Amazing friends, today’s the day! I had two pieces left in my last haul, and I’m keeping one of them as-is to possibly use in my staircase gallery wall. That means today’s the day I’m sharing my final piece of this haul woohoo! It seemed like this was such a large pile at the start, didn’t it?
It’s also Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday, so my talented friends are sharing makeovers of their own as well. Be sure to look for their projects at the bottom!
Before we get to today’s makeover, I have some exciting news!!
I am officially a Dixie Belle Paint retailer!! I am now carrying their products in my booth! I absolutely love their products so I am just thrilled to have this opportunity. Hopefully, that will mean new colors and new products to try and share!
Here’s a peek of my booth with my new products on display:
That’s a lot of product on that shelving unit, but it worked out nicely for now. I need to find something that will be a bit easier to shop. If you’re local, I hope you’ll consider purchasing your products from me! My booth is located in The Virginia Beach Antique Mall here in Virginia Beach. I’m currently working on my Etsy shop so I can sell online as well to those of you that aren’t local, so be on the lookout for that coming soon. UPDATE: It’s up and open for business! Visit my shop HERE and enjoy free shipping on all orders over $50 using the code FREESHIP50. ($8 Flat rate shipping on all orders less than $50!)
Okay, let’s see what y’all came here for today…
I found this mirror at the same estate sale where I found that shelving unit above, this desk, and this fretwork cabinet. Everything was half price, so this was a steal at $5!
I started by removing the mirror. The backing came off easily using my metal putty knife to pry it off, but then there were these things that I see often in older mirrors:
I used my large putty knife to pry these off also. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Then I was able to remove the mirror and paint the frame. I was planning to spray paint the frame brown as a base, but it was raining and I only spray paint outside in the open air since it’s so stinky. Instead, I used an old jar of brown I’ve had in my stash for forever and just painted it on with a brush:
That way when I sand later, I’ll see brown through the paint instead of the yellow.
Once it was dry, I followed it up with two coats of Dixie Belle’s Haint Blue:
I know this isn’t much of a stretch for me colorwise since in these photos it probably resembles Sunken Pool, but this is much more of a sky blue than an aqua tone. I just love it! It’s the perfect blue for a nursery!
I also flipped it over and painted the back and the groove that the mirror sits in so it would reflect blue in the reflection rather than the yellow. (And that’s the whole purpose for removing the mirror!)
To add a little something to the top, I went with my favorite… stripes! I added them using my tried and true FrogTape:
I removed the tape as soon as I applied the second coat of paint. As soon as it was dry, I sanded lightly with 220 grit sandpaper and sealed with Dixie Belle’s Best Dang Wax in clear.
I used my Logan Point Driver to secure the mirror back into the frame once I was done.
I was able to reuse the original backing, and I secured that using my staple gun.
Let’s see how it turned out, shall we?
Voila:
Goodbye Harvest Gold! Hello, coastal cutie!
I love the coastal feel of this mirror now, but it could be cute in a nursery too, right?
Remember this little box?
It was one of two drawers that I cut down for my Spring arrangements that I shared HERE.
This glass dome holds just a sampling of the many shells that my Dad collected when we lived in Australia when I was a child:
I treasure them!
The white I used is my beloved Bit of Sugar made into DIY chalk paint. (Recipe HERE.)
Did you know that Dixie Belle Fluff was the inspiration for my finding Bit of Sugar? I used Fluff on this sad drum table I shared a couple of years ago, and rather than being a stark white, I loved the more vintage feel it had.
Here you can see where I gave the edges a very light sanding to reveal a bit of the brown beneath…
Now I get to start a new pile of goodies!!

Don’t forget my friends are sharing makeovers today as well!
For those that are curious, our yard sale was a huge success this weekend! It was such a relief because right up until the night before, rain was expected in the morning hours. Miraculously when I checked at dawn on Saturday, it said no rain until the afternoon hours! What a blessing! I took a few photos that I’ll share on Thursday.
I’ll also be back with my favorite thrifting buddy, Nancy from Artsy Chicks Rule, sharing our newest Thriftshop Shakedown Video!
Here is what I found to make over on the day we filmed:
It is gorgeous as is, but you know I can’t leave well enough alone!
UPDATE: Check out our yard sale pics and what I did with this pretty chair HERE now!
See y’all then!
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!
Mary Kaiser says
You did it!! I am so proud of you for working through all of your stash, it was so fun watching you get through all of it. Looking forward to your new shake down video, those are so fun to watch. That chair is beautiful and I know it will be even more beautiful when your done with it!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Mary! This haul seemed so big when I started haha! See ya Thursday! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you, Petra! Those shells will always have a special place! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Congratulations Christy! I am so happy for you being a Dixie Bell retailer. 🙂 It is a natural fit considering how much you like and use their products.
