing what I did with this picture:
See ya then!

Absolutely beautiful! When I first saw the mirror (the “before”) I felt sad because I thought it was so beautiful the way it was. But you did a spectacular job and I think it is wonderfuly reimagined and so much more current in feel!
Two thoughts: If it hadn’t been made to go with your desk and make a vanity unit, I think it would have been nice to do some blue paint to highlight the raised edges around the mirror. But since your desk is just white with the transfer, the mirror goes with it perfectly.
And secondly I think you could have used wrapping papers, or even left over wallpapers to do what you did with the transfer.I have a small stash of leftover papers that I have used in many ways ( my favorite is lining boxes or small shelf units) and there are So many patterns that give so many different looks that could have been used on this mirror. Just trying to give your readers different options 🙂
Again, what a wonderful transformation! I really enjoy seeing your “Haul” of items to redo, then seeing as you get them done!
Christy says
Thank you, Shelley! I’m so glad you like the outcome and seeing me work through each haul. It keeps me on track for sure! Thanks for the suggestions too! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
I just flipped when I saw what you did with the mirror!! I wasn’t expecting this at all!! LOVE IT!! I was curious why you chose this mirror instead of the yellow one? It is perfect but just wondering if there was a particular thought floating around in your head. You are the bomb, girl!! XOXO
Christy says
Ha ha I’m so thrilled you like it, Cecilia, thank you! I chose this one because the yellow one was a bit too tall and narrow. 🙂 XOXO

I wanted to let you know that the makeover of the desk and mirror are stunning. You did a fantastic job of making it modern but still with the old feel.
Thanks for the idea,
Shirley
Christy says

Marcie Lovett says
No, no, not the medallion! I figured you’d whack off the other pieces, but not that center piece. But then you wouldn’t have been able to use that fabulous transfer to accentuate those curves. So it all worked out and yes, this one did surprise me!
Christy says
I know…SO sad to see the medallion go! I did it thinking it would come off in one piece and I would be able to add to something else down the road, but it busted into pieces boohoo! Ah well it wasn’t to be. Thanks, Marcie! XOXO
Ivana Carmon says

Cindy says
Hi Christy,
When you put the mirrors back in their frames, do you use window putty, or silicone or regular paintable caulking? I have a mirror I’d like to repaint, and it is held in with metal points and very old brittle putty. I was told the only window putty should be used when re-seating the mirror, but was wondering what you use.
Christy says
Hi Cindy! I use a point driver that shoots those little metal points in to secure the mirror. They aren’t cheap though, so if you only need it for one mirror, I would go with the putty. XO
