Amazing friends, welcome to Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday!! I make over stuff that looks like trash all the time, but it is so much more fun when I have friends joining in on the fun!! Be sure to look for links to their trashy makeovers at the bottom!
Okay so in all fairness, mine is actually not very trashy. I thought it was kind of cute actually:
What really drew me to this little table though was the $6.25 price tag! This particular Goodwill has a really small area for furniture, so they price it super cheap…as you will also see when I get to the two chairs in my Fall haul! This is also where I got this gorgeous dressing table for only $30! Usually most of their furniture is cheaply made or in very poor condition.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
This one has a laminate top and I’m not even sure the rest is real wood, honestly. Because the top is laminate, I went ahead and gave the top a good sanding with 220 grit sandpaper to give it some tooth for the paint to grip onto just in case. Normally, with real wood, there is no need to sand prior. (You could also use Slick Stick if you have a larger piece that will get a ton of use.) I gave the whole piece three coats of Dixie Belle’s Pink Champagne. Then I used my favorite Frogtape to add a fun detail to the inset of the drawer:
Were you expecting pink??
I still had this color sitting out on my worktable from when I used it on these headboards and thought it would be a pretty change from the original yellow.
I love this pretty soft pink. I think it gave this piece a whole new feel.
I sealed with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in Satin using their blue sponge applicator:
See how easy it is to use the sponge to seal in this video:
As always, use the code: FREESHIP50 at checkout in my shop to get free shipping on all orders over $50. Any orders under $50 are $8 flat rate shipping.
Ya’ll know I love stripes and they work especially well in a kid’s space which is where I imagine this sweet table will end up.
This knob came off of another piece:
I lined the drawer with this wallpaper I’ve had for years:
I just attached it with a glue stick.
I’ve used this cute horse to stage before, but I don’t think I’ve ever shared this quick makeover…
I found it for $1.98 and it started out like this:
I didn’t even realize that it was missing its tail when I bought it! As an easy fix, I cut several strands of twine to the same length and gathered them at one end with a rubber band. That was enough to hold it securely in the tail hole. And here is a photo of a horse’s hind parts:
Cute though, right? It was painted in three coats of Cotton. It makes for a sweet photo prop!
Don’t forget to check out what my friends are sharing today too!
Only a set of mirrors and a set of chairs left!!

In other news…my blog is getting a brand new design! I haven’t changed my theme since I started blogging seven years ago and it is SO overdue. I just bought my new theme on Monday and I’m not sure exactly when the magic will take place, but hopefully there won’t be much downtime involved.
I’m hoping to be back on Thursday with these mirrors:
UPDATE: No need to wait, dear friends! See how these mirrors look in our master bedroom HERE now!
See y’all then!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

I love how that turned out, so fresh and pretty. I am excited to see what you do with the mirrors, I love the shape of them. Every thing you do turns out so beautiful!!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Mary! I have had those mirrors in my stash since the last house…I’ll be happy to finally have done something with them! XOXO
Larissa ~ Prodigal Pieces says
It’s so pretty, Christy. I love the stripes and the horse too.
Christy says
Thanks, sweet friend! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
The pink is so soft and I love the stripes peeking through. I can see this in a guest bathroom with pale wallpaper and fluffy towels. Very nicely done!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Oh yes…that would be a great place for it as well! XOXO
Alicia Kitchenman says
Thank you for this makeover. I have this exact nightstand, though I may have overpaid at $10 lol!, and wasn’t sure how to handle the top. Now that I know I can sand it, back on the project list it goes!
Christy says
Oh perfect! Glad I could help ha ha! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Christy, this is so sweet! Love the pink, stripes, knob and paper inside. I admit, I did not see the soft pink coming and it looks great. Way to go! The horse is so fun! Love how you made it a new tail.
Christy says
Thanks, Christina! I don’t think I saw the pink coming either when I bought it! XOXO
Denise Cox says
I love the wallpaper you used as drawer liner!! It goes so well. And who would have thought that horse had such an ‘ unfortunate’ prior life… 🤣😝! You did a great job on him and what an ingenious idea for the tail!! It really is amazing what a little bit of paint and know how can achieve!!
Christy says
Thanks, Denise! I found a couple of rolls of that paper at the thrift store years ago. It makes for great drawer liner! That poor horse…I can’t believe I didn’t even realize it was missing a tail lol! XOXO
Janice Holt says
What a sweet table. Yes, it has to go in some little girl’s room. Love it.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! Yes, for sure! XOXO
Gail says
Table is nice but it was the rocking horse that caught my eye! I did something similar with crackle paint years ago. I love yours!
Christy says
Thank you, Gail! This would have been great crackled! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy, this is just an adorable little table. I just painted a tray white with Soft Pink stripes, thanks to your creativity. I think decopauged a cute napkin with a pink rose in the middle. I wish i could send you a picture. My booth is at a standstill right now so i’m trying to makeover some smalls. I have several of those silverware boxes that are really cute but i dread the inside of them. Any helpful hints? Please let me know if there is a way i can start sending you pictures. The first makeover i copied you on is a white little table with a black drawer. I haven’t put that in my booth yet because i kind of want to keep it. the table is very well made. Thank you for all your inspirations and ideas. Don’t know what i would do without you. Cant wait to see what you are doing with your page!!
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl!! My booth is slow at the moment also. The colder weather usually brings people in here though. As for removing the insides of those flatware boxes, they require some muscle for sure. I use my needle-nosed pliers to help me grip the insides and pull like crazy! If you want to share photos, I’d love to see! You can email them to me at christykjames@cox.net. I’m so thrilled that I can offer you some creative inspiration!! XOXO