The mirror is another winner. Love the look with the stripes. I’m sure it will sell quickly in your booth.
So glad the yard sale went well and the weather was good. Yay!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with that chair as well as your newest video with Nancy.
Have a wonderfully creative week!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I always appreciate your encouragement and kind words! XOXO

Thanks and best wishes on your new Etsy shop
Tammy
Christy says
Oh ha ha you are so funny! Thank you! I will probably just be selling Dixie Belle Products onlinne since I can sell my redos in my booth, however, if you ever see anything on the small side that you wish to purchase, I am always happy to try to make that possible! XOXO
Ann Williams says
I can’t wait to be able to buy your paint products. We have none here in Front Royal, Va. I’ll need to order them from your Etsy shop!!! Can’t wait????????
Christy says
Oh yay! I can’t wait to get everything up and running!! XOXO
Melanie Brooks says
Ann- in the meantime there’s a basic retailer in Culpeper if you need something quick.
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy!!! I am ecstatic that you are now a Dixie Belle retailer. I love love love my Dixie Belle paint and was and wash and mud and…well you can just go on and on with everything they have. I don’t have Haint Blue but that one and Blueberry are my next ones to buy. I have seen a piece (Denise-Salvaged Inspirations) painted that looks like faded denim. This mirror is so cute and I’m going to try painting stripes. Wish me luck! Oh yea, what is a point driver? I clicked on the link but i still cant figure out what it does really. So happy for you and i look forward to you blog every Tuesday and Thursday.
Your loyal fan,
Cheryl
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl!! I love their products too and I think they will be a perfect fit!! I just love everything Denise does…I don’t think I’ve seen her denim piece, but I’m sure it’s lovely! Good luck with the stripes… you can totally do them. The point driver is kind of like a staple gun, but instead of shooting staples, it shoots “points”, and instead of them shooting straight down like a staple gun, they shoot out sideways if that makes sense. They are the silver things you saw holding the mirror in place. They’re pointy on one end and the pint driver drives them into the frame and they hold pictures, mirrors, chalkboards, etc in place in a frame. Thank you for all your encoragement…it is so appreciated! XOXO
Deborah says
I like the blue, but I think the stripes detract from the simple lines of the mirror.
Christy says
Thank you for your thoughts, Deborah…always appreciated! XO
Becky says
How pretty! I love the mirror!
Ooo, Dixie Belle! My son and I LOVE their paint, the packaging though… It’s quite a chore to get the lids off and on after that first use! Maybe we should call it a free exercise program and not complain though? ????
Christy says
Yay!! I love them too and I’m so excited to be partnering with them!! And ha ha…very true! I’ve found that it does help if you lay a piece of saran wrap over the container before securing the lid. 🙂 XOXO
Denise Zdziennicki says
Love this 70’s mirror makeover. The color, styling…everything is so gorgeous. And congrats on becoming a DB retailer..woohooo! 😀 Also, so glad the weather held out and your yard sale was a success! XO
Christy says
Thank you, Denise!! I am super excited about selling DB products! And yes, what a blessing it was to make it through our yard sale rain-free! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Christy, you pulled another rabbit out of the hat! I wondered what you would do with that ugly yellow mirror and I am not surprised to see it turn into a lovely piece to use in many different places. I would love it in an entry-room to a beach house (just dreaming!). Congratulations on adding DB paints! I wish you well.
Christy says
Ha ha thank you so much, Cecilia! Oh yes…a dreamy beach cottage…that’s my dream too lol!! XOXO
Sandi Wagner says
Do you ever get tired of hearing how much I love your projects? LOL! The dome with the shells is precious! What a great idea! And I love the mirror…I have one from my grandmother and love it, but just wasn’t digging the cherry wood, etc. Now…I know so many things I can do with it! You are awesome!!!
Christy says
Aww you are the sweetest, Sandi! Thank you so much! Yes paint is so awesome like that…you can turn your Grandmother’s mirror into a piece you love again! XOXO
Sue Cox says
I always love your makeovers, but the mirror today is one of my favorites!
Christy says
Aww yay! Thank you, Sue!! XOXO
Jo Ann Tobias says
So glad to hear your sale was a success! We had beautiful weather on Saturday but it rained all day on Sunday. Thank you for sharing your projects and creativity on your blog. I am curious to know which part of the process is your favorite, if any? The thrift shop treasure hunt? The makeover process? Or the final result?
Christy says
Thank you, Jo Ann! It’s always a relief when it’s over! I love your question…the hunt is really fun of course, but my favorite is definitely seeing the end result. I enjoy the staging for photos process as well. The in-between… not so much haha! XOXO
Wendy Mays says
I absolutely LOVE everything you do. Your style is just my cup of tea. I am a Dixie Belle retailer too. So happy to see you are now a retailer as well. Are you going to the September conference in CA? I hope so. I’d love to meet you in person. I love how you stage your posts. Would love to learn more about how you do it. Your # 1 fan
Wendy
Christy says
Thank you so much, Wendy!! It’s awesome to e-meet a fellow retailer! Hoping I have some success with it all. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending the conference as I have a blogging conference in October and I can’t do that to my Hubby two months in a row lol. I bet it will be so much fun! Maybe next year? As for the staging…that might be my favorite part of it all!! XOXO
Patty says
Hi. I always look forward to Tuesday Trash to Treasure. The first email I open is yours!!! I have a question, hoping you can help answer? My daughter scored a mid century low dresser for under her TV. Unfortunately, it was painted an ugly 80’s brown/tan in a gloss. I LOVE the unique shape of the inset drawer handles. She wants to replace them. I’m want to remove the paint and then spray paint them. They are so unique and mid century! I’m wondering if we need to sand down the paint before using caulk paint? I would love to remove all the paint and restain it. I believe it’s small grain oak. But she wants everything white!! Thank you for the many years of inspiration from you, and your Trash to Treasure friends, you guys are the best!!!
Christy says
Aww that made my day…thank you so much, Patty!! You can absolutely paint right over it, but only if the existing paint job is a decent one without drip marks etc. Any of those types of imperfections will show through the new paint job. Just sand (220 grit) the existing finish if you have anything like that so that you have a smooth finish to paint over. Good luck! XOXO
Donna Bledsoe says
Hi, I do subscribe to get the email and I love the makeovers that you do, but do you ever do anything besides “white”?
Christy says
Thank you, Donna! I find it funny that you are asking me that on a post that shows a blue makeover! You are right in that I share a lot of white though. Honestly, I would paint everything white if I could. However since I am now selling Dixie Belle products, I’m looking forward to trying some new colors! Today’s Haint blue is new! 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
Pretty project and exciting news, Christy! I’ve seen so many people using DB Fluff and it always looks beautiful. Good luck with the new ventures!
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! I appreciate it! XOXO
Brenda Johnson says
The mirror is adorable! I used to live in Suffolk, but we moved to Georgia. I have a son that lives in Chesapeake and I will have to tell my daughter-in-law about your shop! Love Va. Beach and miss it!
Christy says
Thank you, Brenda! I lived in Suffolk for a short time and my Mom lived there for about 10 years or so. Hope you get to come back and visit every once in a while! XOXO
Jackie C says
Congrats on partnering with Dixie Belle Paint.
LOVE this mirror! ????????????????????????????❤️❤️❤️
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jackie!! XOXO
Julie Briones says
Just so lovely, Christy. Love the blue… and love the shape of the mirror, too!
Christy says
Thank you, Julie! The shape is what drew me to it! XOXO
Kaycee says
Hi Christy, I love the new and improved mirror. You are right, it would look adorable in a little boys nursery. Congratulations on becoming a DB paint retailer too!
Christy says
Thanks, Kaycee! I’m super excited about my new venture as a DB retailer! XOXO
Jerri says
Very cute mirror. On average, how long does it take you to remake a bundle of “ finds” ? So many pieces displayed and they’re all made over already. Beautifully made over. How do you decide colors ,pattern and designs to go with?
Christy says
Thank you, Jerri! I started this batch has n March 28th, so it took me a month and a half. I shared two a week. I usually have an idea for a piece when I find it, but sometimes I don’t. I just stare it down until inspiration strikes lol. Often though they evolve as I’m working on them…so sometimes I just start painting and the rest falls into place. XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
I love that you have those shells! How special is that?? And love your mirror makeover…you always do stripes so well!! Can’t wait for Thursday! 🙂 xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, beautiful friend! I treasure those shells for sure…I have a bunch more of them. None of my brothers or sisters wanted any of them which is fine by me! Looking forward to Thursday too!! XOXO
Alison H says
Ok I saw the potential in the mirror unlike the gold box, so I wouldn’t have had any inclination toward hurling it in a bonfire, I swear haha >;)….Aaand it turned out beautiful!!! I looove ❤️ the stripes, that imo is what makes the piece! It adds a sweet whimsical touch. If I had that mirror I would want to have a pastel vintage carnival theme around it. Love!!! Awesome job!!! ????
Christy says
You are so funny!! I’m so glad you like this one…thank you!! Love the vintage carnival idea! XOXO
Melanie Brooks says
Christy-
Great job on the mirror! And congrats on being a DB retailer! I think your display looks very easy to shop, snd you have about 5 times ghe product that my local retailer in Culpeper has!
Christy says
Thank you, Melanie! I appreciate the kind feedback. I’m hoping to keep it well-stocked! XOXO
Jen @ Girl in the Garage says
I love the sassy new stripes, Christy! And congrats on your new gig as a paint retailer! xo
Christy says
Thank you, Jen!! XOXO