I was NOT expecting pink, but I love pink, so therefore I adore this piece!! And the little horsie. They’d both have a home at my house lol.
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon!! Ha ha! XOXO

Please google” Bali Hai / Henry link” on Etsy-you will find many examples of this style of furniture selling at hefty prices….(i myself have two of these night tables) this is hardly a trashy piece of furniture and there are many fans out there. Once you become aware of it you will start to find more and more pieces-enjoyed your makeover…thanks.
Christy says
Thank you for the info! I hadn’t seen anything like this before! XO
Marie says

gwen says
such sweet, muted colors Christy! and i love the drawer pull too.
i’ve admired that staging horse before and never even noticed the tail! i assumed it was a heavy metal, but it’s wood? i love it regardless!
Christy says
Thank you, Gwen! Yep…wood lol! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
So sweet!!! Love it…and no, wasn’t expecting pink!! lol xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy!! I didn’t imagine it would end up punk when I bought it either lol! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
I like it as it is not a loud. screaming pink. I would have chosen a pale blue or turquoise, but that is because thy are my fave colors. The rocking horse is cute.
Christy says
Thanks, Rose! The blues are always my favorite too! XOXO
Lizzy Leff says
That color — LOVE! I’m always looking for the “right” pinks. Great job!
Christy says
I’m so head you like it, Lizzy! Thank you! This is a great pink. XOXO
Becky says
Very pretty! That’s a shade of pink that doesn’t make me smell cotton candy – what a relief – haha!
Christy says
Oh funny!! I know what you mean…I did my boys’ old changing table in a darker pink several years ago and I did not love it! XOXO
KATHY BINKLEY says
Christy that turned out really cute. You know some little girl would enjoy that cute little table. I really like how you go that extra mile and line the drawers. Oh and the little horsey….everytime I see that, I think that is so cute. We are horse people and everytime I see you using it for a prop , I just keep looking at, thinking it is so cute. Love it painted.
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! I loved that horse when I found it, but I can’t believe I didn’t realize he was missing his tail ha ha! XOXO
Mariele says
Tiki-licious! The after is adorable for a kid’s room. 🙂 Ooh, I love your blog theme as it is now, but I’m very excited to see the new one!

Hi Christy, Wow what a price on that find! I love the sweet, soft pink color, it is perfect for a little girls room. I love the knob you used on this dresser too. I’m looking forward to you need page design.
Christy says
I’m so glad you like it, Kaycee, thank you! It was a fantastic deal for sure. I’m looking forward to a new blog design as well. It’s been a long time coming! XOXO
Ruth Anne says
Your table is so sweet! Pink becomes it! My husband and I are in Virginia Beach this week and made a trip to Virginia Beach Antique Mall. We enjoyed seeing your space and all your very pretty furniture and smaller pieces. Some of them I recall seeing in your blog–so fun to see them in real life! I bought one of your Dixie Belle Sponge Applicators and am looking forward to using it on a couple of tables I have to paint and get ready for my space in Lucketts, VA. We enjoyed strolling through the antique mall and had a nice conversation with the owner. Here’s hoping sales pick up for all of us in the business!
Christy says
Thank you, Ruth Anne! I was in my booth this morning! I had just sold the dresser with the fabric drawers I did last month, so I had to shift some things around to fill it in some. I’m so sorry I missed you, but I’m so glad you decided to stop by! There are so many treasures hidden in that place. I always take a peek around whenever I stop in. The owner is very nice! Yes hoping we can make a bit of money for the holidays! XOXO
Jen @ Girl in the Garage says
What a sweet little pink table, Christy! And the horse is just darling – the tail was a genius idea! Can’t wait to see your new blog theme!!
Christy says
Thank you, Jen! I am so ready for a new blog design…so overdue! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Oh, yeah, $6.25 is a steal for this table! It looks like my childhood Thomasville bedroom set, although mine was white with green stripes on the “bamboo” and there wasn’t any fretwork on the bottom. The hard plastic laminate top was great for a kid’s room, as you can imagine. The rest is wood, except the “bamboo” is plastic. Love the new look and I’m guessing it’s going to sell quickly.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! I bet it was awesome in mint green! Yes, I realized the body is wood, but the bamboo parts are not…it is a really cool style! XOXO
Denise - Salvaged Inspirations says
Super sweet table… wasn’t expecting the pink and I love it! XO
Christy says
Thanks, Denise!! I wasn’t expecting pink either ha ha! XOXO
